So in the absence of a better explanation I have to assume that ED's motive with decay is to enforce regular play, otherwise their design goals could be met by activating decay when you're online as opposed to off. As stated ad infinitum this unfairly penalises casual players. Welcome to the grind train!

It's a shame, it really is. Many games have tried this and it's always been met with almost universal ire from users.

Why penalize the people who are playing average gaming hours? They're the majority of the player base.

This is not real life; I do not have to make a regular play commitment to keeping my progress intact in a video game. Making people feel forced to play your game is a surefire way to make it a chore, which in turn makes it no more fun than doing the dishes or mopping the floors.

This said I hope Frontier realizes what a massive error this is and rectifies it before public release.

The motive for this? Read here.

After that, I encourage everyone to read this post. It touches on this (and other things) and explains, in perfect detail, why 1.3 is going so wrong for us. There is an overall pattern to the changes which create a different sort of game from the one we've been playing.

Thanks, official word on it is what i've been waiting for....even though i'll probably have to read that several times to wrap my head around it.

From what i understand at first glance, we wont "drift" below friendly or above unfriendly though, right ?

My initial impression of this was, it would go all the way down/up to neutral.

I'm still not thrilled by the idea as a whole, but it would be slightly less frustrating that way.

They will love you more if you leave your client logged in overnight, furiously rendering and doing nothing of consequence... than if you save energy and log off.

That's not cool.

Just get a cheap tablet, install ED on it and keep it running while you're docked and getting on with real life. You'll get something like 2FPS, but you won't care, it's not as bad for the environment and it's also not AFK farming because you're not actually doing anything.

So this is the goal of these changes? To promote the sales of cheap tablets and still create unnecessary energy use? Or it it to be able to sometimes publish inflated numbers of active players? I actually think if anything, this change can deflate those numbers...

For someone to even sarcastically suggest this shows that something is fundamentally flawed.

Same here. Leaving aside other games waiting to be played, I can put a lot of time in right now while I'm on a break, but at some point, other commitments will start taking up most of my time.

The only 'other commitment' you need to worry about is when I finally come to kick your asp.

In another thread @Saman suggested no rep decay for the major faction of the power you pledge to. I think that makes sense and stops this being an issue

I backed the game during kickstarter and I haven't played since December. I think things like rep decay will only keep me away from the game. I would have loved a modern version of the last game without all this online nonsense. I'm really not into games that require you to devote your entire life to.

Is a reputation dropping down to Friendly at it's lowest via decay, really such an issue?

Probably not, I'm just getting tired of all this change. I'm starting to wish the game was complete and that's that. At the moment I don't want to play an incomplete game. All this change seems to push me away. I will probably wait for the expansions then play solo.

Yes, its an unfair punishment no matter where it drops to at max. I do not derseve getting punshed for having a live and stuff to do, not even a itzy bitzy tiny little bit.

Rep decay means I'll never get my clipper, and that makes me a sad Mercy. Add that in with all the other "improvements" that 1.3 is "offering" and it means even less play time from me, personally. Might even just uninstall altogether.

This is really what I'm concerned with. How does rep decay affect your ability to rank within the current factions? I actually did a marathon 2 day grinding session and went from Petty Officer to Post Commander and getting to Baron took me about 7 hours give or take, however, there are even higher ranks in Power Play and I still haven't reached Earl yet (something I plan on doing sooner than the patch comes out).

I have a htpc that runs 24/7 and wonder if it's powerful enough to start the game so I can stay logged in and avoid the rep loss. Any other solutions?

Why doesn't rep just decline while you're online and not gaining rep for said faction in a certain amount of time?

Rep decay means I'll never get my clipper

How so? Rank does not decay as you know and it's also known that reputation will not decay below Friendly. Since the Naval Ascension missions are triggered from reputation transitions of minor aligned sub-factions sometime after you get Friendly, exactly how does this affect your ability to rank up?

Is this true? This is totally unfair to people like myself with a family who can only spend small amounts of time playing. I'd like to think my contribution to the galaxy is remembered when I next log back in!

As long as you show up in a system and do something from time to time, your rep ought to be preserved. People don't forget their heroes just because they're out of action a couple of weeks. Likewise, they don't forget their mortal enemies in such a time.

Completely agree with both statements.

Did I miss something? 30 minutes of playing PP beta after installing it set me from "Allied" for Emp and Fed to "Friendly". And the arrow is still red. oO
