Explorer's home system?

Good evening Commanders,
I've been out on about four explorations now and I just target the nearest system with a station on the way back to sell my data. I thought this worked quite well, as it meant I land at a random station, splurg my data and become friendly with a station/faction but now I wonder whether this is the best strategy.

I've now got enough credits to buy a decent spec'd Cobra for poodling about the inhabited systems and adding a bit of variety to my game but this means I now need a home base to store my T-6 and re-fitt for trading if I fancy a bit.

What do you do when deciding to sell data or store ships?

My shopping list is as follows:
I want a place that can be a jack of all trades, kills and finds, so to say.

First Look for a system in the pay-off range of the LAVE rares run (150LY) or thereabouts so whenever you want you can make a rares run if the mood strikes me.
Find a large High Tech system near a even larger Agriculture system 1 or 2 jumps away. This gives you the chance to get the most choices in outfitting. It also make for high credit trade runs.

I picked Yembo/Valda and then FD did the first community goal there and it hasn't been the same since.

Powerplay will make changes to factions so I can't recommend considering politics into where you plant your flag and hang your boots. No in the short term anyway.

I picked a HiTech System that has a station and two outpost, next to an agricultural system with rares.

Next thing I did was to expand the faction of the Agr into the HiTech. Then Civil War. Now the faction controls both systems and I can finally sell my data, to the faction I like, in a scientific outpost. All independent and in fact, needing more people to join me in this effort. So Mi casa es su casa if you are interested.

I haven't been able to comprehend what Powerplay will do in your situation. Do you think your efforts will survive 1.3? It would be an interesting notion to get a bunch of explorers to turn a spot like that.
I say we rename a station to Bowman's Obelisk.

Well, being that the systems and all others around it are indies, I'm actually not too worry about it.

I just have the fair hope my faction will keep the hold on both. After all, I know Many other CMDRs have expanded their factions as well and it would be wrong from FD to change all that.

My home is the Vess Ring in Cao Gong. When PowerPlay drops I plan to support whatever faction controls that station. Helping the home team and all that sort of thing.

I haven't really wrapped my head around this part of the game. I call Yi Trica home. It's kind of on the frontier, and is the high-tech half of a really productive trade route. I just sell all of my data there, which is probably a waste.

Are there any advantages to playing the factions?

My home is an Independent Hi-Tech system 1 jump from a Federation Agriculture on the rim of Fed space with refinery/mining systems nearby. Ok trade routes (no rares though) with Hi-tech stuff to the Agriculture system->food related stuff to refinery/mining->silver to Hi-tech. No griefers in sight which is where I made my first mill to buy stuff for exploring in my starting Cobra.

I suppose that iv two home bases, my first is where my other ships are & where i trade, then iv got my exploration base. This is the farthest out system with a station in civvy space I use to go into & return from my exploration trips

How do you go about expanding a faction? I thought the most you could do was change friendly hostile status.

Hi Tech Empire system. I have a stored Python there, which was gutted to fund the gear for the Asp, I will go back there and re-instal all the systems back inot the Python, or buy a T9 depending on the amount of credits I make.

I had a good trade route on the edge of the bubble that I used to kit my out my T-6 for exploring, so there's a cluster of three or four stations in those systems I'm friendly with. I was the only CMDR for parsecs, so it suited me at the time.

spooky, not only we have same habits when logging off, we both have pythons stored away :D

...in a high tech Empire system no less !!!

Lol, I think mine is in Wuru system. I tend to leave the Python at a Hi tech as I am usually buying and fitting out an asp. I tend to sell the asp when I get back, but maybe I wont this time, credits dependent. Its obviously the empirical way of exploring.....

I didn't choose any particular system to be a home. I do have one backwater system run by some obscure independent faction where I am keeping my little fleet, but that's about it. My true home is my Asp :)
