for people that re-outfit ships -- if 10% penalty for compoent sale is implemented, which profession are you going to stick with?

I´m a so called 'jack of all trades', using [only] a Python as my home - multipurpose is my philosophy of life.
I´m thinking of using this http://www.edshipyard.com as a fixed basic loadout when the penalty turns in. Allows me to fitt the empty 2x C5 and 1x C3 compartments with modules for mining (drone contoller), trading (more racks), fighting (SCB´s) and smuggling while suffering a max loss of 300-400k per specialized outfit. ASFIK that´s roughly the payout for specialized missions (hunting, mining) coming with the PP-update. IMHO its not that big deal. However, I´ve to stick on one weapon loadout, cannot max out the cargo capacity and lose the C6 corpartment for another SCB to maintain a profitable cargo space. Multiporpose, specialization and the drawbacks of each comes really into play...

I have no issues with the 10pct rule - think it makes more sense, thought I would appreciate no-questions-asked returns policy wherein I could get a full refund: say 1 hour. But even without that, I'm OK with the 10pct rule - makes sense in my book.

I won't stick with any one profession - that would make the game dull. Variety is the key to fun in Elite, and this would give me a reason to get a couple of lesser ships and outfit them well. I actually think this will increase the fun factor, as smaller ships are so much more fun that large ships on many fronts. Large ships = easy mode, require virtually no skill to fly/fight with, are slow and less maneuverable, and lessen the sense of excitement and imminent danger felt with small ships.

I will keep my Conda for Trading i think. Ill buy a Python for combat and maybe another Python for mining, depends on how much money i have when 1.3 hits. Basically i will buy a ship for every profession eventually. Also some small ships as mission runners such as the Courier.

if the 10% does not go live, ill stick to my Conda for everything.

I will actually still be swapping modules whenever I need to; I will consider the 10% a tradesman cut at the store, which is not unreasonable at all. It is only the larger modules on the bigger ships that will make a real dent in the bank account unless you are a new player with very limited funds.

But that being said, I have a couple of short range fighters parked on strategic places, and I have a fully upgraded battle Python that will stay that way because I filled it with the rebate shield and shield cell banks from 78 Ursae Majoris. And the Asp seems to stay as the optimal exploring vessel unless you have the cash to keep a conda for it.

The only ships that possibly will be refitted are the Anaconda, for the times I want to go nuts in SSS'es or just lunk around in a battle fortress, and the Clipper, which now is fitted for trading, but I sometimes like to take to a RES or whatnot.

I'll do trading in the Conda, do my main RES farming in the Python and Vulture, fight Combat Zones in the Python and Vulture, explore and do run-arounds in the Asp, do some SSS in the Fer-De-Lance, noodle about in a Courier (when it arrives), and eventually get another Conda to kit out for extreme combat. That should cover all bases.

What is SSS?

I already have what some have said they'll do. A Python for fighting, a trading Anaconda and an Asp Explorer.

No changes needed to those configurations. I will however try the new 1.3 ships and kit a mining ship. I've done a lot of module experimentation already, which I am very glad for now, so I will get my configurations of new ships 95% right the first time, hopefully.

I have a Vulture that's obviously combat-only, so it will of course stay that way. My second ship was an Asp that I would swap between exploration and trading.

As soon as I heard about PP in general and the type of game play it entails, I specced her for exploration and put inhabited space to my rudder. I'm 4000 Ly away now and have no near-term intentions of returning. I'll return one day, I'm sure, and the millions of credits I earned will probably go towards a T6/7 if the 10% penalty got instituted, or a down-payment on a Python if not.

It is going to make a big difference to me, as I sold all my ships ( asp, vulture, viper, and type 9) to buy a python and an anaconda during the zoance discount. Plan was trader anaconda till I could afford to combat fit it and then swap back and forth as needed, and combat or trade python as needed, which I could do right away. The module sale penalty will make a big difference especially in the anaconda where some modules can run 51M. I don't have the credits to take a 5M hit on a module trade for a specific goal. Even the python will be a challange to swap out modules, as swapping between size 5 and 6 shields for trading or combat results in 1 or 2M in losses every time you do it
yeah, I get it, I can make 5M an hr trading to make up that loss, but I don't want to be forced into any type of gameplay. So in my opinion FD is forcing players into specific roles or ships. As Michael Brooks said in his recent update,(loosely interpretated) he tends to have ships set up for a specific purpose, so it appears that FD wants us to play that way too.

Well I have personally gutted most of my ships (Viper/Sidewinder/Python) in advance of this happening.
Bought an additional Sidewinder and took it to Achenar (for Courier) and teched my Anaconda for exploration. (Loose about 1mil respeccing).

I will be buying courier and Diamondback after 1.3 launch then picking up my Conda and exploring till im Elite (access to Founders world for 10% module discount).
Hopefully when I get back I will have around 350mil in the bank (250mil current) and can tech each ship once but do it properly.

I even had some crazy plan to have 3 Condas (Combat/Trade/Exploration), but thats on hold for now.

Tl:dr Exploration.

None, really, I'll look at having specific ships for specific roles, and upgrade each on a path. So, for example, I could have a trading Type 6, an exploring Diamondback, and a combat Viper; I could earn a few coins and decide to sell the Viper and buy a Vulture, keeping the other ships.

I can not be bothered with sitting in the starport swapping out components all evening when I could be earning credits and having fun.

Small ships.
10% of changing the outfitting on a small ship is nothing :D

Unless you're a new player with only a couple thousand credits. Having money sinks is usually a good thing, but this one is going to affect new players a lot more than somebody with a couple hundred million in the bank. A rich player can either keep multiple ships around, or just eat the costs.

I think I will multiship.

I have my exploration Clipper
I will pick up a Clipper for trading
Maybe get a combat Clipper too.

And a Courier for weekend jaunts with my favourite slave.

Well I reset my save the other day - had too much money and no incentive to do anything except PvP - and am currently working my way up the ladder again to get into a comfortable starting position for Power Play. Have about 50 millon in assets already so I'm in good shape and enjoying earning space bucks once again.

Plan is to buy a Federal Driftship and a Courier for PvE and an FdL for PvP.

Currently doing everything in a MK III. It really is a superb ship.

I will trade with the T9 but a lot less than I'm doing now. Only do a couple of runs a week I guess. No point grinding for the Python as it will be too expensive to play around with different builds, fit it for different CGs etc. so, short answer: play other games that don't penalise fun, and return when 10% is removed or a proper storage function is implemented.
