Just got a T9 ... loving it!!

Question for the T9 jockeys - I had one a while back but dumped it for the Anaconda.

Wasn't there talk of some kind of bulk trading penalty/tax that hit the T9 - or did I completely imagine it?

I did enjoy flying the thing actually..

The bulk tax still exists as far as I am aware, not just the T9, any big freighter. Pulling in 800,000 to 900,000c per 8 minutes with this config http://www.edshipyard.com/#/L=70Y,mpa01Q,2-8SBa9Y8SA06u9s,0DI0Bk0AA08c07207205U05U03w Would never sell this ship, it payed for every other ship I own in game.

@Aquila, you're right, repair costs are rediculous now. Bumping into things is not an issue (for me at least) The issue is with interdictions - The cost of any repairs from an attack is always less than profit you make from having that extra rack. I had hoped reduced repair costs would be a temporary thing, I guess not.

They are profitable, I had one, but the realization set it that I was trying to get to a better combat ship because why? Because I prefer combat. I have enough credits to play combat roles in a Vulture or Python (not as good as a Vulture imo) with 100m or more to spare, so I ditched the T9 in fear that the grind would cause me to shelve the game prematurely.

when NPCs get stronger in 1.3 and interdict you in wings ... end of the line
That´s not worth the risk (for me). Have to play around with the outfitting though, but chaff and SCBs are a must I guess to gain time for an escape jump.
(no boosting and good speed necessary - it´s too slow anyway)

If you are only worried about NPC's shields are not an issue. You can always jump to another system - update 1.3, Nothing can masslock a T9 except the Python & Conda

I've done 100m credits in an unshielded T7 and never lost as ship. provided you head to the edges and stay clear of the idiot zones (Lave etc) then you're fine. never understood what all the fuss was about running an unshielded trader. I love them!

well, I don't know what this says about my CMDR but after cashing in my exploration data, and being pressed non-stop by my 8 year old son, I bought a trading Python instead of a T9 as I wanted originally.

Well that was a disappointment....only lasted for 2 days. Just bought me a nice huge T9 and I'm so glad I don't care about the 6 mil penalty for returning a brand new python.

millions, here I come.

i was not happy with the Python at all myself. Actually, I just blew a few million Cr's by selling my type-9 for an A-spec'd Clipper (amazing ship), went to a few RES and ran some missions. It is simply amazing and a joy to fly. Then, I sold it and bought back my type-9. Simple reason, the type-9 is a money printing machine and a work horse. I will get another clipper, but I need to make Cr's first.

Got my Python and Clipper for other things but my T9 maxed out for cargo no shields is the money maker...:D

i was stupid enough to sell my a-rated vulture on my return - i thought i could fight with the python - and that was a huge mistake as the trading setup is very bad for RES and BHing in my view.

So I cashed in everything, bought the T9 and I have this plan:

once I make 30 mil I'm buying a a-spec vulture again.
once I make 30 mil I'm re-fitting an exploring ship - got tired of the asp, think i'll go for a t6 this time.
i've tried all ships except the anaconda and the clipper. With a t9, an explorer ship and a vulture, I think I'm covered, especially if the 10% comes in and re-fitting same ship becomes an issue.

I think the multirole ships will suffer popularity-wise from the 10% rule. We'll enter the specialisation era.

Agreed, but it can be easilty fixed, all we need is item storage, preferably something mobile, say for instance 1 ton cargo can work as item storage for a set amount of modules.
Until we have something like that, then 10% price penalty on modules is honestly a bad idea for gameplay in general.

This is a game in the end, and granted making money isn't a huge hassle, but it will put a damper on experimentation and thus make the game LESS FUN !

I'm happy to hear the type 9 is fun to fly. I planned to get one instead of Python for trading, but wasn't sure it would be good, with all the bad rep it gets on the forum.

I always wanted to make a tungsten T9™, with all cargo space as hull reinforcement, A8 shields and boosters, and lovely turrets.

Is this a crazy dream? Can cows bite?

Tried one (through beta discount) for the first time last night, was interesting until I got attacked during mining.

I thought the Type 6 turned slowly, even with 4 turrets did not stand a chance vs 2 sidewinders.....

Was an experience though.
