One of the main reasons I'm a defector

Call me a grumpy stick in the mud.. but can we just talk about Elite on these forums?

I've no particular problem with there being a game called SC. However, I am not going to sugar coat this.. I don't like Roberts.. I find him obnoxious and arrogant and he strikes me as a used car salesman.. I am not interested in his games. If I was I would go to the SC forums and talk about it there.

Why the endless requirement to raise that game here? There is a thread in the offtopic section where people can talk about it to their hearts content.

;)

I agree, we should stop talking about Star Citizen and giving Chris Robert any further exposure. I'm a defector also and what let me down is the inconsistency of the team (design choices) and the outsourcing of so many aspects of the game to random cheap development houses. The lies and false promises aren't helping either. His excuse letter for not releasing the Dog fighting module is full of little lies and half truths, especially the timing of it. He knew full well, months in advance it wasn't going to be possible but kept milking the community for every cent they have.

It did read like 'the dog ate my homework' sort of thing and I don't really like his bravado and sales man patter but that's his big pitch (and American's do this in a different way to the English, just culture to me) - so fair play. But it's worth watching the three way interview with him and Braben, he comes across as ok.

I played the dudes games back in the 90s which were quite fun so I've backed the game as it's cheap if you go for the worst ship and it will be a nice surprise somewhere in the distant future. And I can pretty much forget about it till then. I'm a bit whatever about it but it will be a good game to play I think.

But I am really really excited about Elite. It's just that simple. Oh, it helps it's coming sooner.

You're a grumpy stick in the mud! However, I don't see why we don't just do as the SC forums have and stick all SC related threads in to one mega thread. Works well over there for elite, and certainly makes for a more focussed forum as you point out!

It was an interesting choice for sure.

I agree that all the SC discussion should probably go into Off Topic. I also think that SC gets more of a bad rap than it deserves round these here parts, but that's just me. :p

Elite used to get a bad rap over there, that changed when the alpha came out. If they put out a good dogfighting module then all will be well :)

Ya i've been a backer of sc since it was announced and a active forum member. I'm new here and this is my first post but have been keeping up with most of you for over a month or so. Ill be honest this group of people on this forum have me so much more excited about elite than i have ever been about star citizen. This community in contrast to sc's community is amazing. Much more mature over here and makes me that much more excited to play elites multiplayer just for that fact.

I really wish people would stop with all the national stereotyping. Don't you think it's a bit unseemly? I'm sorry to have (unintentionally) started it.
I'm a Brit living in the US, and for the most part I think it's great. The people I've met are a world away from the clueless tourists antagonizing their way around Europe :). Of course, it might help that I live in Cambridge, MA- home of Harvard and MIT :p!

I've spent a little while over at the other forum, and seeing what SC is all about. I have nothing but good will toward them, but I saw some very scary videos in the last couple of days. First there was one where Chris was showing off the high polygon counts of all the characters and ships... impressive, but it seems an odd priority to have. Then I saw a video of a guy running the hangar with a Constellation and a fighter. This guy had a GTX770 (I'm not sure exactly what that means, but sounds better and newer than my 660, and costs $400); he was getting 15 frames per second!

Also, I personally find the SC ships pretty bland and ugly. If there was a choice between looking at a 20 megapixel picture of a toilet and a 200x300 picture of say Christina Hendrix, I know which I would choose.

I'm a ways from Massachusetts, but we're pretty good people even out here in the southwest. ;)

So I'm guessing you're not dealing with this ridiculous snow :D? Yeah as far as I can remember off the top of my head, I've liked everywhere I've been in the US.

I can send you some of the cold weather from Manitoba if you'd like... temps in these parts average -25c/-32c with wind factors of up to minus 40c right now. You'd probably prefer the snow :)

Lesse.... it's 70F/21C right now with sunny skies.... Nah, I'm good. :D

The GTX 770 is (ball-park) equivalent to a GTX 680, with the 770 being slightly better.

It's one of my main concerns for SC and why I posted earlier about the risks of SC constantly chasing technology. It's been rather settling to observe the breadth of systems that can handle the ED Alpha (at least so far).

You haven't been to Indiana yet :D

I understand your point, but I have to say. The ships are very cool. My wife and I both have hangars, and although I haven't been in mine lately, getting in and out of some of them, and the cockpits are pretty nice.

My wife was born and raised in Anchorage, Alaska. I also have a brother and sister that live there still. I've been there in the summer but not in the winter. Sounds like Manitoba is about as cold.

Yeah, I thought the interiors were very impressive (if not quite to my taste) and the fact that you can have other players onboard your ship is pretty amazing, especially given that they get to run up or down into turrets, or fly a mini fighter :D

Heck, at this rate I'll probably have an actual opinion on Yorkshire puddings before too long! lol.

Belated, but you if you know popovers, then Yorkshires are pretty close. Savory. Drowned in gravy. etc. If you have roast potatoes, some leafy greens and Yorkshires, then you have a proper Sunday dinner. Everything else is optional. :)

I remember well the meatless Sunday roasts of my student days.
