The bounties are issued by the minor factions so you can accrue multi-million credit bounties across multiple minor factions.

But who want to travel between 50 systems to pick up 50 mil in bounties? The amount of time it would take to claim all the bounties would not be worth the total amount for bounty hunters...

Let alone, you just gave free reign to the Player Killers that just go to systems like Eravate and kill new players for the fun of it. Now they cant get a bounty over 1 mil in that system... Thats not even worth going to try to kill them for that... Add in the time factors, repair cost, and fuel cost and you have nothing now.
 
Well I am really pleased you guys are doing something about this issue but I have a feeling that a lot more people than 64 have exploited this over the last few months and have a garage of kitted out expensive ships and a sizeable bank balance they wouldn't have otherwise had.

As I said earlier, if it were my decision I'd put the offenders back in a sidey with 100cr ;)

Yep, I hope you write a database report script to investigate the rate of acquisition of every >1MCr bounty for multiple contraband scan abuse and game mode used, and the players who claimed the bounty.

Bounty claimed higher than 1MCr? Flag.


Earned the bounty faster than some threshold? Flag again.

Earned the bounty in solo or private, bounty claimed in private by a new group member? Flag again.

Bounty claimant had low assets at the time of the kill? Flag again.

Some accounts are going to have more flags than the UN.

Does that mean that Alliance, Federation and Empire are still uncapped?

If that's the case, then that's a huge relief.

If not, that's a complete deal-breaker for bounty hunters, and specially for mixed-profession hunters (like me, a BH/Explorer). Anyone who hunted while using an KW Scanner would EASILY cap the other two factions while hunting in a specific factor's sector. And that would also mean that these hunters would need to be constantly on the run, because once you cap 1mil the other factions, you have to change your current sector and unload the bounty on the other two factions. That's a HUGE waste of time, considering most bounty hunters don't have a jump range greater than 17Ly, and the distance between those 3 big factions can be easily greater than 200~300Ly, which is a lot of jumps just for unloading 1million (which by the point you get a Vulture or bigger ship, is spare change).

I short, that means you can't settle in a territory and hunt on your surroundings (like I do in Alioth). Now you have to be constantly on the move, and the more advanced you are, the more money you are wasting just on travel for unloading side-bounty.

....That is, if that is applying to Ally / Fed / Emp. If not, disconsider, move along.

Yes. This is to stop a cargo scanning fines that become bounties. It applies only to player bounty values, not collected bounties.

I could be wrong here, and some clarification from Devs would be welcome, but I beleive if you get fined in a Fed system, it's the controlling Fed minor faction that fines you, but it becomes a Fed fine because they are aligned to the Feds.

Fed, Imperial and Alliance minor factions will be capped at 1mil as well, but each of the major factons have many minor factions so the max bounty for the major factions won't be capped to 1mil.

they've rarefied these bounties making them even more valuable. it's so absurd. why just minor factions? they've emboldened the bounty sellers with this move. so stupid.
 
I believe the new behavior is that a player's accrued bounty against a single minor faction is now capped at one million. Bounty claims in favor of that faction appear (at least to me) to be without a cap. I would definitely agree that the change today was worded a little bit oddly so as to create a little confusion, but this is also because "bounty" in E:D terminology refers to both being wanted, as well as bounty vouchers.

With regard to earning bounty vouchers, there appears to still be no hard cap. I tested earlier today and was able to accumulate more than a one million CR claim in a single faction.

More valuable? They are much harder to grow now. Current ones might be exclusives, but I hardly think they will stay that way (as they are very easily to identify, there's only 56 players with more than 1M bounty - easy list to check against cheating). Mostly you won't be easily rack up massive bounty. There's no miracle solution to this, they will do this step by step, not knee jerking along the way.
 
If you read the last portion of first post it says upon kill bounty will show the large amount but will be corrected when you turn in bounties . How mad will someone be if they pay for the large bounty with real cash and it gets corrected when they cash in .

every step in the direction of squashing exploiters is a step in the right direction. Might not be the final step, but there never really is a final step.

64 players with over a million bounty as of this morning. I wonder how many players have unrealistic bounty credit to bounty kill ratios? It shouldn't be hard for FD to spot users who are well outside of the bell curve and put them under review.

Whatever the case, I hope the banning (if it ever happens for any kind of cheating, not just this particular exploit) is a ban completely from the game. Banning to solo for cheating is not enough.
