Oh, I am so sad right now... I finally finished my video, uploaded it to YouTube, clicked the link to watch it... Only to find that the entire video was muted because a certain band haven't allowed YouTube to license their music.
Fortuitously however, a more reasonable band have covered the track in question, and the timings are close enough that I've managed to prod the clips into submission. (Also, it actually doesn't sound half bad!)

Watch this space... :D

*watches intently*

Maybe I shouldn't have said that, I'm only halfway through doing a test render... :p

(Also, I'd like EZ to have a look over it before I put it public, don't want to besmirch his good name! :D)

Not to steal from ya, Alot, but...

Go ahead. Besmirch away. ;) Can't wait to see it!

And apologies to the finishers today but there may not be an update to the Big Board... There's this little movie called "Mad Max: Fury Road" opening tonight, and I've been waiting for 30 years for George Miller to make up for "Beyond Thunderdome." (Though to be fair, "Babe" is a pretty legit flick. But it had a severe lack of V8 Interceptors.)

Lessons learned a few thousand light years from home are the best lessons, aren't they? As for the Heat Sinks, I've never actually needed them myself. However, if you happen to jump into a binary star system and land pretty much right inside another sun, they're apparently the difference between getting out with a battered ship and a spontaneous cremation. So, you've got to ask yourself one question: Do I feel lucky?

Yeah I took heat sinks along because I wanted to explore the other side of Sag A* when I'm done with the race. And good thing too cuz I needed to use 'em. You can see my harrowing escape in a trinary system in this very thread.

Was too bad too.. I only managed to get around 31,000 LY from Sol before that happened and had to turn back. Now I'm maybe 8,000 LY from home. Should be home by this weekend :p

..got what appears to be a render bug or something on the way back. The mainstar's a black hole and all the planets in the system are perfectly dark, blank spheres, even when looked at from supercruise.. I've also had looong loading times writing a comment on someones steam screenie, but don't know if it's related or just coincidence.

What do ya think? Worth a bugreport or shall I just shrug it off, because of internet connection issues?

Actually I think it is FD's attention to detail rather than a bug. If there are no stars in a system, there'd be no light. No light means black thingies on your system map :) I'd say that was a nice touch of detail.

Im with you on this fox, when I first saw one I whelped with joy thinking I was rich.. 30 black holes .. orbiting one another .. im rich.. rich I tells ya.. mwahahaha.. oh.. its just dark.

Brace yourselves for Discount AC/DC...

Alrighty then! Without further ado... :D

The Good, The Bad and The Bucky: Highlights from the Buckyball Run

Massive thanks to everyone who helped out with footage or other assistance; special mentions have to go to...
 • Kligg for helping me capture the last little bits of footage I needed before I bombed off to A* the next morning
 • Rankaze for furnishing me with a wonderful variety of clips, many of which included his fantastic chuckling (seriously, it killed me to have to remove those audio tracks, I wanted to keep them in somehow but I couldn't find a way to make it fit)
 • Iron Lich, Ekol Tieja and Takaru Minari, for taking time out at the core to grab some video for me

Finally, as always, a huge thanks to ElectricZ and Bucky for continuing to organise and run these. Right on, CMDR. :)

Brilliant work putting this together. And you were right, the discount AC/DC actually did sound pretty good. Nice timing on some of those clips with the lyrics, too. "Watch me explode," indeed, heheheh.

As for the chuckling (and occasionally cackling, too) what can I say? I love me some Buckyball. The mayhem is just part of the fun. :) I'm sure some of it will make an appearance fairly soon when I get around to putting together my BBR7 blooper reel (as you've seen, I have no shortage of bloopers!). I'm not pro enough to set music tg my own videos just yet, after all.

Again, great work on this, and thanks for putting it together.

Can we have the "Behind The Scenes" reel where the chuckling is intact?

Oh jeebs, I made the cut!

What an unbearably prestigious honour. I am humbled.

Mmmm, nice.

Thanks very much for the kind words, everyone! :)

You've got me intrigued. Requesting a short compilation vid of chuckling.

I think since they are Rankaze's clips after all, you might have to wait for ...

Sheez - I go AFK for a couple of days and look what happens!

First up, there's CMDR Michey in the Cobra Easy Living, who due to a bizzare technical malfunction of the leaderboard display panel (and totally not a mistake of the race staff) did not have his triumphant time on display! Congratulations to Michey for setting a new record in the Cobra at 30 hours, 6 minutes and 41 seconds - beating the old record held by Tuna Mage by just shy of an hour. Sorry, Tuna!

To be fair to Bucky, while he did agree to keep any better Cobra times than mine off the leaderboard in return for 20% of my exploration earnings on the Sag A run, he didn't say it would only be for a week. I knew in the back of my head I should have upped it to 40% for a more permanent "leaderboard malfunction". Ahh well, my bad... ::rolleyes:

Anyway, congrats and very well done Michey :) - its good to see the Cobra pilots getting in the thick of it. I'm almost inspired to try the run in my cobra again..... (almost.)

Well that was a weird journey for me. Manually plotting made me insane in last 1.500ly to the core and took way too much time.

I had only two accidents when I bumped around in a trinary system by mistake and crashed into a coronal mass ejection later. It brought my hull and power plant down to 94%.

It's very useful just to undisplay all the not scoopable stars on the galaxy map, but I didn't expect it's still possible to meet a unscoopable star though. There was a T Tauri star which counts to the M star class but it's not scoopable and I was lucky that I had enough fuel left to proceed to another star. After this situation I only traveled 80 of max range 90ly per full fuel for safety issues. I met no souls in or next to the core so far.

Travelling with max jump range of 25ly was not that comfortable and so my total time isn't very nice either but I still had fun. Now there is the way back and I expect this will take forever.

Here some screenshots and I took the liberty to add advertisement for the race in my video description too, hopefully it will attract some more challenge maniacs

You'll always pop out at the largest star in a system so if there's a T and an M you'll arrive at the T. So you'll have to fly to the M to scoop it.

And the plotter will still take you to systems you have turned off, though it seems to prefer ones that are on
