To my knowledge FDev has not said that using the logoff timer is specifically an exploit, but that other methods - who's names we dare not speak - are exploits. If I'm mistaken on that, then so be it. Personally, regardless of whether or not the log off timer counts as an "exploit" is of little concern to me as there are currently much better, safer, "non-exploity" ways for players to exit combat than relinquishing control of their ship for 15 seconds and hoping everything will be alright on the other end.
Now, whether or not it's intended is irrelevant. I can't play the game FDev intended to make. I won't quibble over whether or not it's a cheap trick; it is. I think I've stated very plainly that it needs to be fixed or altered. FDev has the option of stating plainly that they think it's game breaking/exploiting and that there will be repercussions for those caught doing it. That depends on how serious they believe the issue to be. Until one of those two things happen, all anyone can do is play the game that's been made.

That sounds much more civilized ... but you see those dudes attacked him in the first part of the video 3 vs 1 and they use that strange mechanics that frontier make.
still waiting for a publica statement from fdev that says 'don't do this, it's an exploit' .. cuz that's literally all it will take for the code and any other 'honorobru' pvp clan to stop using it. it really is that simple.
and to the two posters above:
1. we're pirates, not PKers. we only kill for valid piracy rp reasons... also please don't lose sight of the fact that you are playing a game where the penalty for loitering is total obliteration. space pixels were designed to have short lifespans.
2. this isn't going to 'sully our good name', and it never well.. please. nobody from code is ever going to lose a wink of sleep over this one. the opinions of player groups that actually matter to us is doing just fine.
a private message they shared only with you and psecifically forbade you from sharing with the rest of the community?
myea.. that should probably tell you something.
Lord Lucan: your post is not deserving of a response, so you will not be getting one. sorry.
"fair play" lol. this isn't checkers.
and we've been over why this is 'fair play' --- everyone can do it. unless you're going to pull up the tired old 'it is unfair to solo pilots!' in which case you might as well try to convince me that 'teamworks' is OP and an exploit too.
I do have a video on youtube showing the message from the moderators, for when I posted this before and they deleted the post with the reasons: don't post exploits or how to do them
-
I think that's a pretty good statement and clear to me they are saying it's an exploit

Everything is there from my original post to the moderators PM telling me not to post exploits
Nah, I doubt it'll result in sanctions. And you do have some valid points. But I see no reason to use it if you care about being a better player.
I also doubt it will come to sanctions. For one, that's usually an option of last resort in online games. Especially in circumstances where undesired behavior can result from normal operation unbeknownst to the player. Second, it's better to fix something that's ostensibly broken than it is to tell the user how to work around it, at least whenever possible.
"Better" is entirely subjective in an open-world, sandbox style game such as E. There will always be a better PvP'er than me, a better pirate than me, a better explorer, trader, racer, etc. There are few quantitative metrics to see who does what better that who. No kill:death ratio. No way to track how many interdictions won, or cargo scooped. No official finish line. I do not imply that there should be these sorts of things, either. The criteria for what makes one 'better' at the game is entirely in flux and entirely within the control of the person playing. It's what makes things vibrant and interesting, from piracy to Buckyball Run. Conflict can arise when Player A's definition of 'better' doesn't coincide with Player B's, of course, and forum drama can ensue, but I think it's a worthwhile trade.
As others have pointed out: we cannot play the game FD 'intended to give us' -- we can only play the game they have actually given us.
Some people can and do actually try to play the game as intended. That doesn't mean they're stupid and the drive to do so doesn't merit being mocked.
I haven't called anybody stupid, or mocked them. I have however been accused of being a) a cheater, b) an exploiter .. with zero supporting evidence except some hearsay about 'a developer told me it was an exploit in a message they won't let me show you'....
