Ships Diamondback: My new favorite ship.

Self directed rhetoric? Lol, a viper/cobra not viable in pvp? You obviously have all the answers.....

as much as I like the adder the cockpit is horrible,<< see subjective.

I just prefer facts based honesty and dry eyed comparison whenever possible. Glad you like the ship. You seem to be in the minority in this opinion. I will test one out when it goes live, and hope that the whole is greater than the sum of the parts.

The visibility on the adder is horrible, but the cockpit itself is very Trekkie, so I actually like it a lot.

The maneuverability is a typo, according to everyone who has flown one. People are saying it's extremely maneuverable.

I think the disappointment may be mainly with the title they gave it. I'm excited about it because I was looking for a ship similar to a Viper with longer range, which seems to be what it is. People who were looking for an explorer that could fit weapons and handle itself in a fight are the ones disappointed, which seems to be justified in that sense.

I was one of the ones looking for an explorer that could fight. Having watched a few videos, it doesn't seem to have very good maneuverability at all. Maybe compared to a Viper or a Cobra, but that is a low bar. A Vulture Eagle or Adder would fly circles around it. I imagine the SC maneuverability might be OK given the mass.

Nerf? Are you joking? If it can't fight, trade, or explore, then they might as well delete it.

OP sez: "It's faster than a viper way more manuverable than a cobra and has perfect hard point placement and an open cockpit. 23ly fully armed."

Now from our experiences with beta testing ships before, what can we expect? Yes, the nerfening will come.

Oh wow, if they actually nerf this wet blanket of a ship, the incoming nerd rage storm will be unprecedented.

It's extremly agile, feels fast and turns on a dime - a pur joy to dance around the asteroids and Pythons. Don't know how long the shields really last, as nobody has hit me yet. :) And 25 ly isn't that bad.

Sigh I wish people would stop talking about the range. It's the scoop and lack of modules that's the problem. 29ly is plenty. I mean I wish it were more, but FD hates fun, so..

If you don't explore seriously, please stop talking about the diamondback, you probably don't understand what makes a ship crap for exploration.

Poster below me is a good example.

i think it's a good middle ground between a viper and a cobra, it has every advantages of these ships except the internals

all in all, it's exactly what they announced, a "combat/explorer ship"

QFT. Not to hurt anyone's feelings, but the Cobra\Viper class of ship is but a short way station before the more worthy ships in th 5-6 Million range.

Puca, any idea how long the refuel time is after a max range jump with a class 3 Fuel Scoop?

around 5-7 seconds

Let's see. Filling 16 T with a 3A scoop takes 90 seconds. A single max range jump with a 4A FSD takes 3T. So it will take ~ 16.8 seconds with a 3A scoop. In comparison, it takes a cobra ~ 8.6 seconds, and a type 6 ~ 5 seconds. So the diamondback is literally 3 times as slow as a type 6 (a pure trade ship) at scooping, and has shorter jump range.

Above poster is factually wrong, btw.

That makes my FdL look like a better exploration ship! ...if all I'm doing is system hopping, not distance hopping, which is what the DB seems (badly) designed for.

doesn't seem right to me, filling 16t with A3 takes 46 seconds, the class 4 FSD consume 3T if your ship is 525t, so around 2t for the diamondback:

single jump fuel scoop (in seconds) = 46 / (16/2)
= 46 / 8
= 5.75

5.75 seconds

tell me if i'm wrong

EDIT: my bad, i did the math with a A4 fuel scoop ><

My theory is they didn't want to give the diamondback a class 4 module (which is what it needs for the right sized scoop) because class 4 shields would be too good for it. But they should still do it, and just nerf the hull shield coefficient to compensate. Here's hoping they don't dismiss "theorycrafter feedback" out of hand.

I hope some dev is reading this.

so your basing its ability to explore based solely on fuel scooping?

wait wait wait your in all the db threads talkin about how it sucks and you haven't flown it? Sweet baby Jesus!

Also on the fact it can't fit both shields and AFMU. Also on the fact a pure trader in its price bracket outranges it. Fuel scooping speed is almost as important as range for explorers. Obviously you can explore in any ship -- I know someone who went to Sag A* in an FDL. But just as jump range and cargo size is important for traders, fuel scooping speed, range and supercruise turning speed are important for explorers. Since the diamondback was advertised as a dual role combat/exploration ship, it is a reasonable supposition that it would have stats to support both roles. It does not -- it is really bad for exploration.

Do you explore, Mister5150? What's your exploration rank?
