News Elite: Dangerous Steam Keys

Guys, i did not read all of the topic. Please give me some advice.

I logged in in my dashboard and cant find the "Partner Keys" icon\button\whatever.

Am i do something wrong? Or it just unavailable for now?

Was some clarification in this case from yesterday?

Negative. This is still hearsay based off of what some people interpreted from a developer's brief topic post, which didn't shed any definitive light in one direction or the other, apparently.

This, of course, will not stop people from proclaiming the statement you quoted as fact. There is no official word on the particulars concerning the financial agreements made between Frontier and Steam. I suspect Frontier is not terribly interested in sharing them.

The only certain thing is this:

Just enjoy the game, and fly safe Commanders!

Chrome seems to be unsupported at the time. [UPDATE: Chrome ended up working for this user, not Firefox] Try another browser. Some have suggested logging into Steam, via your browser FIRST, then logging into the Store page.

I hope this helps:

Once logged into the store here: https://store.elitedangerous.com/

I saw:

Account Dashboard
Account Information
Address Book
My Orders
My Wishlist
My Applications
Newsletter Subscriptions
My Downloadable Products
Store Credit
Partner Keys <------ This guy right here
Product Access Key

You'll likely be prompted to log into Steam at that point. Steam may or may not ask you to verify your machine via an email if it's not one Steam already recognizes (security). My Steam email confirmation took seconds. I was then redirected back to the Store page, where I got my activation key.

At that point, I inputed that activation key via Steams menu bar:

Games -> Activate a product on Steam...

and followed the prompts from there.

If that fails... try clearing out your cookies, and try again.

Hm, nobody is interested in financial agreements, nobody want to know 'how much'.

People just want to choose the most favorable for developer way of access the game. Steam give anything to game, so wil be better when all people payments will go directly to developer, without steam cut.

Clarification is answer for a question 'redeem a key or better not'. Everybody would like to know what they should do.

Agreed. All we can do is speculate. But being that Frontier does not seem terribly concerned in releasing that information to the community at large, the player base only has the option to choose what is best and most comfortable for them. As that each individual's decision doesn't seem to have enough of a significant impact to cause Frontier to release such information, it seems wise that each person should handle their individual keys as they deem best for themselves.

Support to Frontier can still be made directly via the EliteDangerous shop. The consensus by Steam users points towards that being the way of going around the middleman.

Wow. Thanks for sharing that! Chrome seemed to be the trouble maker for many, but it was the opposite for you. Good knowledge to share!

I have not yet claimed the key even though I would want to. I have a question first.

Will I be forced to buy the merchandise via the steam wallet if I will claim the key on steam? I would prefer buying it from FD shop as I do no like the steam wallet much, but I like the other things that steam can offer.

BTW to anyone having trouble finding the partner keys link, it appears to be down to cookies - I couldn't find the link (firefox), switched to IE (I hadn't logged into the store in IE before) and it was there, switched back to firefox and it still wasn't there - removed all elite dangerous cookies and the link appeared.

I bought elite through the store but don't have the partner link mentioned by the OP o_O. Can't find it anywhere.

I have or better said had the same problem. With FF 38.0.1 the partner keys entry is not shown. Used Chrome to login to the store and et voila, now I see the link. You might want to try it with a different browser also. Not sure what is causing it, haven't cleared my cache so far.

Agreed. I'm an alpha backer and have bought a further (circa) £75 of merchandise and skins through the store. If I move to steam will they get a cut of the £275 I've already given to FD? Or is it only future purchases?

Future purchases. If Frontier had somehow managed to negotiate a deal where they have to pay Valve 30% of all their sales to date, they've done something terribly, terribly wrong.

I'm happy to still own games which are not bound to some sort of DRM. I really don't understand the need for a steam key. I do feel like everything i got in my steam library is not really owned by myself. You never know what Valve is doing with their EULAs. Unless it is not gamebreaking, i wont submit to an additional layer of DRM. Seriously, why would someone would do something like this. I don't see any benefits from it, whether it is the overlay, playtime, exposure on friend list or anything else which basically can be done without steam. Still we thankfully do have a choice.

Cheers,

Since I've already backed the game and purchased the lifetime expansion set, I don't forsee many "future purchases", so the 10% lark isn't that much of interest to me.

Thanks for the key, it's good to be able to integrate the game into Steam, properly.

There is a slight quirk, in that it becomes essentially a second install of the game, so I now have two Elite Dangerous directories occupying 5 or so GB. Is there any game impact on removing the non-steam copy? I recall from previous threads where people have had upgrade issues it being stated not to uninstall as this has a server-side impact. (I don't see how, but I guess there could be interaction with an uninstall routine.)

Greetings Commanders

All EliteDangerous.com store players can now generate a Steam key to add it to their Steam library.

By generating a Steam key all future purchases made with your Frontier account will also be associated with your Steam account. This won't affect how much you pay for the game or for paint jobs, but sticking with the EliteDangerous.com store remains the best way to support ongoing development with 100 percent of your money on future purchases. We especially appreciate it when you buy direct from us, but we're happy for you to play how and where you like. Just enjoy the game, and fly safe Commanders!

Instructions to redeem:

Log into the Elite: Dangerous store.

Go to your account dashboard.

Click on ‘Partner Keys’

Click ‘Claim an Elite: Dangerous’ key.

You can redeem your code by selecting 'Games > Activate a Product On Steam' in the Steam UI.

Note: the key you generate will add Elite: Dangerous to any Steam library but WILL NOT grant access to the game without an existing registered Frontier account and copy of the game. For this reason, please don’t give your keys away to friends! They won’t be able to play without having already bought the game from Steam or the EliteDangerous.com store!

I tried this. There is no 'Partner Keys' on that page.

Ok has the whole steam thing been cleared up?

As I read it, if you purchase stuff on the store.elitedangerous website store, then frontier will gain 100% of the profit.

Only if you buy something through steam.elitedangerous.com, only then will steam take a cut?

Saw keys were available and added it but if steam takes cuts from anything bought on elitedangerous' store page, including merchandice, then I wonder how I can undo my mistake of linking steam and will gladly have the key removed as well.
