So, I was just flying solwards when CMDR Anuranium gives me a heads up that someone else was just nearby:

tJzauZy.jpg
Looks like it's out with the old and in with the new some 4k light years from Sol!

well done you crazy runners! getting there is half the fun.
looking forward to Alots run tomorrow, good luck chap.
(good job I sent Ez to aucocks so he cant update the board. ;) I think we may get a new record)

7kly, 2 Star Wars movies, and a couple drinks in. Starting to lose focus.

It's progress, going to run into Anuranium soon! I wonder if anyone will be there to greet me, other than scummy tourist-killers.

For anyone wishing to keep company - or sit in the middle of the Galileo mail slot laughing manically - I'll be running in the morning; speculative start time is 1000GMT, but that depends on how lazy I'm feeling. :p

Some guy in the exploration thread said that a cobra could do 20,000LY in 5,5 hours... I have my doubts. But CMDR Alot, I have no doubt that you will make history tomorrow.

Best of luck!

Oh and Mangel; I almost passed out at the helm. I have reached my goal of getting within 10,000LY of SOL and will shut down here for some hours, trying to get some sleep before my final leg. If you are really bored, come and knock on my windscreen and I'll be out. Not entirely out... but you know... out. Out.
Experience Jelly anyone?

I call bullsh.it on that.

20K LY in 5.5 hours means 3636 LY per hour.

3636 LY per hour means 60LY per minute

Cobra has an average range of 25LY. 60LY needs at least 3 jumps to achieve. NO ships I know has ever managed to do 3 jumps in 1 minute. Most times it's 1 jump per minute (full jump cycle from 4...3...2...1 to the next one).

And that is not even taking into account refuel time. Max fuel scooping speed is the A4 scoop which allows 343kg/sec refuel time. It alone takes 15 to 25 seconds to refuel a nearly-empty 16T tank.

Is it faster to refuel from empty, or dip in and top up at each scoopable star? I feel that if I were to wait until empty, I would crash into way too many stars.

Actually, I don't know :D I never thought about timing it myself. Although the perception is that it is faster to skim a bit as I go along... but it could very well be that it is faster to refuel ONCE than to skim-fuel many times... maybe you might wanna test it out since you're on a run right now...:)

Hi
Heading out for my first attempt, beta Diamondback Scout, "wee dibs".
Take care all,
John

Before you get disappointed, I think EZ mentioned that "whatever happens in beta, stays in beta"... meaning it won't be officially recognised...

So you may have to wait till 1.3 is "live" before you attempt it on the Diamondback.

But that doesn't mean you can't do it tho.. just that it won't be recognized :D

Unfortunately, it won't officially count, but it would be interesting to see what kind of time the Diamondback could possibly hit.

I can already say it's gonna be more than 20 hours. Its jump range is only marginally better than a Cobra's. Prolly 25 to 30 hours on average, 20 hours my best guess for best effort and smooth sailing (no Aucoks for example :D )

EDIT - Just went to ED shipyard. If the configuration is like such: http://www.edshipyard.com/#/L=70h,,2-3I6u6Q3m5K3m6k,4zM, in theory it could be done in 15 to 16 hours.

In theory :D

But we all know, crossing the arms (the first 10K LY) is the hardest.

So, this is OT, but you folks are the kinda crazy people who come up with creative solutions to problems, and I've got a big one. If anyone knows enough about how the game mechanics work to suggest a better solution, it's y'all. I don't think there IS a better solution, but... I can hope?

As most of you know, I have two accounts, and two CMDR's... an Alliance CMDR named Jaryd Moonshadow, and an Imperial CMDR named Crystal Starblade.

I had intended to cut this down to playing only one CMDR. 1.3 pretty much forces me to do this; splitting my efforts won't really be viable after that.

That said... the CMDR I had intended to keep was Jaryd Moonshadow. His is the account that is actually tied to the forum account, for one thing, so he's the one people find when they want to friend me in game. His is also my beta account, and there is something to be said for preserving that! Unfortunately, I have realized that Crystal was actually a LOT wealthier than Jaryd. To the tune of double. She's sitting on about 60 million CR in cash.

The game provides no effective means that I can see to transfer this wealth from one CMDR to the other. The best idea I can come up with is logging both of them into a private group (on two different machines, which is not a problem, as I have two PC's capable of running the game), and flying them both to the same location in space with big empty ships, and dumping and picking up some really expensive cargo.

However, I'm not clear on if this is actually allowed (having two accounts and logging them both in at the same time). In some games it isn't. So I want to be clear on that point. Also, the most expensive cargo I can find is Platinum. Which would mean having to transfer (and thus, having to scoop) 3000 canisters!

That... doesn't seem worthwhile. But I really hate to just give up that 60 million. I mean, that took a lot of time to earn.

If anyone is aware of any other possible solutions to this, please let me know.

Um... make Crystal rack up a bounty of 60 mill and kill her with Jaryd?

You can get that to 28.4/30.4 by lightening the power plant and distributor, not like that is much of a difference.

But we all know, crossing the arms (the first 10K LY) is the hardest.

I now know this all too well. 11.5kly, almost half way :D

Interestingly, I put together a build for the Courier that can make 31.94 LY. Of course, it has to scoop at minimum every second jump just like my Hauler did. And scooping is a real adventure in the Courier! But it should still be able to make a decent time.

Heh, I think the "rack up massive bounty, let your friend kill you" has been officially declared an exploit now. I don't wanna be that guy.
