Does it make any pattern if you go by musical pitch notation instead? (D, F and all them other ones)

It did wonder this when I found the tuba tune. We need a top class musician. Stat.

Personally I'm not sure if it needs so much as "deciphering", more "translating". Probably not something we can do but more a foreshadowing.

I definitely recall seeing a screenshot either here or on Reddit about an NPC convoy talking about "spooky things" happening on board since they scooped some weird cargo thing.

Can anyone dig that out?

I found it. Some guy posted this ages ago:

https://forums.frontier.co.uk/attachment.php?attachmentid=33557

So these items have been in-game since Wings update.

My guess is that this is as far as it goes currently; it's just a stepping stone to eventual Thargoids invasion and maybe some interesting story plotlines for now.

All these UA's are probably Thargoid beacons of some sort. And ya'll are just happily lugging them around like a bunch of fruitloops.

Who knows what kind of fire you guys are playing with here. :p

Just a thought: Many good riddles suggest a certain way to solve them but in fact require a different, maybe even more simple, approach. Might that be the case here as well? Analysing the sounds by technical means and alteration seems to be the method at hand, and also a very complex one, like decrypting something. Many possibilities yet all fail. As suggested by another poster and SteveLaw before, might the solution be more (technically) simple, in-game maybe? Or maybe we need to find and assemble different artefacts to get the complete "tune".
Well we might assemble the Thargoid Invasion Gate that way, but humanity is just curious ...

Awesome job chaps - just sat and read this thread for half an hour to catch up!

Just in terms of cleaning up the audio - there is a lot of 'idle' noise in ships.

Just a suggestion, but what we now need to do is:

Drop to a 'quiet' location in space.

Record ambient audio with no canister present.

Drop the canister, record the audio of it.

Compare and subtract the ambient audio from the canister audio.

This will give us a 'clean' track to play with and listen to.

simple, but genious

I think you guys are making this more complicated than it is. Frontier dropped perfect hints in the 1.2 trailer and no one even noticed. Now that we have the unknown artefact and it's making audio you want to try and decode it. They said listen to it. It looks and sounds alien. I'm pretty sure that's all there is to it.

Just destroyed on of the two I have scooping it too hard(and I was not going that fast) - fragile, scoop slow!

Use night setting for the audio it really boosts the sound it makes.

We finally found one! I wasn't able to join in the hunt sadly, but I've been following this thread all week.

Just something I've noticed: The whale sound repeats every 30s, and there are about 5 to 7 "growling" sounds in that time. Maybe the whale sounds are spaces and the growling decodes to something?

Probably way off the mark but its interesting.

The whole sound repeats over about 60s

I agree.. Appealing to the ideology that this is something that could be solved by the 'masses' the solution (if there is one and this hasn't been a gigantic Easter egg hunt windup) is going to be found by using what is available to us in game.
Has anyone taken theirs to Peregrina yet? The connection of toxicity and aliens is too strong not to attempt this.

So, now we have heard this thing, flying all alone in space seems alot more...Spooky.

Also... The artifacs are actually the Thargoids. We are torturing them with what we are doing. They will seek vengence on us.
