It is pretty annoying especially in a RES area when the better targets show up then bang 200cr fine and you have to high tail it out of there.

Really FF incurred while locked on the a bad guy shouldn't give you a fine..

Just happened to me. Disappointing as it was a real player who ignored my greetings and then insisted on flying between me and the target. tried to run but not quick enough.
All part of the learning curve.

When paying off bounties, if your smuggler skillz aren't very polished then it can also be worth it to go pay at an outpost, even if out of your way, rather than risk the security forces at a station.

I'm not sure if this was mentioned, but @OP you don't have to get the last hit in in order to get the bounty. All you really need is to get a couple hits in occasionally, and let the local security squad do the rest.

Just land at an outpost instead of a station, they don't shoot at you and you can pay your fine there.
Trouble is, pretty soo (with the next update) you won't be allowed to pay your bounties for a few days -- so you will have to leave that system and go find one where you are not wanted. I think it's madness.

It has happened a few times now that while searching for bounties I'v accidentally incurred a minor violation for friendly fire. Where upon the security forces at once go into all out kill mode and blast me to bits.

I find it both extremely annoying and unrealistic that security forces kill people on sight for fines that are nothing more than pocket change.

I'v even been intercepted and killed by security forces while trying to get to a station to pay off the fine.

It's the way the game does it, it's not meant to be realistic I don't think. ;) And the system authority ships will intercept and kill you if you are wanted, you'll probably even get interdicted by them from SC.

As others have said, being aware of what's going on around you is considered (by FD) to be an important skill / ability in combat, and if you've had this happen a few times, then you may just have to hone your combat skills a bit. ;) Bear in mind that friendly fire might not be seen as a minor violation by the ship you hit, and there is even an allowance for friendly fire under certain circumstances, so you are probably being forgiven for some 'accidents' already. :)

I have done this a couple of times in RES when the blood lust sets in. I immediately boost out then get to the nearest station to clear the fine. Im not risking losing bounties for the low fines. Trigger discipline seems to be the key

Same thing, different day.

Pulse lasers can sometimes sporadically fire themselves when they overheat and can hit friendlies, ok that may fall under discipline but it's easily done in battle when you need to keep the pressure up. Also, I've encountered a bug where you get a bounty on your head for firing on wanted targets and I've had to flee from RES zones.

It would be acceptable if it was just a fine (as it should be, IMHO) - but it's a bounty.
I believe with the coming changes to the crime system that friendly fire will be turned into a fine and killing a non-wanted target will turn into a large bounty that can't be cleared for a few days. Either that, or there are going to be a lot of wanted 200 Cr multi-day criminals out there.

Sounds like you need to work on some things, OP.

Trigger discipline is the big one. There are so many indicators as to where ships are around you.
Your scanner is probably the most obvious of them but there are other things to look out for such as: the sounds other ships make when they're close to you, the direction approaching ships fire is coming from, as well as your good old fashion visual implants v1.0 (eyes).

It'll get better with practice. If you suspect another ship is going to fly through your field of fire, hold off on the trigger for a second to see where they're going.

As for being blasted trying to dock with a bounty on your head, that too comes with practice.

There's a few ways you can go about that. The easiest is probably just to manually shut down all systems except for sensors and thrusters at around the distance you can request docking. Keep an eye out for circling patrol ships near the docking slot and fly as fast as you can through the slot. There's a lot of ways to sneak in, just look on YouTube for ideas. Or you could skip big stations all together. Since you can pay a bounty off from anywhere in the galaxy, why not try an outpost or a station owned by a faction that doesn't have you on their KOS list? It doesn't even have to be in the same system as the faction that initially tagged you as wanted.

Just my 2c.

Practice, practice, practice, my friend. It'll get easier.

Or it's just broken.

Never go to a station to pay off a bounty (that's what they killed you for, they don't attack for fines) unless you have absolutely no choice. Go to an outpost instead. The chances of finding system security at an outpost are less than at a station. However, if you're in a ship that requires you to land at a large pad, you're hosed and will just have to be sneaky.
