Abandoned [RELEASE] Trade Computer Extension

Sorry if this has been asked before, I searched the thread but could not find anything.

For some reason TCE does not display my current position anymore. The panel only shows a star system and a sector. It started when I visited a station in the same system I had previously been in. The version I was using at this point was 1.39.

TCE itself is not reporting any errors. However, when starting a new instance of Excel with TCE running I get the following error message:
Error in Position_Display
Error Line: 10
POS ID: 0 DES ID: 0
Unregistered: False
Error (9): Subscript out of range

Now here's what I have tried to fix it so far, without any success
1) upgraded 1.39f (including unblocking and all) -> same problem
2) cleared netlog folders and ran TCE again -> no luck still
3) deleted the entire TCE folder and installed V1.39 (which used to work fine previously) -> still not working
4) deleted netlogs and TCE again, reinstalled and upgraded to V1.39f -> no luck

Nothing of this worked. Any suggestions what might be going on here? It just seems very weird how suddenly the error occurred and how persistent it is, even after a complete reinstall.
Appreciate any help, cheers!

[EDIT] I did not restore my old database after reinstalling. So any database errors should not have been carried over

The error was fixed in V1.39d. Now, did you have the error with the V1.39f or TCE doesn't detect you in space? Its not really clear, if you had the error message or the detection problem.

I would suggest you the following:
Start ED till you are ingame, then start TCE V1.39f (with your database). Did you get the error? If so, please send me your database or upload it, so i could download it. I will check then, where the problem is.

eventure, just a small suggestion for a very useful feature (as long as you haven't that covered in your new logbook, that is):

station notes. don't know for what other users use this, but i note available outfitting and ships in there.
when i'm on a trade route or somesuch i think abaout buying x or y.
now i need an option to locate these systems i added notes for.
so, is there a way like you did with the 'large station' thingy to add a checkbox or somesuch
for highlighting stations in the destination panel which have station notes?
this would be very handy, i think.

Is covered in the logbook, stations with notes are colored, without are white.

Eventure's Exploration Computer Extension :)

Went exploring today, way out in the black.

So I tested the ADD STAR SYSTEM portion of TCE
way more then I did ever since I started using it.
I also added a few station notes and many System notes to my db,
and I am happy to report that TCE is rock solid !!! :)

Apart from the error cause by running it in the background for too long,
reported in my previous post #2277 of course :

Looking through the code i have found an issue in case of FTP usage. Can't tell, how big it is.

Anyone using FTP ? Any problems or vanishing data? Please report your experience. Thanks.

I haven't run TCE for about 1 week. I update to the latest version TCE v1.39f and to EliteOCR 0.6.0.2. After it seems TCE completed its initiation but not loaded the top line menu I get the following error message from Excel:

Excel Error 1.png

Click OK and the same error message pops up. Click OK on this second error message and I get the TCE top line menu and everything seems to work fine.

Closing and re-opening TCE exactly the same sequence of events takes place ie 2 identical Excel errors and then the TCE menu line appears. So this Excel error does not seem to stop TCE from working but any ideas why I am getting this error?

Win 7 and Excel 2010

Can only be your database. It is possible to upload, so i can check it?
Can you check it again with a clean database? You can use the TCE.mdb_clean for it. Rename your database to e.g. TCE.mdb_tmp and the _clean to TCE.mdb.
Thanks.

A couple of questions that might be good general knowledge for all TCE users :

Would changing my REFERENCE STARS now,
with many systems already entered in my db with the original 4 you provided,
cause any problem in my database ?

I'm asking, because as I get further away from known space,
the distance from each of these 4 stars is getting to be the same.

Am I right in assuming that it is less precise this way ?

Would it not be more accurate if I took 4 stars that are further apart from each other ? Like one on each "side" of the galaxy "North - South - East - West"

And, do these reference stars have to be ones I have visited already and/or already be in the database ?
or can it be any unknown start in the ED galaxy map ???

Lastly,
(I do not say that I want to do this all the time, but I'd like to know if it is an option)
Could you make it so that we could also enter the X, Y, Z coordinates from ED's galaxy map directly into the ADD and/or MODIFY STAR SYSTEM RECORD without using the reference at all ?
You can see the coordinates in blue on the map in the format : SOL 0 : 0 : 0
But I can see now that it would be less accurate since ED doesn't provide 3 decimal point !

You could change the reference stars as you like, there should be no problem with your database. But they are not saved, so the default stars are in, if your restart TCE. I have choosen these stars, because they names are easy to spell and short. That was before i am using the clipboard.

Accuracy come to play, if you are really far away from these stars, if their differences are really small . Then you have to choose some new stars for your position.
Because TCE calculates the distance, all four stars must be known to TCE. Entering the values from the galaxy map is quite inaccurate.

Thank you so much, amazing effort mate. This is a must in the year 3301, were you can travel faster than light but you cant keep track of the economical or travel data of the galaxy....

A well deserved +rep for you, this addon makes elite a more enjoyable game, thanks!

I presume you meant TCE.mdb_clear (not _clean) in the DB folder. TCE started fine with TCE.mdb_clear.

My current TCE.mdb is attached.

Forgot to say Win 7 is 64-bit if it makes any difference.

Huuuu, sorry, another one lol
How much would you say the minimum difference between the distance to each reference has to be to maintain a decent accuracy ?

Cartography Update

CARTOGRAPHY's STELLAR list does not always update after entering a new system !

and the system that is not added to the list in this way will only show up in the list 2 or 3 jumps later. I have to do more test but I suspect that it only shows up after you have actually added another system again to trigger it to update.

Error 9

I do not know what I did different but I just got an Error 9 accessing Cartography shortly after adding a new star system:

You can usually close Excel normally when you end debug,
but I had to kill it with the task manager after this one.
Excel was frozen without it's top menu bar.

Got that same error a second time, still unsure why,
but I was able to close Excel normally this time.

Regarding Cartography's reference system,
I tought of 2 ways of improving it a bit if you wanted.

1. add 4 lines in the ini file and/or a new panel in TCE,
so that we could change the default reference points to new ones.

or, even better, if the code allows it :

2. Now that we can paste the system name, it's length doesn't matter so much anymore !

To take full advantage of that:

There are 4 references,

Keep SOL static as #1 because it is our HOME, it is 0 : 0 : 0 in ED
and Humans have to be the center of all Universes after all ! :)

Then make TCE automatically copy/paste the system with the biggest absolute number for each 3 coordinate X, Y, Z, so :

the system with the biggest +or- X in the db would be chosen for #2
the system with the biggest +or- Y in the db would be chosen for #3
the system with the biggest +or- Z in the db would be chosen for #4

That way, the more one explore outside of know space,
the wider apart his reference coordinates become :)

That has to do with your distance from the stars, e.g. if you are 100 LY away from two ref. stars, these stars should have a min. distance of 50 LY. But its only a guess.

CARTOGRAPHY's STELLAR list does not always update after entering a new system !

There is an update of the Cartography data missing at the Star System Database panel. Corrected it.

the system with the biggest +or- X in the db would be chosen for #2
the system with the biggest +or- Y in the db would be chosen for #3
the system with the biggest +or- Z in the db would be chosen for #4

This has the advantage to spread the ref. star mostly wide, but has the disadvantage to enter columns of numbers for each star. The most remote star in database is more than 25.000 LY away from sol. Have to think over, if there is a way in-between.

I am hoping, the upcomming API gives us this data, so this calculation is not required anymore. Until then the system could stay as it is.

Eventure et al,

A request for help please. I have been throughly beaten whilst trying to install TCE.

Every time I thought I had solved my inability to progress beyond the setup phase I was presented with the same familiar 'Permission denied error 70'

I have deactivated UAC, rebooted, repeatedly and checked and rechecked that it is off.

I have also unblocked the original Zip files re-installed and checked both TCE Setup.xlsm and TCE.xlsm and they are showing as not blocked.

Any further ideas before I resort to piracy to make a living?

Hello Coterie,

hmm, lets make a different approach (next version make that too):
1. Create a textfile in your TCE folder and enter your install path plus TCE Setup.xlsm in quotes signs (you can get it from your explorer) like "C:\My TCE\TCE Setup.xlsm". Rename it to TCE Setup.bat.
2. Create a second textfile in your TCE folder and enter your install path plus TCE.xlsm in quotes signs like "C:\My TCE\TCE.xlsm". Rename it to TCE.bat.
3. Create a shortcut for each batch file to your desktop. Open the properties of each shortcut and activate the "Run as Administrator" option.
4. Click the shortcut for the setup. Now SAVE AND EXIT should work.

Please report back, if it is working. Thanks.
