Ships The Diamondback is Forthcoming - Time to be EXCITED!?

Ugly. My guess it is another troop carrier.

We already know this isn't true.

I've thought a LOT about this ship. Here are my predictions/realistic hopes for the Diamondback:

-30.000.000+ Cr. price-tag.
-40-45Ly max jump range, 28-32Ly range with weapons equipped.
-4 Medium weapon mounts and 1 Large mount. Or, 2 Med. and 2 Lrg.
-4 Utility slots.
-5-6 Internals slots.
-...
...I'll add more as I think of them.

Nice humble brag about being a notorious pirate, BTW. We get it already for Gord's sake! :p

I think that releasing The Diamondback alongside the Imperial Courier is actually a super good thing. The fans of shiny, sleek, Star Trek looking ships can monk it over the IC, whilst the rest of us
(with souls) can pine for the DB. I like threads arguing about which ship looks better. They are always so fun and lighthearted. We need more of that in the forums.

I seriously doubt your predictions will be near to the truth. It's supposed to be "reasonably priced", which can't be 30m given the Vulture initially sold at 22m and everyone went mad.

And therefore, it's not likely to smash both the Annie and the Asp exploration and smash the Asp in combat as well.

It'll either be better at exploring or combat over the Asp. I'm guessing the latter. And, either way, it'll have the same power management limitations as the combat focused ships.

My guess is it'll have a jump range just less than the Asp but will pack better weapons. This would make it the longest range fighter ship in the game. But not the best fighter and not the best explorer. What I seriously doubt is it will match the "light weight" Asp for jump range whilst carrying a full pay load.

I think the best you could hope for is 25ly with a fully armed pay load. 30ly without. And I'm going to say no more than 1 large and three medium weapons. This isn't going to pack similar weapons to an fdl. I think it'll be similar to the vulture, but less agility.

I think it's the interdiction/wake scanner ship so many wanted the fdl to be. But it probably won't be fast.

In other words a solid cg hunting ship. The kind that can make the slog between empire, federation, and Alliance space in a reasonable time frame and still fight it out or haul goods.

Yes. Except for the haul goods part. The fighter part of its role almost guarantees the same module space limitations of the other dedicated fighters, perhaps a little less so.

It won't be capable of decent trade. But will probably do for mission running.

Agreed, and I sincerely wish for the specs you listed to come true.

I've more wondered why people think an exploration ship doesn't need combat capabilities.

Because in ED you can explore during 12 months without meeting anyone. Elite explorer here, only met *one* player ship once (in Sag A). Aside from that, not a soul.
Combat exploring vessel ? OK if we have something to shoot at in deep space. Do we in 1.3 ?

nice post, glad to see someone as impatient as me, i'm waiting for the Combat/Explorer type of ship since beta.

that's the perfect stats for me:

Price: 15 millions (around 45 millions fully equiped)
Mass: 260t (ASP is 280t)

Shield: 200 (between vulture and asp)
Armor: 180
Landing Pad: Medium

Speed: 280 (can reach 310 max)
Boost: 360 (can reach 400 max)
Agility: 6

Jump range: 23Ly (combat) to 27Ly (explorer)
Fuel tank: 32t
Hardpoints: 1 big, 2 medium, 2 small
Utility mounts: 4

Internals: 5, 5, 3, 3, 3, 1, 1
Cargo (no-shield): 92t max

The Lakon Diamondback can be considered expensive for it's size but also reasonably priced once you see how balanced it is overall. Perfect for Combat/explorers, it can also be turned into any profession but won't be anywhere as good an ASP for exploring or a T7 for trading.
Bounty hunters, pirates and miners especially likes the Diamondback for its good mobility to travel around the universe and still be able to pack a good punch and some cargo.

lower the price so maybe 1-3mil or 8-15mil and i'd be happy though i think it might be closer to 1mil.

If they lower the price they need to do something about the cash curve :/ 1mil means it has to be substantially better at something than the current ship lineup or it will have no purpose, which means lots of cargo (T6) incredibly high speed (cobra) fantastic shielding/size (Viper) etc etc, it just runs out of niches to fill :(

if it is less that 5 millions i fear it's gonna be useless me to, we already got the almighty Cobra/Asp who can do everything very good so yea i prefer around 8-25 millions and bring something to the table

Look. Here:

10-30 mil price range, expected value around 20 mil.

Class 4 FSD. Between type 6 and viper in hull mass (around 100). 16 T tank. Class 5 scoop, another maybe class 4 compartment, rest will be 1s and 2s. Something like 4 class 2 hardpoints. Maneuverability 6 or 7. Medium pad.

Less maneuverable vulture with likely weaker shields, but bigger range. Stripped down will outjump the asp, but have a smaller base tank (only 5 jumps per tank vs asp's 6).

Personally, I'm not particularly excited about the diamond back,
Firstly, the asp at a mere 6 mil basic isn't expensive and is an excellent explorer ship, the cobra is also a decent explorer at a mere couple mil fully kitted for exploration, both pack enough punch and speed to hold their own or at least run away relatively safely from combat. And for the explorer on a real tight budget, there's the hauler, it might be made of tinfoil and a tionsilian mosquito could pierce the hull, and it couldn't fight off a cold with a hold full of corvornia but again, if your exploring, it will do the job nicely on a tight budget.
Put simply, I don't see what gap in the shipyard infrastructure it is designed to fill unless it really excelles at something.

Listed as a combat explorer however, it could be a vulture, or maybe a viper with a decent jump range. But this would likely largely make its combat counterpart largely obsolete.

Personally I think they would be far better closing the holes in the 20 to 60 million range in the lineup.

price is to high for these stats, i expect/hope better
