Congratulations to Darayavahush, love the flight log (I see each row is approx. 1000ly, do they reflect your auto-plotted jump routes?) and also the screenshots but ...
Thank you.
Yes, each row is a stage, so as I have used for the nav. To have the stage targets in the Excel spreadsheet had the advantage that I could quickly continue the route when I had to choose the next star manually.

By the way, I believe the nav try to troll me in the third quarter. He often chose unscoopable stars for the route, although millions of scoopable stars were all around.

... you appear to have damaged Kraftwerk, was it Ralf or Florian that got injured? (sorry, couldn't resist it).
Not seriously. They are just a little tired of playing all the time. ;)

Man, I just can't bring myself to fly back all the way. I'm still with Sadge and have no motivation to get all the 26.000ly behind me again. What about a race back? That's the kind of motivation that will help... in addition, I swear yesterday Sadge whispered through the silence to me: "Hey Sym... you don't have to. Just fly into me... I will teleport you to Lomas Orbiter instantly... believe me!"

Haha... I had exactly the same. I ended up resolving to be the A* welcoming barge for a few days.
I'm well on my way now though, only 12k left!

As well as stalking unsuspecting sidewinders :p

Like I said though, it may have just been me. The browser on my phone gets lazy sometimes and just refuses to open sites.

I'm 416Ly from Human occupied space now, limping at a full sprint. I'll be pulling into dock with 25% hull health and a cargo-hold loaded to the brim with urine and feces jars. I sure hope my thrusters malfunction(some more) and send me crashing into the side of the outpost. That would be great...

COMING SOON!!!
New products from LironIch Industries.

IronLich's Miracle Stem-Cell Dark Vinegar Elixir.

IronLich's All-in-One Magical Mushroom Compost Kit.

Time to enter an interest:

Ship Name: G-SINK
Ship Type: Asp

Hope to find a spare 24 hours in the next 4 - 6 weeks to post a time.

So... the exploration data took 6 to 7 hours to sell, including me moving on to a new system each time the current system becomes "ALLIED"...I've managed to become allied with around 5 or 6 systems just by selling data to them.. :D

In total I got like 45 mill for the data... which is kinda interesting because now I bought an Asp with that money... so I dunno if I'm gonna "follow the crowd" and race an Asp to Sadge, or stick with my original plan and run the Vulture up there instead....

Not bad ... Was that exploration data the result of a leisurely trip back from Sag A with a detailed surface scanner? (only that's what I'm planning to do and I did wonder how much I'd be likely to earn from that).

Yes I had a detailed scanner. In the beginning it was VERY leisurely, until I got hit by that trinary system. Then it was more hurried - jump/ping and maybe scan a few interesting looking things. Sometimes I deviated slightly for Neutron Star fields or Black holes, but more or less I was heading in a straight line back home.

By the time I was 5,000 LY from home I was in Buckyball mode, jump/ping all the way home, no scanning. By this time tho, you start to see systems with "First discovered by...." anyway :)

The return journey is certainly much harder than racing out there.

I recognise the feeling...

I reached halfway home earlier today, having been slowly scanning along the way (5 earth-likes so far...). Now I've started just sprinting as I want to get home :).

The sad thing is, part of the reason for wanting to get back is to get an Asp and have another go!

Dim the Lights, Time for the Slides
I've created an album of the coolest shots from my trip out and back, but I'm going to highlight a few fun things below.

The best part of going out was finding Earth Like Worlds
PvAj2Xa.png

The worst part was taking an Anaconda and getting back to discover the repair cost was 26k CR
S1Y4j9n.png

Actually that's a lie, the absolute worst part was checking the repair screen and discovering the ship integrity repair cost was nearly 6 million CR
oHU0PVk.png

Another tip for the future is don't take vanity shots in a trinary system because you might have to exit the game to stop from exploding
3Dv1Skn.png

You can tell I'm a casual explorer because I took one look at this system and jumped right out

The first time THIS happened I nearly fell out of my chair

You get to see spectacular things out in the dark

When selling your data, spread it around to get some reputation - I managed to get this personalised invitation!

Lessons Learned
  • Take a much smaller ship
  • Take a smaller fuel tank
  • The D-rated modules are good for weight
  • But smaller class modules that are A-rated for weight and heat management
  • Take more Auto-Field Maintenance Units than you think you need
  • No, really, take a much smaller ship, that hull repair hurt
  • Equip some scanners and use them on the way back
  • Going out and back got me a lot of ranks in explorer and more than paid for the trip
  • The Buckyball Run A* event got me used to exploring in the same way that the BBR 5 got me used to docking
  • That is to say, slamming my ship frantically into the corona of stars in a desperate effort to make it to the next waypoint

Thank you to everyone who took part, and to my friends - including Commanders Alex Rider and Halo Jones - for chatting during the trip out and back. Time to get the Vulture out and cook some fools.

I'm atill about 17K from home, 8k out from Sag.

Halo Jones Keeps getting tempted with earth like worlds. Almost thinking of turning back to go look at the great annihilator.. This lil' Hauler is still at 93% hull.

Ahem. Yes I am aware of the Iron Lich effect... My next post may be less (Au)cocky

@Dean Smith

I assume that 6million integrity repair bill was for an Anaconda?

Edit: never mind, just looked at your photo album.

Hello Cmdr

Cmdr Name: Emua
Ship: ASP
Ship Name: Le Cherche Voie

Depart : Wolf 359, Lomas Orbiter
Arrival : Sagittarius A *

Can someone give me any reason to fly back instead of just crashing into Sadge I am completely unmotivated and just depressively circling Sadge all the time help

I think it was said earlier in the thread that the scan data from just honk and run there and back gets about 12m credits.
Plus you save whatever the insurance cost of your ship is.
And if you go more slowly (and actually do some detailed scans), you get your name on a number of systems as "first discovered by" (plus more credits from Universal Cartographics).

If those aren't sufficient, then Sadge is calling...

EDIT: Oh, and bragging rights. Mustn't forget the bragging rights :)

A certain texan ranger would probably just say "for the damn glory" but if you don't subscribe to that point of view then how about in order to see some wonders and to make a small fortune in exploration data (and raise your exploration rank a notch or two) while doing so which you can spread around when you get back in order to earn reputation with numerous different factions?
