I've joined the Python Club, good to be here

Python ship best ship. My son switched from a Clipper and loves it.

I stripped my Anaconda and refitted my Python in preperation for powerplay, and I realized immediately thereafter that the conda was a huge mistake.

Yep... me too. Quinvira yielded enough money for me to afford a generally C-classed Python with A-Class FSD and Distributor. It feels very good to look around in the cockpit and imagine to stand up and walk around in the ship. I'm also questioning myself about the next step in outfitting. So has anyone upgraded from C-Class Thrusters to A-Class Thrusters? Is the difference noteably?

The Python is so customisable, compared to a Vulture where you are really forced to min / max to get what you want out of it. Don't be worried to drop from class 7 to 6 on things like power and distro to save a bit of weight if you don't need the power. A 6A distro is within a shade of a 7C, plus saves you 40t in weight and increases FSD range.... Okay it costs 2Mcr more ;)

It is a lot harder to run out of power in a Python and the number of internal slots means you can trade 276t on medium pads and still play at the nav beacons at either end of your run.

...but i had to sell my Type 7, Vulture, Cobra and Asp to get it. I kept my beloved Eagle and Viper.

This thing is nuts! It's pitch it kinda slow but it packs a punch. Never had the pleasure of owning a pre-nerf Python.

Good to be in the "Club". 56 Mil is one hell of an joining fee.

56 million? In Zaonce they are 16% off. You'll even get a bit of money back if you sell yours and buy a fresh one there (remember to sell modules first for full refund). :)

You won't need the A class powerplant until you're trying to fit exotic weaponry and dual shield sell banks along with all the bells and whistles.
otherwise you can fit a very capable python with a C or B class easilly. It's got a lot of power overhead mostly because it doesn't have as many power sumps as other large reactor ships. It only has the 4 utility mounts so you've got a lot of spare power to play with.

I would always go for A-rated but lower class power plants over lower rated higher class ones, because the rating greatly affects the heat management. And you can really start a beginner's python build with an A5 power plant, eventually transition to A6, and the step to A7 is really the last upgrade you should do after everything else. you can easily get by with A6 by choosing a few more power-efficient modules (D-rated sensors and life support, pulse lasers instead of burst or beam, cannons instead of particle accelerators, etc).

I am strongly leaning towards gutting my 50/50 Conda into a trader and using all the shinies on a combat Python ready for 1.3... Either that or keep grinding to have enough to mad specc a Dback if they look nice.

I finally bit the bullet and sold my asp to upgrade to a python with the zaonce discount. At least I now have an Alioth permit so I could buy it back at 20% discount in the future (rather than the 10% i already had on it). So far so good - nice to start getting some profits in the 300k+ range (I still have a class 6 shield on it - not sure whether I want to run with a smaller one at present)

One day I might be able to afford some upgrades past D, but at least it keeps the jump range decent.

A 4A with a single A0 booster is stronger than a 6D.

Switching out a 16t bay for the upper 64t increases your cargo by more than 20% and only drops jump range from 15.5 to 14.7 :)

After flying it for about 3-4 in RES's, I'm getting the hang of it.
Yeah, B class distributor is all I can afford right now, I'm loving this thing. It's C/D rated atm, but even now, very formidable....vs NPC's that is....all NPC's

And who says that it doesn't sound nice, I read that somewhere. It sounds like Faulcon deLacy, solid. Actually sounds like a Cobra on steroids.

Congratulations and Welcome to the club!

I have about 200-250 hours into my Python and it's an absolute beauty of a ship.

My advice is this:

1. Kit Python for full trading to recoup some funds.
This thing hauls like crazy, honestly.

2. Then buy Shields --> Weapons --> Thrusters --> Whatever you please.
The 60-80 Million Cr. Python kit will melt Anacondas.
I go with A5 Shield, 2 LRG Beams, 2 MED Multi-Cannons, and 1 LRG Flak Cannon for when I get in close.

3. Fly sideways.
Use your lateral thrusters when you get in a fight. Up, down, strafe left, and strafe right, you know. You must do this in order to become a legend.

This is my advice.

$. Powerplay should be out soon, so go to your favorite station, take all of the 100,000+ Cr. bounties, go kill the guy and make $$$
$2. Go to Conflict Zones in your favorite system, press 4, go to Functions and choose your favorite faction, kill, and make REP$REP$REP$

Here's what I've specced out as my Powerplay Python:

I think it's one of the better true multi-purpose loadouts for a Python; up to 24ly jump range (depending on tank), high damage output, good shields, good cargo capacity. I have no problems with this in RES or doing bounty hunter missions.

Wait, you CAN boost with a 6A distributor? I always thought lower class distributors would not allow boost.

I'm planning the setup I will use in the followup Quivira CG, with some 25ish million to spend on outfitting (already have the ship and 5A FSD). Is this setup viable for combat (in solo)? I have not decided about the class 2 hardpoints, but I like railguns.

Great advice guys, thanks heaps.... IronLich, you're a nutter ;)

I dunno why, but I hate going back to re-arm.....all my armament are Lasers :) Love it

Welcome! I recently joined myself. I had a little more of an upgrade budget and I can recommend the thrusters, they make a big difference.

Good luck and safe flying out there.

When you go to outfitting if you try and buy something too small, like a 2A for a Conda, it will give you a red text warning saying the module will not allow you to boost. Similarly a lower sized Power Plant might tell you that you have reduced power by 98% or something silly :) Buying downsized modules is almost a necessity for a new 'Conda pilot, unless you could handle the L9 grind to make a big stash before upgrading :)

No way. I'm the best friend you've ever had, you've just been unawares all...this...time.

ALSO...
Can we start a micro discussion about the scumbags out there claiming the Fer-De-Lance to be a superior ship to the Python?

I mean, it's ridiculous, right? The 'Thon looks like a bunch of guns powered by a Ferrari.

The FDL looks like a drab Oldsmobile with a cannon underneath, pointed straight at the cockpit.
It's gross...really.

Of the two, the Python isn't the one that looks more like a Ferrari. The only thing luxurious about the Python is that the station actually valets them, unlike Faulcon deLacy's smaller ships.

The Fer deLance looks are classic; the soul of spaceflight. Sure, it has a jump range just higher than an Orbit shuttle, and it goes wrong all the time, and the handling is a bit dodgy, but you can't call yourself a real Spaceflight-head without having owned a Zorgon Peterson.

The Python is a workhorse, and ultimately the more practical ship, but it doesn't have the passion ZPG engineers put into their ships.

Would anyone like to 'lend' me ~50m CR, so I too could be offended at how ugly and inferior a FdL is?

This statement in no way excludes me from the Python owners club. I reserve the right to continue docking very badly and trading items no one wants, in my spanking new Python.
