Oh my! The great Erimus himself is honoring us with his presence! Good luck, sir!

Alec: It is getting quite crowded here now actually, so waiting for an additional camera team should be the least of our worries ;)

Thanks to these guys I have a near unlimited supply of Lavian Brandy! Joy!

Avoid... Most definitely avoid! By the time you're about 1500Ly out towards Sadge, you either want to be at least ~50Ly above the plane, or some amount below it (haven't done it personally so I dunno how far you need to go :D)

I'd recommend a bit more than 50. I was about 50 above and the route planner still meandered enough with my 34.95 LY jump range that I stumbled into the fringes of Aucoks.

EDIT: I have come to the conclusion that when using "fastest routes", the route planner is using a really bad algorithm. I think it is using "hop count" as its only metric, sort of like the IP routing protocol RIP.

I would think a hybrid hop count/distance metric would be better, possibly using something like Djikstra's algorithm (Shortest Path First), as used in the routing protocol OSPF (Open Shortest Path First).

Which is to say... if two routes have equal hop count, it should still use the one that covers less distance between the two.

I have this incessant urge to try to manually plot the fastest route to Sagittarius A*. Because I am convinced it is possible to build a faster route than anything the route planner would give you. But it would take weeks, and thankfully that is enough deterrent to keep me from actually trying it. So far.

Now, if I could somehow offload all the galactic topology data into some kind of database, it would be a fantastic challenge to write a program to do optimized long-distance route calculations! And that sounds like something I would enjoy.

Sigh... at 6,000 LY out, I got distracted for just a couple of seconds... and my Vulture got too close and dropped out.

Now 98% hull :( And I didn't even think about bringing AFMUs....

Oh yes, this is how high above Aucoks my original route on the Cobra was ... about 600 LY above...

And, that was why I never even knew about Aucoks until you guys ran headlog into it :D

I feel your pain. About half way there and I had a bit of an accident. I'd had a few scuffs but nothing serious until now. I had to go for a bio break and thought that I had slowed right down to 30km/s and set to scan the star while I was 'busy'. Got back to find that I hadn't slowed down enough, temperature going through the roof, sparks and smoke everywhere. End result is my hull down to 83% and my AFMUs three quarters used up and not everything essential at 100%

Completely bonkers idea. I'm in - have a day without the Mrs tomorrow and this seems like a good way to spend it!

Commander Name: Trofimov
Ship Name: Slight Mechanical Destruction
Ship Type: Anaconda.

I've never flown in Open before. It was always going to take something utterly crazy to suck me in!

Just a heads-up for any returning Buckyballers who are planning to sell off their exploration data... A new community goal just started up at Leoniceno Orbital in Azaleach, for selling exploration data to them! :)

EDIT: Looks like it's only running for 2 days, so you gotta go fast :D

In the interests of giving the new ships a proper try out in the only way we care about, I'm going to try re-running BBR7 in a Diamondback on the beta server. If anybody else with beta access is interested in doing similar (especially if you're running an Imperial Courier), let me know and I might set up an unofficial "Buckybeta Run" :).

Too bad I've already got plans for my data. Still got a whole bunch of permit-locked systems just waiting to be opened by strategic selling of exploration data after all.

But sheesh, I think I need to stop doing these Sadge Runs.
Last time I took the Undesided for a quick trip, that whole 78 Ursae Majoris Anti-Crime War broke out, this time the Federal President goes missing while I'm out in the black.
What's next, Interstellar War?

And, I made it back to Sol. My hull was at 97%, ship integrity at 15%. That was quite a trip.

I don't think it's possible in the Courier until they do something about the heat issues. Consistently fuel scooping safely in that ship is impossible.

BBR7 didn't need any scooping though. :D

I'd be up for this at weekend I think.

In the meantime I might try and make it to Azaleach in 48 hours. I've not left Sadge yet (haven't played since the selfies with Anuranium). It's such a long trip back!

Well, if we do a scramble run (BBR7 route or similar), no fuel scooping required :)

26:29 on my first BBR7 re-run, which isn't bad given how rusty I seem to be...

21 hours into the Orca run.
Currently about 3000 light years from Sadge which the local Defense Force reports to be clean of any unsavoury types. Thanks for the heads up!

Given the average speed I've been travelling, I'm looking at an arrival window three hours from now of approximately 23:00:00 to 23:30:00 Galactic Mean Time, assuming my plots resolve in due time.

Sounds like my trick - first time I went out, Ridley Scott station went and put on a Faulcon de Lacy discount, and the second time the aforementioned wars popped up a brief hop from my home system!

I must admit, the Diamondback definitely feels like it has promise in a BBR7-esque scramble race... I heard murmurs of "boosts to 430" somewhere or other and I'm guessing that wasn't from a fully Buckyball-specced ship.

Not many Haulers in this, might as well get my name up on that board.

Just got to make my way over to Wolf 359 and kit up for the jorney.

Woah was doing a big board update when I saw this... I'll hold off a bit because I know you Aucoks love waiting for me to post an update so you can slip in a time and try to make me bust out the ax handle.

By the way, Anuranium's picture of the Four Anacondamen of the Apocalypse is one of the most epic shots I've seen. o7

I noticed a couple unsavory looking types hanging around my house in a White Unmarked ZP Hauler this morning.
Was gravely concerned for my safety given some of the comments I may have made in passing about the Federation and/or Emperor.

Turns out it was just the Mailman in a White Ford Transit Van delivering this:

buckyball decal fridge.jpg

I decided to put it, not on the back of my Ute (Pick-Up), but instead some where I'll see it regularly.

Oh and here's a quick idea of the distances it's traveled.

Many Thanks CMDR ElecticZ, and to you too Bucky. For the wonderful event and Kick-Ass Bumper Sticker!

Sun Runner is back in the bubble! I had a couple of close calls on the way home, mostly through carelessness on my part though. At 5000ly out from Sol I glanced up to look for my next jump point and noticed a few minor cracks in the canopy  thankfully it held and I arrived with 94% Hull. I'm now selling data (30million credits and counting) and my Exploration rank has climbed to Ranger :D

I may have to do this again sometime!

I am mostly submitting pictures as of late, but this one in particular is one I always shall remember.
I believe it is historic:
