AFK Capital ship camping for free money

Some people "abused" the game mechanic and other people, who were to late, became "jealous" and bedrugded their easy efforts.

FDev took the easy way: "you don't want him to occupy the parking space in front of your house, so we make the entire street a no-parking zone."

That's the story behind this. FDev took care of those who demanded more "fairplay" and made capship-combat-zones useless, as they did with the "seeking luxuries" traders. Some people didn't want other ones to make easy money. Other people (in other ships) didn't want a fast and nimble Python, ... But they are listening to us, the community - see it that way:)

They changed the rules even earlier to prevent NPC kill-stealing from being too common, so people started AFK turret-tagging ships in solo and racking up the bonds and kills. Then they changed the rule for cap ships to stop that, and now people are complaining that they are being gazumped by cap ships. Why the devs can't just give the credit/credits to the entity that dealt the most damage to a ship (not to it's shields) I don't know.

I'm glad they fixed it, although not sure about the way they fixed it, even thought it was an inefficient use of time and it's effect was over-stated

in anycase, I hope they'll come up with something a little less.. clunky. Having the cap ship open fire on any friendly within a small radius would be better, after all you're just a ship who decided on a whim to join their side. You could be a suicide bomber in disguise.

The ideal would be to prevent cap ship camping but not make fighting for the side of the cap ship less attractive than trying to fight against it.

First time poster and first time seeing a capitol ship tonight. Was in a wing of 4 and all of us seeing the ship for the first time doing the community event , After spending a few hour in low intensity , we decided to try high. On arrival the capitol ship arrived much to our delight. Much fun and awe was had until we all realized none of us were getting paid for any of our kills. And its too bad that frontier decided that a couple AFK people was reason enough to ruin the experience for the real players who want to enjoy the experience. After seeing this " fix" i wont be back to any high intensity zones for fear of seeing a kill stealing capilot ship. Too bad, what a waste of resources to pay employees to model and build such an experience and then ruin it by patching out its usefulness. Dumb. I just made an account on the forums here, just to come in and post how i am about htem ruining this experience for new players. Idiots.

Earning bonds near a Capital Ship?

I've just entered the fray at Volungo - jumped into the High Intensity Zone - chose the Federal faction.

In jumps a Capital ship. Awesome - now I can earn some credits I think. I'm in a Python with twin gimballed C3 beams and a large gimballed Cannon.

I see an Elite Eagle and open up on - it is dead in seconds. But no bond. Hmm.

I see a an Elite Python - it takes me a little while to get it's hull to 0% - it explodes. No combat bond.

I see another - same result. Finally - after about 10 minutes, just as I've decided it must be a bug, I catch another Eagle - 4000 credits. That took me 10 mins. I could have earned 300K in a decent RES.

This isn't necessarily a whine - but I'd like to know how others are earning credits now around the Capital Ship - what is the trick?

Personally - I prefer the old system. I know some people where going AFK - and farming a lot of money, but frankly, I think that was their business to cheapen their experience. I preferred the chance to earn great money once in a while - and enjoy the awesomeness of zooming around the Capital ship at the same time.

Now I feel like I am being punished for being near the Capital ship.

Or am I just missing something simple? Please help.

Agreed 100% - there was an ungodly amount of crying - and the 'fix' has ruined it for me. I never once went AFK - just enjoyed earning decent money and having a great time around the Capital Ship.

Dumbest fix ever. I spent a half hour in capship zone and got zero kills. I like flying around the capship but not anymore. Will never go back until they fix the fix.

after the fix, the game shows you guys what you would have deserved all the time when fighting beside the cap-ship:
NOT MUCH!

you loved to earn money by combat but without ANY risk? now this is gone!?

GREAT FIX!
thanks FD

just saw my first cap ship tonight with 3 other guys who are all new players. We wont be back to a high either. Just signed up to the forums just to post our distaste for this choice. Totally ruined the experience once we realized none of us were getting any reward for going there. Coolest ship in the game ruined the new player experience because someone went AFK next to it? Now its ruined for everyone.

It's still perfectly possible to rack up similar amounts of combat bonds from a CZ with a capital ship compared to one without one - I did just that last night at Volungu - but, I agree, it's more of a challenge. Ignore targets which have already been zeroed in by the cap ship and focus on alternatives. If the cap ship then decides to turn its attention to your target, if it's hull integrity / subsystem is low, just keep on hitting it and you will get credited with the bond at least a percentage of the time. If it's hull integrity / subsystem is still reasonably intact, choose an alternative target.

The Capital Ship is fine, it doesn't need your help. You can go off to another part of the battle and kill enemies there. It's nice that you want to stay so close, flattering almost, but also a little insulting.

Got a question, for the background simulation or the Soon™ to come Powerplay, do the AI killing AI counts toward a faction's influence ? If a player stays in a instance with the capital ship rampaging, will the CS kills count towards its faction's influence ?

I play in a wing of four , each of us brand new. We all responded exactly the same to the capitol ship stealing out bounties. We all have our credit cards to buy items from the cash shop, we all just want to play a video game and have fun and spend money. But if its not entertaining its not entertaining. Regardless of what 10 AFK players may have done in the past. If you want to encourage ruining entertainment , thats fine. But lets be clear on one thing, for the vast majority of players who don't care what others do, your smug attitude is a testament to how we new players couldnt care less how others decide to have fun with a video game. AFK not AFK, i really dont care what others do. I just want to play and have a good time. New players think capitol ships suck. Four players all brand new all had the exact same response too. Moving the ship around was too hard for them to code in? Lets just ruin the ships intended purpose instead? And expecting a proper fix instead of a lazy one isnt demanding too much for an 70$ piece of software. Spoiler alert, you are wrong.

Before the fix, AFK capital ship camping was effectively an exploit - too easy to rack up a huge amount of combat bonds. Now, players have to be actively involved and choose their targets wisely. It's simply wrong to say that all kills are stolen by a cap ship in a CZ. It's more of a challenge, yes, but not impossible. If you don't like the challenge, go to a low intensity CZ. Simples...

My point is that it's perfectly reasonable that you, as one ship, or even a wing of 4, makes an insignificant difference to the battle around a Capital Ship. If you wish to fight in a High Intensity Conflict Zone, AND get kill credits, do it well away from the Capital Ship or just do it in a Low Intensity. Yes, it's a shame that some lazy, min/max exploiters discovered and used a way to exploit a Capital Ship for, essentially, free Credits, but they did and now it's well known. Frontier had to stop the exploit. How would you have fixed that?

I took a friend of mine, who is relatively new to the game, to a High Intensity Conflict Zone to see the cap ship. He was blown away, we watched the battle a bit then went to a Low Intensity to actually make a difference to the war. I can't drag him away from it, he's been back there every day since in his Cobra and is loving it, without a Capital Ship. Also, this is only one tiny aspect of Elite: Dangerous.

Agreed, this fix was lazy pretty much makes cap ships pointless. Caps ships are to be avoided now, is this really what FD wants?

Makes me think of the KSing that used to be a big problem in mmos..except it's not others players but a npc that is doing it.

lol

I'll ask you as well then, how would you have fixed it?

Using various methods that are 100% times better than this like have the person or wings that do the most damage get the kill, mmos have various methods now to stop kill stealing.

Hell maybe even add in a afk timer so peeps get auto logged off or something along those lines.

Point is the fix ruined gameplay for all those that don't afk for something frankly we shouldn't care about and FD clearly shouldn't care about considering in gamma before the game went live they didn't do a wipe even though plenty had exploited themselves to 100 of millions of creds in the name of "testing" and the reason was "who cares how many creds peeps have it doesn't affect you".

It's like trying to stop a leak with your finger after the ship has already sunk.

I'm disappointed Capital ships shoot at you now if you go too close even when not in a conflict zone. I can understand it in a conflict zone but not one peacefully parked orbiting a planet. Maybe it makes sense if you have your weapons deployed or you are shooting at it.

I used to love flying in and around the Capital ship at Achenar and Sol.

Doesn't it only attack if you haven't chosen a side, or if you are on the opposite side?
