What's the dumbest way you've destroyed your ship?

Just totalled my type 9, costing me 5 mil. Dodging another NPC type 9 in the letterbox. Hit boost instead of track left (Q on my keyboard) boost is tab. I got so off, I went and sold the lot and bought my Python back.

Since the release of Elite: Dangerous, my World of Tanks clan had missed me loads, although I did still log onto their TS server and played ED with a few clan members too. Only logging into WoT to play Clan Wars and then jump straight back onto ED with clanmates.
Then the release of Grand Theft Auto 5 on the PC happened and I abandoned playing Elite to the point that I could barely recall what my front door looked like.
So just before this evenings outing in CW in WoT a clan member PM'd me to ask for some help in ED to which I complied.
ED loads up (I had no idea where I was in the galaxy) and it turned out that I was at Orrere and he was at Leesti. So over TS I say "I'll come to you" I hit launch and fly straight into the side of the space station. All I hear over TS is "Hahahahahahahaha and to think I asked you for help!" 1 mil rebuy later and a very cautious exit later and we team up. Not my proudest moment in my Vulture for sure!

Druantia.

Thought I'd mastered this manoeuvre - toggling flight assist to drift round and line up with the docking slot.

https://youtu.be/tc0zO-3eoyA?t=16s

I don't have a recording of the incident itself, but I was getting cocky, flung the nose up so I was drifting at 90 degrees to my flight path, waiting for the rim of the docking circle to whizz past so I could toggle FA off - and KABOOM! I'd misjudged it and slammed underside-first into the side of the docking ring.

Yep - done this myself. This time I was showing off and trying to get my ship to go in to the letter box backwards. It went badly. Very badly!

Bringing in my Type 6 at Perez, dog decides to see what's so interesting on the screen, and jumps in my lap. All 85lbs of him, slaps his paw on the keyboard, managing to hit the boost key, and knocks my stick sideways, sending me into a awesome-looking tail-out power drift-spiral into the station. Wrecked my ship and 72 units of Palladium. Wish I'd recorded it. He was thouroughly bad-dogged.

He has mastered that "I sowwy" look.

"I have my Cobra's shields fully charged and that 'conda has 10% armor left... RAMMING SPEED!" *boost* *both dead* "Well dang..."

Playing too late, I zoned a bit while approaching a station. I woke up to the trespass warning at the mailslot. Startled, I hit the boost button instead of reverse. Splatted my Python and a full load of gold at the far end of the station. About 7.5 mil. As the old tombstone reads "Here lies the body of Jonathan Blake - who stepped on the gas instead of the brake".

Now I use a docking computer with doing those late night trading runs.

I had just upgraded to an Adder... It was my first upgrade from my Sidey... I had a full bay of the most expensive ware I could buy and was heading out to sell it. Got excited, thought I was awesome, hit boost... and... smack. Right into the bottom lip of the slot. Awesome. At least I got a second chance to enjoy the Sidey!

Dumbest?
Probably deciding I could fly well enough to attempt a high speed landing with flight assist off ...despite never having even attempted it at low speed.

...can't even say I hit the wrong button or didn't see object X ...I apparently just had a death wish that day.
Luckily I always fly with a good insurance buffer so I didn't permanently lose my $10million ASP.

Mine was probably about an hour and a half ago:

Just finished some work, and decided I'd at least attempt playing some Elite before turning in for the night. Granted, I would likely have a 45 minute session as a result, and as such I figured there would be no point in getting my flight stick set up. Thought I'd take the chance to try flying with just keyboard and mouse in the combat training, but apparently I don't have that installed, so I figured a simple trade run would be good enough practice just to see what it's like.

Load into the game, fill my Cobra with 32 tons of tea at Noatiaca, intent on taking it to Pienate for a minimal profit. Launch from the docking pad and try lifting off, only to end up with no shields, as well as knocked off the landing pad from trying to find out what key it is to get the ship moving. A few seconds, and keystrokes, later, I deploy my hard points, end up firing my pulse lasers, and am immediately turned to space dust by the station.

Faceplanted my ship into an asteroid about 4 seconds after receiving notification of my biggest bounty ever 288,000cr

As I was going "Yay!!" The ship kind of went "crash/crumple..Boom!"
i did exactly that myself, but didn't die - i was left with 1% hull - VERY carefully exited the RES and went home to repair

dying in dumb ways? 'pausing' the game to make coffee. i could be forgiven for doing it once, but i did it twice.

When I was new to the game, I managed to get a bounty or something on my head--I think I fired inside the no fire zone near a station-- TBH I'm not sure..at any rate, when I was near the station the cops suddenly shot me out of the sky

Also, not long afterwords I stupidly canceled landing permission while I was inside a station and didn't leave in time---once again they blew my ship to bits LOLOL

Standing in front of the station slot with permission to land WHILE searching the gear down button. BOOOOM! 3,6 Mio. Credits lost as well.

Flew my fully loaded, with 400 tons of cargo Anaconda, into a space station while turning to the hyperspace jump position, which was behind the letterbox.........................bang, 12million credit lose!
I was insured though, but seriously annoyed at my own stupidity for not concentrating!
