Ships Type-9 Trading vs Other Trading Options

This can turn into a Type-9 Fan Page, I'm good with that...But...I have a question about the Type-9 first. I started trading for the first time in a clipper with 240Tons. When I got the "Nu" clipper I realised that trading was my next experience if I wanted to kit it out. Anyway I found a nice single jump route with 2.5K round trip and made 90mil safely and it was fun and agile to fly. But my question is around my next step. I initially thought that I should get a type-9 as the next ship to maximise trading dollars but when I looked into it I saw that although its 500Tons with shields (I am in open) it would take a lot longer to complete the route and its a lead brick to fly so although you are doubling the tonnage you are not doubling the profit (maybe 1.5?). Anyway after much research I decided that I would get a trading Python at 282T with 3A shields and its been great. I found a 1 hop trading route where one was an outpost and I am doing 2.5K round trip in 10mins which is 1.4Mil per 20mins or 4.2Mil per hour. And its safe and easy to fly.
So has anyone got numbers on types of routes and Mil per hour for the type-9 ? I'm sure you are doing better than me but I am interested in how you find it etc. I have an aggressive flying style which has seen my shields save me from my self on multiple occasions and I don't know how I would fare in a type-9.

I found a route for 1 round trip at 2420. Requires 3 jumps and the stations are 270 and 70 ls away from defold. Since I suck at flying and overshoot every single time, 1 rund trip takse 6-7 minutes. In an hour I expect 6 million. At least I can watch anime while doing so.

Would you mind sharing your route?

Last route on my T9 before I went exploring was bringing in just under 2 mill every 16 mins. 2 jumps in the the T9. Non issue flying the T9 for me, I keep flight assist off to speed things up a bit.

I've flown the T9, Anaconda, Python, T7, Asp & T6 for cargo and to be honest for raw cash per hour without wing beacons or anything fancy. I was trading on a 19.5 LY route with 1100 profit one way, and 1000 the other. Nothing special but it was very reliable and stabilized quickly when being hounded by trade tool users. When it was under duress the route would stabilize at 1000/1000 each way.

In my T6 I made about 600K-1M an hour depending on my hustle at the time. It was very well fit and did the route in 1 jump. When you upgrade your thrusters and power distributor the little matchbox goes aflame.

I used the Asp at one time, and it was great for combining trading with combat activities but the T6 was much more efficient at trading when upgraded to the same price point as a stock Asp, just due to its speed and agility.

In the T7 I loved trading with it. The jump range reduction over my T6 sucked, but the lakon when fitted with a proper thruster and power distributor definitely felt like it grew up from the T6. I consistantly made 1.2M+ an hour with the T7.

In my Python I fit for 282 tons of cargo and a C3 and was racking in about 1.7M+ an hour. This ship is by no means impressive when fit for trading but it trades a lot faster than the T7, especially once you get the thruster and power distributor upgrades.

When I used the T9, it was a major profit upgrade from my Python, especially when I was in the moods where I'm passively trading while doing other things (fairly common for me). My profits were well over 2m an hour with this ship.

The Anaconda.. was ridiculous. When I traded with this it outclassed the T9 for pure trading by such a huge margin that it made the T9 feel worthless. The conda can be a little unwieldy in supercruise but still out performs the T9. A trade fitted Conda can be fitted with a shield, 468 tons of cargo and have a jump range exceeding 20 LY. This alone makes it the best trade ship hands down.

My conclusion is that there are really 3 real choices for trade ships.

Type 6 for entry level and speed trading/smuggling.
Python for highest profit capability with outposts.
Anaconda to drastically shorten longer high profit routes, but loses outpost dockability.

Sadly as much as I love the feel of the T9's flight mechanics... It's not on the list when money isn't an option.

Ir really just depends on the route. I own both the Conda and T9, the T9 hauls 532T. The conda just can't make the same level of cash on all my routes. I keep it as an explorer

I honestly cant see the point in trading long routes, you can find thousands of high profit short range routes out there. Now if you are talking about community goals, I'll always convert the anaconda back into a freighter, or use a Python.

Thanks for the feedback, really interesting. I worked hard to find a single jump trade as it seemed like a major waste to jump more than once although it can be tough to find the right one. I'd like to fly a T9 at some stage for the experience.

If you have a trade route the T9 can do in one jump and dock at both stations, then definitely go for the T9. Any of the "faster" and longer range trade ships at that point have their advantages completely nullified by the cargo bay size on the T9.

I currently have 7C thrusters on my T9. Any opinions on whether 7As are worth the the upgrade costs?

Right now, it takes me quite a few boosts to get beyond station mass lock although switching FA off helps a lot. I also switch FA off when maneuvering at the slot while docking. I find the T9 surprisingly easy to doc actually. So I wonder if better thrusters makes much of a difference.

I traded in a T9 for a while, then I moved to an Anaconda. The extra speed, jump range and manoeuvrability meant that I could make significantly more in the Anaconda than I could in the T9 over the same period. By about 175%. It also has the advantage that you tend not to be interdicted by NPC's that much when in the Anaconda, where as the T9 was just an interdiction magnet for me!

Anaconda FTW :)

CMDR Makya, I ran the lightest D thrusters in my T9 I could, trying to maximize jump range in that beast. Not sure if the extra maneuverability is worth losing the jump range, I guess it depends on the route?

Anaconda - 468T with shields?

Can you link that build in edshipyard?

Yeah, 468 T is a shieldless anaconda. But you want to run those big rigs shieldless anyways. I think anaconda is a bit better but honestly it's a matter of taste, and the kinds of routes you know about. Our good friend 777driver is a die-hard T9 fan, and I am sure he does very well in that ship.

I personally like the look and feel of a T9 better than the look of the anaconda for trading. It feels weird using the anaconda as a trader because it looks like a warship. T9 looks and feels like a container ship should. But it was harder for me to find good T9 routes, so I switched.

This is my Mobius config. Shields & weapons for OPEN and community goals. http://www.edshipyard.com/#/L=606,,2-A0A09Y8SBaD88I,0Bk0AA0AA0AA08c08c08c07207207203w

@Puca, I am definitely a T9 nut :) The Conda is definitely the all round better choice, I love flying that ship. Still, the DK2 view from the bridge on the T9 drags me back everytime. And taming the insane inertia on that beast while hauling 532T, it's a rush for me at least! :)

Hey 777Driver, would you say the DK2 helps with flying the T9 i.e. does it give you a better feel for drift and how the ship is moving ?

Without a doubt, you are inside a life size ship with the DK2, also the ability to judge depth is exactly like the real world. I also use a BK gamer, it allows you to feel the ship, everything becomes second nature.

Good times ahead for everyone waiting on the CV1 or Valve headset :)

Curious how you can get 532 tonnes of cargo in a Type-9. Best I could do was 524 tonnes with no shields and 492 tonnes with shields.

Don't think that can be done. The most haulage for a Conda with shields is 452T I believe. 468T is no shields at all which I NEVER do. Spending a huge amount of time making up for the cargo/insurance loss of an Anaconda fill with Palladium is to high a gamble for me.

I was wrong, it was 452 tons. But here you go. This is a 20.49 LY range 452t Anaconda.

Yeah... The Anaconda without any armor upgrades is actually considerably thin when it comes to collisions. Going without shields is just asking to have to pay rebuy.

Do you guy's own a Conda? I get interdicted in my Shieldless Conda by wings and actually find it amusing that they barely put a dent on me, plus they cant mass lock me. Have never been interdicted by a cmdr. Prior to 1.1 I would have run shields, now repair costs are practically zero.

I only install shields on my Conda for community goals and warzones.

I can't bear the view in the conda, having the deck obscuring 40% of the view isn't worth any amount of money. :p I only flew one in beta and resold it after less than one hour, but have no plans whatsoever to buy one again.

Next time you see a Conda, take a look at the observation deck, it's fully modeled if you view it externally in VR (debug camera) Cant wait till we can access it and walk around our ships.

Obs deck is the huge glass canopy on the underside of the nose https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=122262
