Well they put themselfs on the spot by calling it an MMO though, either deliver on proper MMO mechanics or change the name and face people asking for refunds.
Actually, they called it an MMO after people told them it was misleading to NOT call it an MMO because everyone shared the same galaxy. Besides, what's the point in making the exact same game over and over with a new coat of paint? I enjoy the fact I am not some epic hero in the eyes of the universe. Me and my friends are not expected to save anything. We are just normal people living in this universe, no different in the eyes of the game than the NPCs who live there. Infact, because we belong to the Pilot's Federation, we are even seen as LESS than the NPCs in this universe: a player will never be the emperor, a player will never be the President/Shadow-President of the Federation, a player will never be in the governing body of the Alliance. I LIKE THAT.
I feel the experience of the game, that it takes hundreds if not THOUSANDS of players to make a difference in the universe, would be cheapened by things such as player/guild owned stations/factions. There is nothing stopping people who wish to come together in groups larger than wings from creating fan sites and external messaging systems. Most major guilds use them over the internal systems of most games anyways.
We are all technically a part of a "Guild" anyways, its called the Pilot's Federation, our "clan tag" is CMDR. I can only imagine how funny it would look to have the name "CMDR <yolo> Verdinato" show up on a scanner XD
