Hello there

Like many of us I come from a generation where we would just buy a game on tape and that was it. No dlc, no bug fixes, just you, your computer of choice (obviously ZX wins) and hopefully a colour TV and a tape player.

*IF* the message is just noise then cool. If *we* are daft enough to hop on the hype train (hype cobra?) then all is good.

I spent hours in "Dungeon Master" on my ST trying to corrupt my savegame to see if I could exit out of the dungeon and see what was there. Utterly futile but it was a pivotal time in my childhood where my imagination took over from cold hard fact. I would have hated it if the dev came along and pointed out how ridiculous my efforts were. Same with Ant attack on the Speccy. I was always looking for stuff that wasnt there.

I vote no. dont tell us. Not yet. Not for a few years. Let it become part of the great unknowns.

When im in my 90's id like to read in the matrix (if reading still exists) that the signal was just a devs Sisters of Mercy Track played backwards and messed around with for a laugh, id be more than happy with that if indeed it is nonsense.

Im off to shout at a cloud.

Rgds

LoK

ps there *was* going to be a point to my first sentence but i became sidetracked...which was the style at the time...)

if there is no puzzle they should make one up

This!

I think we all know "they" are coming, but I doubt that there's a huge planet / station / fleet of aliens already in the game waiting for us to find them. I think Frontier will add them in a major update (perhaps silently), we're just in the "hype" phase now.

At most the UAs will probably lead to something else - a clearer message? A shipwreck maybe? A destroyed station? Or maybe the UAs are the warning. But I think Frontier are quite happy with the hype this is generating, and should/will keep adding to it.

The GTA 5 jet pack/mount chilliad mystery is still going strong.....that's been debated for years....it may not even be real.

who cares ?

Its all good stuff. Say nothing further FD...you've sown the seed....let it lie.

oh and C64 for the win.

If it not an over hoped Easter egg, then FD would be advised to come up with something to make it worth the time many have spent.

But....

Its not really FDs fault.

Perhaps the explanation is an easy one.

Maybe UA sounds like another thing already in the game?

Maybe some thing in plain sight....

but but the recent hoax was actually very creative and pretty well done.....

I'll tell you what, the lack of negativity in these threads over the last few days has been absolutely wonderful (and I hasten to add that my creation of this poll was not meant to be negative, it's a big "IF" in the subject heading there, I've been as drawn into this story as anyone). You people are amazing, the skill sets you've brought to bear here (audio and signal processing, sound engineering, cryptography, astronomy, philosophy and psychology) ... amazing! I doubt there's another game out there who's forums are filled with this level of scientific endeavour.

Don't thank me, I've just been the observer in all of this. :p But I agree, the forum has been a great place this week, and everybody has been great. :)

To be fair to FDev, all they need to do is drop in the next stage with a little bug patch and just not say too much about it. Then give it a few weeks and start hints on galnet. Easy peasy.

IF there really is no meaning behind the noises from the alien device I would rather not know.

As others have mentioned it's brought some of the community together in a wild logic-hunt for the unknown.

Reminds me of the button in Diablo 2 (Purple gem) - it actually did nothing (according to Blizzard many years later IIRC) but people were convinced it did something and clicked away .. oh simpler times :)

Yeah, who among us had not hoped to stumble across a Generation Ship, after all? ;)

Hey, we still might! fingers_crossed.gif

;)

I voted no. I much prefer the way it is now and the mystery surrounding it.

Even if there is nothing to be solved, I don't think anyone will have wasted their time as they have used this time having a lot of fun.

I was super excited about it when it happened (I'm based in He Bo), but didn't bother actually going to youtube and listening to it, mainly because I'm not a cryptographer. I have a better chance of eating a watermelon whole than decode this thing. So I really wasn't sure if there was anything there. Well, if you have just been reading these for a couple of days and haven't actually seen and heard it, Go, now, watch it. If this thing is not trying to communicate I will cut out both of my eyelids with unsterilized tuna fish can lids.

Haha i will hold you on that eye lid promise !! Also a link to feed my curiosity, nice !

I don't really care. I see some people invested tons of time and creative thinking into all that, but I am pretty sure that there is no puzzle to be solved. Especially not using out of the game methods - everything should be connected to some in-game mechanics, currently missing obviously. And once all this fuss gets some concrete purpose and meaning, I expect it to work exactly like that. In game.

For what it's worth, a friend of mine is dating someone who works at FDEV - there's definitely a secret to be unravelled/discovered... but despite my efforts said friend isn't giving me any clues!!

What if FD did not expect such as fuzz about the UA's, and they don't have anything in the game that has to do with it for the moment (despite what everybody wants it to be)
Lets just say they all started working super hard to get something new in the game so that the mystery quest can continue and is that the reason they are not releasing anything (yet)

Just a theory :)
