I really like this mystery and everyone searching and working together. I hope there will be more to solve after this one.

Nothing so far.
There are no signal sources, no unspecified POI.

beginning to fear that maybe we are supposed to scan systems on the way to LN station.

Nothing for me so far either. The video could have just been a random place where they chose to film that sequence. Probably has no link at all with any of this but its worth checking just to scratch it off the list (like Soontill was).

I don't think I'll stay long here as I still believe high-traffic npc routes are the best places to look.

I for one will welcome our new insectoid overlords. :D

FFE spoiler again.

In FFE there was a mission to go to PLEIONE to fetch ALIEN ARTEFACTS from a Thargoid wreckage. This was in 3255. 50 years before our current time. Could the wreckage still be there?
Also Thargoids always had the Alien Artefacts apparently.

that's not far from my current location .. i think i can head there and take a look

Just completely checked out California Sector HW-W C1-7. It's unremarkable. Scanned all planets and both stars, nothing special. First discovered by ICOHR and WIGGLER. No unidentified signal sources, no contacts, no mysterious unknown targets in the system (that I can spot), nothing.

Have a look at the work from another FFE player and see what you think.
If this is all true then it makes sense why TPTB want Thargoids to be forgotten.

Yep, it's all true. However, don't forget that FFE was released in an unfinished state by the publisher (which lead to a lawsuit between DB and GameTek), and many possible branches of the Thargoid storyline were unfinished and/or not working. As such, it would make sense that Frontier would now rather retcon the whole thing. Even the most finished scenario, where the player would choose to aid the Thargoids, had some pretty serious bugs. Also, at the end, your Alliance handlers would tell you that you were outlawed in the Empire and the Federation, but nothing of the sort happened.

It could also be that the canon ending was where the player would side with INRA and betray the Thargoids, by not delivering a mycoid vaccine, but instead an improved version of the virus to their world in Miackce. That would certainly explain the cover-up since then, and why the Thargoids have disappeared. This would also mean that the later journal articles (listed on Jades' site) would be invalidated, of course.

In any case, back to something more relevant to the topic on hand: looking at the artifact from the video, I'm fairly certain that it has something to do with Peregrina. It does look like some kind of seeding mechanism. It would be entirely possible that Peregrina's moon became a plague world due to some Thargoid experiments - or maybe there is no plague. It could be an INRA cover-up of something else that's on the world. (It'd certainly be an efficient way of eliminating anyone who might have stumbled upon something there.) Also, it's a terraformed world according to the system map - why would anyone terraform a plague world?
Besides, the system's description specifically mentions alien artifacts, so I'd say it's still a prime candidate for looking. I've just fitted a cargo scanner and heading back there.

As a small aside : what software are people using to record video / audio, just on the off-chance that I find anything when I get back from work this evening.

OBS - Open Broadcaster Software. Requires a little finangling to get it working properly, but it's free - can't beat the cost :)

:D
What is this Lone Starr Winnabago Group you speak of?!? surely you must recognize my Callsign :)

Well when you flounced off as a prince I bought your old ship and now run rubber dog turds from Taiwan in it ! its tough but its a living :D Barf says HI !

This is the biggest downer for me with this, not knowing where to look. I don't mind looking for a needle in a haystack, but I can't help feeling we're looking for a needle in a whole field of haystacks and only one haystack has it. This could go on for months and I doubt anyone currently active on this thread this week will still find it fun in a months time if nothing has turned up. I agree with the earlier poster who says a GalNet article with a subtle hint is overdue. Those hints and trying to figure them out are the real fun behind this, grinding signal sources isn't. There is no thinking involved, its a monotonous grind and between us all we must have put 1,000 man-hours into it by now. I want this hunt to involve thinking and working out clues, not just grinding away on what could be dead ends. I'm sure others have reached that point too by now.

I agree that if we made no progress in a month then a lot of people would lose interest (I bet a few would keep going though), but it hasn't been a month, it's been a few days. A GalNet hint is not overdue.
