Something addictive about this, so I've bought an Adder, stripped the guts out of it and I'm off again. No shields or weapons (eek!!!), just hoping I make it. It took a week for me to get there in my trusty Asp 'Bessie' but I'm hoping to get there a bit sooner in the Adder 'Slinky'......

Supplies are loaded...
Beer....Check!
Lavian Brandy....Check!
Leestian Evil Juice....Check!
Kongga Ale....Check!

I know ElectricZ is out of comms range so as well as emailing I'll post the initial screenshots here, without further ado here's the details -

Time to go, I'll try and pull an all nighter but I doubt I'll stay awake so it my be a weekend thing :D

OK so me and a buddy will be setting off as a wing on Saturday at 6pm BST.

I anticipate a 2 weeks transit each way.

I have an Asp called - erm, Emily

Its pretty tedious selling the stuff...
Hahahahaha, if there ever were a first world problem! :D
But okay, we can then tell the next guy to prepare this race in three mostly equal steps: Getting there, getting back, selling the data.

Or just one step: Getting there, crash.

I'm pretty sure you could get at least another 2 Lightyears out of an Adder.. Anyways good luck! don't feed the Aucoks ;)
Probably, but it was a 'spur of the moment' thing, just bought it and striped it for max LY as best I could do at the time :)

Regarding the Aucoks, hmmm lets see......

Hahaha, wonderful timing from FD, picking the start of EZ's holiday to newsletter the Run. :D

Congrats Anuranium and Max Jacobs for making the newsletter! :D

Cheers mate!

Yeah, I agree the timing is hilarious, but boy will EZ be in for a suprise once he is within comms range again :D

On a side note: My watch has ended, and guard duty has been handed over to CMDR Metta. Please shower him with kind praises upon your visit.

I cannot leave without mentioning the support in the center of the galaxy: Me not included there has been: 6 Anaconda's, 9 Asps (German ED community: I love you guys!), 1 vulture and there is still a FDL en route, all heavily armed and dangerous!

I am in awe of your dedication!

I didn't enter the race because I knew i couldn't do the trip all in one go, however I am on the way back in a roundabout route and I have some advice that may help, on the way in my route planner started dying at about 5000ly from the core however on the way out i went straight downwards and it was working again at only about 800-1000ly out.

I can only assume that going downwards causes the stars to thin out faster because of the general disc shapedness of the galaxy.

Being able to plot 1000ly routes for longer may make a curved route that comes in from above or below slightly faster than an as the crow flies one if anyone wants to try that out.

I see you have some D3 thrusters.
The Adder is so light I would think it would run on D2 just in case you haven't tried that and want a bit more jump range.

*edit, just saw your second picture, looks like you have already left, good luck.

Oh my, I've read this in the Dev Update, and it's time to get me a bumpersticker! Commander DasJuicen reporting in, with his Co-Pilot. Doge.

CMDR DasJuicen
Vessel: Scuttle Shuttle
Type: Hauler

I'll be taking off the next few moments here, I need to get one put together in just a few, I've got snacks and my Co-Pilot, Tobias, my trusty Chihuahua, by my side. I'm going to sail out there, and get lost in the black for a while. I hope to make decent time. :D

Sorry to have missed you Anuranium! I finally sobered up enough to log in again and was greeted by Metta :)

I hung around for a couple of hours or so, and greeted a new explorer arrival... unfortunately for some weird reason suddenly I couldn't chat even in local... so I thought I would SC out and back in and see if it fixed it... and silly me I forgot that the wake will be gone and I can't drop back out of SC to join the explorer again :(

Preparations.

After leaving the bar, I staggered back to my Hauler. I was tired and groggy, but feeling strangely elated. If this worked out, I would be able to re-enter Imperial space without having every two-bit bounty hunter on my tail. Fooling around with that Imperial senators daughter was probably not one of my best ideas. It had cost me some very lucrative rare trade agreements when he used his influence to put a huge bounty on my head.

Next day and several mugs of Kitten Brand later, I headed back to Alioth to get the old girl out of storage.
"Cool Runnings" - my trusty old Asp. It had been a long time since last I flew her, but there was no better ship for the particular job I had accepted. Too bad I had to practically gut her to do it.

Having refuelled her and completed all the checks, I set out for Perez Ring in LHS 2637 to do some outfitting. Off came the guns, shields, warrant scanner and cargo bays. I spent nearly all my savings on the biggest fuel scoop I could cram into her, along with some field maintenance units. The ship was ready, but was I? I would need some help getting to Sagittarius A* as fast as possible. I had heard of people arranging a race to Sag A. Perhaps they could give me a hint or two.

Shortly thereafter, I found myself at Galileo station in Sol, where the races started from. I was lucky to meet a couple of old racers in the local watering hole. They were more than willing to give up their trade secrets after having plied them with several bottles of Lavian Brandy. One spoke of a region called the Aucoks, where scoopable stars were few and far between. "You 'ave to go abov' or belo'" he said, bleary-eyed. The other hinted that course plotting would be all but impossible as one got closer to the mighty black hole. "Bring a Trumble with you", he said excitedly, "it will point the way".

Thus armed with sage knowledge, I signed up for the race to start the next morning.

Setting off.

The noise in Galileo station was deafening. Ships were arriving in a steady stream to participate in the race. Everyone was busy with last-minute tweaking and small repairs to their ships. I entered my cockpit, excited to get underway. I knew this would be a grueling trip, easily the longest flying session I had ever done. Drinks and snacks were stowed within arms reach and the Trumble purred contentedly in its cage. I went through my pre-flight checklist:

All repairs done - Check.

Wear and tear fixed - Check.

Fully fuelled - Check.

Ship specifications submitted to racing officials - Check.

All requirements for "Open rules" fulfilled - Check.

Tuned in to Radio Sidewinder - Check.

I was as ready as I ever would be. Waiting for the race to start was pure agony. Had I forgotten something? Time would tell.

The clock finally ran down to the the agreed time. I made a quick photo to document my start, then gingerly launched and left the docking bay right behind another Asp. After lining up to my first destination, I switched off the sensors and power distributor to prevent overheating later on. Just as I left the mass shadow of the station, I initiated the frame shift drive - the first of many, many times to do so.

Finally back in my home system of LHS 2651.
Some 33.9 Million credits richer after selling all the Exploration Data.

Here's a couple interesting Pics.

And here's a great argument to use a Type 6 for exploration over an Asp. :p
HM Repair menu.jpg

I'll give it a couple weeks, and I'll go run again and try to improve my time.

I'm 780 ly from Sag A and I've spent the last 50 minute trying to get a plot, any plot at all, to register. Aaaarrrggghhh! If this takes any longer I'm going to get out and swim!

I really struggled with this too (about the time I wrote my "lost all my mirth" quote). With a bit of trial and error I found another "magic" number (110) which got me close enough that I ended up just a single jump away.

Racing log 1.

4 hours in and 9000LY behind me. Everything is working well. Only had two minor cases of overheating. All modules at 100%, except the fuel scoop, which has lost 1% health.
I quickly fell into a rhythm of sounding the discovery-horn upon arrival at a new system, while at the same time aligning my ship to scoop the star while pointing towards the next target. After filling my tank, I aligned my ship with the next star and engaged the frame shift drive, then checked the GalMap if the next star was scoopable.

I have only encountered a dozen or so unscoopable stars, and never more than two in a row. So far I've averaged 27 minutes per 1000 light years. Not a stellar time by any means, I just hope I will accomplish a respectable time for my ship type.

I'm starting to understand the magnitude of this undertaking. I still have about two thirds of the way ahead of me. I also have the troubled lands of unplottable routes ahead of me. Hopefully, the Trumble will show its worth when that time comes.
