I feel for you, and while what happened is unfair, the actual justice system in the USA is routinely a lot more unfair (up to and including executing innocent people), so I'm inclined to feel that there is something gritty to be said for the universe not caring when innocents get caught up in the machinery - the innocent party has to be on the ball and really scramble desperately to get out from under the cascade of increasing disaster that can rapidly snowball.
It's frustrating to have to deal with stuff that should never have happened, and it detracts from the moment, but I'm not sure it detracts from the game experience in the longer term. I've had some FF incidents trash my plans, cost me plenty, force me into snap judgement, search for an outpost to avoid security, avoid rep damage etc. I hated it at the time, but now that it's in the past, my time as a renegade, a fugitive from the law over a crime I didn't commit - it's a legitimate tale of adventure. It's part of the richness of the tapestry. In your case you even have the ill-fated moment (that touched off your escapade) on video
The machineries of "justice" don't care who gets caught up in its gears, the wheels grind on, unstoppable. It's on us - the little people - to save ourselves with our wits and cunning, because just like the real world, merely being innocent of wrongdoing
isn't enough.
