Rammers at George Lucas Station

I worry when people have a habit of ramming....you have to feel for them, as if they are making up for something elsewhere. Or other undesirable activity.

I dont ram people to death close to stations, but i use ramming in combat zones and RES. Just because its a) legal and b) a valid tactic. And you should be always prepared, just like you prepare for interdictions and simple pvp fights when you see someone.
And it doesnt matter what happened to the mod. DayZ is popular just because of this - you risk anything, any time you play on a populated server. And you expect people to do bad things to you if they can find you. And there is nothing wrong about it, its a part of the gameplay. You dont have to do it, but you have to expect it from anyone that you see.
And people really should learn how to fly. Because its really easy to dodge in this game - try to ram a fast npc at full speed, you will most likely miss him. And if an npc can dodge, a player can do it better.
I just hope FD will keep ramming as a part of the gameplay to get rid of an opponent fast, without even killing him - destroy his shields and do some hull dmg and he is gone for a while, traveling to the next station.

3) The universe is a dangerous place, the game itself has it in the name. I would like too see more options where you can actually die if you dont do it right. The high rebuy cost reduced the pvp activity, the solo/private mode did the rest. Is it wrong to expect a dangerous world where you can get destroyed everywhere, even inside a station? That would make the game interesting and "hard".
I know many people just want to fly around, trade and dont even bother about the danger outside by doing it solo, but for me its just wrong.

Gah! Whilst I agree with some of the sentiment of your point 3, I also believe that it might be nice to give starters to the game the chance to 'learn2fly' so that they can stay in the game and potentially give you the 'run for your money' that you seem to desire?

This is one reason why I wish we had a "record" option to record game data for playback later outside of the game, as it would allow us to send actionable evidence to FDEV for people that do stuff like this. And as an added feature, maybe even allow us to create some really nice movies with cinematic camera shots from all sorts of different angles.
There are decent video capture options from both the major graphics card manufacturers. AMD's Gaming Evolved one is particularly handy for such incidents as it includes a "DVR" function that keeps a running record of a short period of time (15 seconds by default, but you can increase it), and then you can save it out by hitting a key combo. So if something happens and you think "I wish I'd recorded that", just hit the button and you did.

Not always useful in these situations as you often can't see who's ramming you, but handy if you witness them doing it to someone else.

Well they already got this option.
First: they dont spawn all in the same station. Second: they can leave when ever they want.
Third: the starter ships are so cheap and the sidey is free, its a huge bonus. They get rebuy costs with 2-3 pirate kills covered, i need about 20 fat pirates to cover my rebuy cost once and people in big ships like T9 + Cargo have to spend hours to cover the rebuy + cargo/bounty/mission rewards. The hardest part is exploring, they lose data, not only money. And this hurts, losing weeks of work instead of hours of pure farming or trading.

Danger should be present at any time, doest matter how many hours someone spent ingame and how good he is.
If people really want to learn, they can always choose to play solo for a couple hours and learn how to dogfight, avoid collisions and learn other mechanics and tricks (like dont fly around without shields and without power in shields).
If they die, thats what will teach them how to avoid it.

I don't mind the rammers. Keeps me on my toes. Devs would do well to monitor things more closely though. If a CMDR gets reported for ramming, FD investigate. If they are a serial ram killer, that CMDR will find that all stations in the system have a welcoming committee of hostile police Anacondas waiting for them. i.e. maybe we need human monitoring of busy stations, rather than some contrived 100m/s rule.

Serial ram killer, we add that to the E.D dictionary :D

You know that ramming in stations is 'wrong'? This is not about ramming in combat - (I don't even like getting the paintwork scratched, never mind deliberately damaging the structural integrity of the only thing between me and vacuum.)

At Ridley Scott in Zaonce this afternoon, as I was leaving the station I was rammed repeatedly. I didn't have time to identify the "attacker" because I was busy trying to not get stuck in the 'birdcage'. (there was already a ship stuck there)
This was no accident - I was in a small ship and well over to the greenlight side.
This was in a 'no fire zone' - the intention of the no fire zone is for there to be no attacking - ships of opposing factions can dock and not worry about being blasted out of existence while they are unloading cargo. Without this 'convention' stations would be regularly destroyed by 'enemies' and space travel would cease.

The Universe is a dangerous place and we need to create and maintain some safe places.

Danger should be in the game due to people playing the game properly NOT by people exploiting holes in game mechanics in such a way that players can't defend themselves using in game mechanics. Not to mention if the aggressors got their money from using exploits or cheats.

Elite is meant to be a sim with believable consequences and where the environment makes sense. Ramming without consequence under the polices nose does NOT make sense.

Well that can change, but right now ramming is legal, doesnt matter where.
So anyone has a chance to do it. If people dont have the right ship and right outfitting for this kind of "fun", they should avoid it by flying carefully. Or outfit their ship so they can stay alive even when 2 people fly into them at the same time.

And making a collision to a crime doesnt make sense at all. Murder (not suicide) - yes, but they want to make anyone criminal who has a collision and is over the (really low) speed limit, even when no damage has been done.
So i`m against the new rule.

I dont see this as an exploit, its just a part of the gameplay. You want a realistic environment and gameplay? Here you go, flying with 250+ km/h into a 350T ship will most likely kill you. And the bigger ship wins here.

what a crock of s***, there is no way to "fly carefully" when you have a self righteous little ***** deliberately flying at you as you try to dock.

There is a way, dodging a collision is way easier than actually hit someone at full speed. Try it.
Sure, if you fly blind, focus on your landing pad and you dont care about avoiding the guys around you, there is no way to help you. In my vulture i can dodge most collisions. You have enough space to dodge in all directions, use it.
And mostly you dont even have to dodge, your huge shield and shield booster is there for a reason - to protect you. Not only from weapons. And if you throw away your shield for max profit while trading, thats your risk.

Your point(s) are full of contradictions. IE: "Realistically" if you were seen ramming someone with deliberate intent, it would be viewed as criminal intent to cause harm/damage/whatever. From a "realistic" point of view.

Now if you want to cherry pick what is "realistic" regarding gameplay vs real-life "realistic" scenarios,,,,,,,,

Well, carry on. But don't expect many to agree with your point.

You're just not really getting it cryon1cang3l... EVERY action in this game has consequences for attacking someone else EXCEPT Ramming. It's a "free ticket" to kill without consequences. So it is essentially an exploit whether you think so or not. I shoot and kill you unprovoked I am punished for it(Wanted, Fines, Bounty)If I ram you I just get to go on without a single consequence. You can go on about "Fly Careful" all you like but the point still stands it goes against the "rules" of the game as it has no "rules or consequences" like every other action does.

So why would they just dont make you a criminal if you killed someone while ramming? And no, suicide doesnt count, so if someone hit you and die, its his problem and not yours?
And why instant wanted status for ramming, even without any hull dmg done? Thats the opposite of realism. If you hit someone with your car, your insurance jump in and the worst that can happen to you - your insurance cost goes up.
And here if you scratch someone, you are a wanted criminal and anyone wants a piece of you, specially the station?
Really bad idea overall - so far for the upcoming patch. And a small bounty or fine doesnt stop people from killing with weapons, why would it stop someone from ramming you to death? If they want it, they will do it.

The 1.3 patch will make it even worse. Right now there is no punishment and no speed limit. If you die in the process, its your problem. Just like hitting asteroids and stations - mistakes are deadly sometimes and its good. No kindergarten please if you know what i mean. We need way more ways to die in this game - people complain about not enough action already, thats why they search for anything that can spice it up.

And just to be clear on the whole ramming thing: In battle, anything goes. Your ship itself is a weapon that can be used in lieu of (or when out of) weapons. But in a no fire zone, using your ship as a weapon to inflict damage is criminal.

Again, "realistically" speaking,,,,,,,,,,

And again, if the collision ie deemed accidental, then yes, at most your insurance goes up and that's it.

But if you intentionally hit someone, you WILL have criminal charges brought up against you.

No, ramming at a station is possible, but it's not legal. The station announcers repeatedly say that aggressive behaviour is prohibited.

People should learn2fly

OK, you're entering the startport letterbox at speed 100 and a Clipper boosts out with intent to ram you. What do you do? You can't get past the Clipper because it's too wide. You can't avoid the letterbox because the ship can't turn or reverse fast enough.

If I've got strong shields I bounce off, but smaller or weaker or damaged ships have no option.

Ramming at the station is an exploit. It's a shame that the selfish behaviour of a few mean the new restrictive speed rules are needed to fix it, and these will inconvenience everyone.

Then, as Stefan has said, he'll just find a new way of greifing people.

Well who decides here was it an accident, a suicide attempt or did you try to kill the guy?
FD assumes now that anyone over the speed limit is a potential killer and if he hits someone, he will be a criminal. And this is a problem.
If the patch goes live just like that, every time you hit someone with significant speed, you will be a criminal and the station will kill you.

And no fire zone means just that - no fire. Ramming is allowed and should be allowed. If you kill someone, they can charge you for that, if you do damage to the hull - you get a fine. If there is no damage done to the ship, nothing happens. Suicide attemps will not count at all.

If you were watching, how would you know? The answer is, a single incident may be an accident but if he repeatedly rams people then it's intentional. The game could detect that.
