UNKNOWN ARTEFACT: Sound Engineers, apply here!

The sample in https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pmfcAqK48po is different and 2x longer.

You're right! And that's the video I was watching when I noticed that when the growl/howl happens, the artefact lights up.
The lights stay on while the chittering happens.
Once the chittering finishes, the lights go out, and the "tuba" purrs start.
The chittering fills the "empty" gap between the growl and the beginning of the purrs.

And here's My snippet of just the "voice" part. Boosted in the 1-5k range, cut other freqs.

This is a very good idea. There are lots of repeating patterns in the sounds, and this apparent "voice" (if we're not space-crazy) was at a pretty low freq.

It's possible that other things may have been scattered through multiple bands.

Kill everything above 16khz.

Agreed, it does seem to be longer in that clip. I think this chittering is very important though, lots of people have been focussing on the tuba binary code and maybe ignored these other parts which might unlock everything.

Is it possible to transmit the sound back at the UA? Im no sound techie but have people who know more searched above and below human hearing frequencies for other inaudible sounds?

This one is taken with the debug cam BUT I can hear clearly radio chatter.

My audio snippet is from digiscream's video, which was taken in deep space. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y2FQzPIZqms

This one is out in deep space but it features ships noises like the scanner pulses and other random noises the ship makes.

There really needs to be a good sample taken in deep space away from planet, stars, and stations outside the ship not pointing to the galactic core or any area of "interest" in order to be as a clean signal you can get.

Understood, but this particular sample is in the same place, over different recordings, from different users. From this evidence alone it's highly unlikely to be outside interference, but is in fact a key part of the Artefact's song.

And it looks as though it ties in with visuals aswell. The artefact lights up when it gives out the whale growl as though it's starting a long distance call, then it stays lit up whilst we get this chittering sound which appears now to be longer in some of the clips we have. When the chittering ends, the lights power down and then we get the sequence of high and low tuba noises. It then seems to repeat this process.

I

Not to be that guy... and I'm really against cheating... but wouldn't the only way to get perfect audio is from the game files themselves? either we accept cheating or we accept that background noise is going to be inherent in all recordings. Personally, I'm taking a week off from elite haha good luck chaps I'm starting to think there's nothing there. FDEV did say that thargoids were going to be a background encounter at first and I'd say this whole thing is pretty damn background.

I really hope to be proved wrong

I wouldn't condone such an approach, FDEV have said themselves that they don't want us dissecting the Game Files.

Nobody likes short-cuts when there is a view this pretty to be had :)

I only just noticed it for the first time... there's a regular sound like a cicada buzzing underneath the chitters. Both stop just as the "tuba" purrs start and the lights go out.

Good spot - it's definitely different.

Does anyone know anything else about this video? We need to isolate the differences between the recordings so that we can replicate the different sequences.

I took it 20km outside of Melvill Gateway in 109 Virginis with my ship about 35m away while I was in debug cam.

Agree, could this be a higher frequency part of that message, can it be isolated?

It's possible the message (if it is that ) is scattered through multiple freqs, and combining a pitched-up with a pitched-down version could yield something.

Filtering out those ring-mod-like frequencies should be a task as well, if someone has the tools to pinpoint them and scrub them from the sample.

A commander called glynie has just posted an hours worth of sound recordings in a separate thread. Really good quality and minimal interference. Gold dust for the sound engineers here.
