Combat zones with cap ships seem like a waste of time?

It does that too now, friendly or foe, with 1Km you get fired on.

Maybe they've tweaked it's behaviour since the last patch. I haven't seen a Cap since the week they made the change.

No it does not do that unless you have not declared a faction. It will let you close if you are on its team
 
Yay for you, lots of eagles I am pretty sure? All the big ships spawn in range of the capital ship and sit right there. Right now the capital ship zones are broken. Keep the mechanic and move the enemy ships away, or change the mechanic please Frontier!

I lost precisely two kills out of about two hundred to the capital ship last week. I have the video to prove it.

Trade-ish Python with five pulse lasers.

I just stayed away from the capital ship and used it as cover when I started to lose control of the situation.

It worked admirably.
 
The vocal minority that were upset that a few people were taking advantage of easy kills have ruined the fun of flying with a cap ship for everybody. So now they are happy and they have nothing to say. I avoid capital ships now, complete waste of time to fly with one as cool as it is. Or was.

I feel the same way. They completely destroyed the fun of fighting with a cap ship. I feel this was a very quick way to fix what a few whiners were complaining about, without thinking of others. I loved zipping around the cap ship, fighting off the baddies. Shame on you fd.
 
Watching Cap ships blow enemy fighter squadrons into oblivion is great fun, far from being pointless! I'd actually say it's much more entertaining than farming credits, a dull and boring necessity if you want to buy expensive ships. But when just measuring excitement and entertainment, cap ships are as good as it gets in ED right now! :)
 
Honestly I have found nothing else worth defending in the way things are in this game. Believe me if I could get a refund or sell my account would be happy to leave it. But the way they had the cap ship before made it exploitable by solo and group and completely unfair to open players. The current method stopped the exploit and helped with balance between modes.

If this is the only thing you can find to defend then we must not be playing the same game.
The current method is broken and doesn't work. Yeah it stopped the exploit, and it also stopped any profit from fighting next to a cap ship. There is nothing balanced about it.

My fun is measured in the amount of credits I get from the CZ. So no, I wouldn't say that a CZ with a cap ship is "as good as it gets in ED right now".

That's quite a sad sentiment, IMHO. Wouldn't you have more "fun" by playing some broker/finance simulation, then?

No. Credits = more upgrades for my ship which is the only real driving goal this game gives me.
1.3 will change all that with Power Play.
 
What I find a shame is that it's all very static in czs, cap ships not moving around, can't be destroyed, nothing really develops during the conflict, they're a gun platform, and that's about it.
