Calling all Federation Commanders - We are at War with the Empire

This is the voice of Mysteron...

So be it... You choose wrath... The Dark Armada is already at work in the system of Volungu, in the service of the unbreakable Empire... All Federation ships beware, destruction awaits you in the velvet void. You will taste the harshness of the vacuum and embrace the warmth of beam laser...

Wonderful, the Imperial Terrorists show up.

I'm starting to realize that there's a lot of blind patriotism going around on both sides of this conflict. Heck, I am blood related to the Faveol line, and even I see no purpose to this madness. My own employees are, as we speak, shooting down Patron's Principles vessels in Volungu in the name of peace.

Answer me this, Empire and Federal zealots alike, what is there to be gained from all this? Why shatter a millennium's long era of peace, and start a massive war, which neither side realistically has a chance of "winning." Sure, Liaeden would fall if all out war was declared. It's surrounded by Federal systems. It would be a slaughter. Then the "border" systems would be embroiled in a massive conflict, with systems being traded by both sides on a daily basis, in a combat that would see no true end until another peace treaty was drafted. The last war was simply a prolonged slap fight, with neither side making much leeway, or making any drastic changes to the already long established territories. What is there to gain? The eradication of a culture? Are we so embedded in humanity's bloody history that we continue to repeat such idiotic and inhuman acts? As a man of business, there is no profit in a war between the Empire and the Federation. As an Imperial, there is no honor in fighting the Federals abroad. Peace must remain my fellows. Else we continue to repeat the idiotic actions of our forefathers going back to the days of prehistoric nomadic hunter gatherers on earth.

Oh god another bunch of fruitbats to add to the large number of fruitbats already intent on shooting at me.

Why not we rename this war to the "lets all attack poor old Bill who wants to do nothing more than trade around Liaedin" war.

Maybe I should buy an ammunition manufacturing facility and sell ammo to both sides... I'd make a killing

Bill

It's surrounded by Federal systems.

This would more or less summarise the issue many Federal Commanders have with Liaedin. It is an Imperial system in the heart of Federation space, without even one Federal station.

I spoke to the Mentat of House Goosington today, and he had this to say on the matter

And does anyone bother to find out why?

Liaeden was given to the Empire, as a symbol of peace nearly 1000 years ago, at the end of the last great war between the Feds and the Imperials. We didn't take it by force, it was given to us as a peace offering. Liaeden was supposed to become a "launch pad," for Imperial trade and diplomacy in Federal Space. However, Liaeden has little strategic placement or trade value overall.

It is the principle of peace that founded Liaeden as an Empire system. Did anyone involved in this madness even bother to educate themselves? Ignorance is no excuse in my book.

Theodore Schneider left Liaedin to both the Faveols and the Blossoms. The Federation and the Empire both had stations. Now the Empire owns the entire system.

That was prior to the last great war. Really now, that's ancient news. You're going to have to look at more recent history than an article published in 2683.

Most people get their information in relation to Liaeden and it's politics from this article. However, it's very much outdated.

More recent articles have this to say:

"For years Liaedin was caught in almost constant civil war as the Faveol and Blossom families fought to gain control of the region. The two sides eventually settled their differences, with the Imperial Faveol family ultimately being given governorship of the system."

More over, if you go into your ship's galaxy map, and search for Liaeden, you'll find this blurb of text:

"Once a disputed system, this populous world became part of the Empire after warming relations between the Empire and Federation. Once known as Delta Aquilae."

Liaeden for many, many years, was at the center of Imperial and Federal aggression. Thanks mostly to the the Faveols and the Blossums. However, the Faveols were given governorship of the system, by the Federals, as a sign of peace.

Ah yes, political agreements evidenced by Cartographic Data. We both know that there are many inaccuracies in the Cartographic data. At this very moment there is a dispute over the public data for 78 Ursae Majoris. The news article itself does not mention what happened to the Federal station and news articles in and of themselves are not evidence. In fact I believe that the current dispute of the 78 Ursae Majoris was actually highlighted by an inaccurate GalNet article.

I have no interest in that corner of the Galaxy.

Also, yes, the press do tend to get their facts out of line.

What is it some people used to say? Every lie has some shred of truth there in? Compile every shred of information you can find, and come to your own conclusions. There are a few other articles related to the history of Liaeden. However, they can be hard to dig up if you lose track of where to find them.

Let us hope, that the conflict ends in Volungu, and doesn't breed more unrest.
