ED Community

WOW I must say I have been active for 48 hours and I am very impressed by the community. Everyone seems polite and Professional.

Welcome to the party Intel.

The thing with forums is they can reach a tipping point in terms of numbers accessing & posting - where decent conversation becomes difficult due to the 'noise'. The guys running the SC forums are attempting to implement better rules for everyone, and hopefully this will start having a positive effect soon.

Firstly welcome aboard. Its great that you find the forums a friendly place. For a lot of the backers myself included Elite is beyond a game; for many of us it was a game we played for longer than any other game we have played before or after and we want others to have that experience and memory.

I suspect it is related to the age profile of the Elite: Dangerous backers. Many of us are here because we played the original Elite in the mid 1980s and have since grown up. ish.

The Frontier forum has always been a welcoming place even during the "dark days" before the kickstarter. ;)

I agree with others thoughts that it's partly due to the bulk of forum posters are in the 40+ age bracket. This does not however take anything away from our younger members who are just as excited as us old'uns about the game, (Although they probably don't need the quick lie down we do when the blood pressure rises;) and have made fantastic contributions to the forum.

The forum has grown experientially over the last 12 months, and it's become a vibrant, fun and exciting place to visit. Because of this we hope that new forum members will browse the various sections and are encouraged to join and contribute to the general friendly and welcoming feeling created by you 'orrible lot. :D

This "good community" is what will help the game be the massive success I believe it will become. People will see the community and think "Thats a forum where I wont be shouted down or ridiculed for asking questions. (Although you could all use the search function a bit more you know.)

This hopefully will translate into the game as they will feel that the forum's spirit will continue ingame.

So with any forum, it's only as good as the people who contribute, so well done you the lot of you. :D (Search function, use it.;))

Right on Commanders. :D

There is one exception however....

One fly in the ointment...

One pimple on the backside of life....

The more I think about it the more suspicious I get about that Susan Boils, I mean she doesn't even have a account but hijacks a poor deluded onsie wearing simpleton's account to screech her insane warbling singing and flaunt her highly suspect wig. I feel a mad moderating banhammer session in the offing. ;)

P.s did I mention the search function?

This community is far better then community I have seen in Star Citizen Forums since day one. People are just criticizing each other for even making thread or asking questions. If someone start a thread, there is always someone who rush in and post a stupid comment to discredit entire conversation or discussion. There is a lot of friction between each other in Star Citizen forums. And Moderators are among one of them who like to join these groups. If you not a backer you will be attacked by everyone including moderators. It seems lower class trolls from EVE ONLINE have already infiltrated Star Citizen or maybe they are just kids because everyone can get into alpha/beta/game by paying $30.

But I really appreciated the feedback I have gotten so far and type of feedback I have seen on other threads in our Community.

It's very sad that most online video-gaming experiences are ruined by trolls (including forums about video-games !)

I think Elite is, and has always been, a game for astronomy lovers. Further more, there is a sort of poetry in this game, which is the one where you can the most feel the hugeness and lonesomeness of deep space.

I fear that Eve online is full of players who just want shooting each other...

This indeed. Would love to see the average demographics for ED backers.

I'm picturing a 40-something tech specialist or middle-manager.

Really shouldn't leave that mirror next to my monitors.

Well guessed, a 40 year old here.

I can still fondly remember as an 11 year old, slipping the elite function key strip under the plastic cover on my BBC model B.

I could only dream of a BBC B, my parents bought us a Dragon 32 so I had to pop round my mate's house to play Elite.

And I had to wait for my kid brother to go out before I could play Frontier on his Atari ST.

This time around, the PC is all mine and I can play ED whenever I want!

As long as the wife says so, anyways.

That was always it for me, that breathtaking sense of scale and insignificance you get from being in a tiny ship in a vast universe. Eve never did it for me because of the jumpgates and miniature planets, and nothing really being different from system to system (which was OK in 1984 but there's no excuse for it today).

I have to ask though, what the hell are you wearing in your avatar pic?!

It's my favorite Giraffe suit... This is the one i wear each time i play Elite.

Very effective against bounty hunters and black fat felines from Ensoreus :)

Favourite? you mean you have more than one of them.

Also who cares what people post, never got this "good community - bad community" talks. The only thing that counts is will the game be good enough and makes enough profit or not.

This may have been true with the old model of publisher funding but now it is absolutely essential a project has a great community behind it. The community is an extension of the core team these days and provides invaluable feedback, ideas and support.

The other factor is the morale and confidence a core team gets when they have total backing like this. This is where SC is facing major challenges and it's certainly going to affect the finished quality of the two games.

Welcome aboard, we're a lovely bunch as you've already said and we enjoy the banter, fun and downright silliness (Psykokow we're looking at you at this point ;))

As others have said, we're in a forum where the average forumite is that little bit older and, of course, there's a large British/British Influenced contingent which helps keep things understated and polite (except where Guilds, Onesies and Susan Boils come into view)....

There are of course some characters in here that you should be wary of...

If you ever post a pic of yourself be aware that you may well get photoshopped by Mobius. :D

Don't ever mention Onesies in any thread that Psykokow has been involved in... He'll start salivating and regaling you with his Onesie experiences.... It's not a pretty sight.... really.. it isn't... :D:eek:

The FD team are a great bunch and regularly post in here and join in the fun (it's probably not going to help their sanity but don't tell them that!)

Above all whatever you do, you must worship the Rock... the mighty and all-powerful....

Finally, beware of obsessives... there's a few on here (see exhibit A below).... :D:D:D

Although you could all use the search function a bit more you know.

Search function, use it.;)

P.s did I mention the search function?

Search function? Wassat? Oh, you use it to find out about the Great and Powerful Rock? Oh... OK... :D

Why are you spamming us with the search function thing? :p

+1 for this Sirrah! :D

There was a poll asking this very question a while back but I can't find it. At the time, it was definitely 40+ majority I think.

Have you considered using the search function? There's one somewhere around apparently....
