Is there any chance of getting the ability to downgrade our sensors on larger ships to lighten the mass? This has been a major explorer concern for a while along with the fuel tanks (thank you for adding them by the way!).

Dear David Braben

What's the texture loading bit in the Beta about. Does it read the GPU and try to optimise the game to avoid stuttering? I have a low(ish) graphics card and it seems a lot smoother to me.

How did you feel about the fantastic and overwhelmingly positive and co-operative (if ultimately fruitless) community response to the Unknown Artefacts? Will you build on that experience to add actual mystery and investigation into the game in the future? Something worthy of the amazingly talented and knowledgeable community...

My question is more future-update-related - but its a AMA, so here i go:

Is there any progression on the missing celestrial effects (like acceretion disks or matter transfer on close binarys)?

And secondly, are there any plans to fix the "Galactic wall" (the "line" towards the centre with tons of Type O, BH and Neutrons on the right side an nearly non on the left)?? its a real immersion breaker for us explorers.

There are a few different things here. We should probably have had something in for this at the start, but we need to do something. We understand some of the complaints - particularly about swapping ship load-outs.

I also think we should have discussed it beforehand - but given how many things there are in Powerplay, we simply didn't call it out.

This is a bone of contention amongst our designers - and we will do something in the future. There should be a cost to this - but that is for another day. So some news - we will be reversing this change shortly (or 'soonTM' as Michael B would say...), so to be clear this aspect will be as it was before in the public release.

This is a beta after all, and we want the best experience for everyone.

I'm sure you've seen the suggestion before, but it seems a perfect place to make it again. I agree with you that the 10% cost for module sellback shoulda been in to start, but I think the best way to handle it is allowing us to store and transport modules - in order to transport them we'd need adequate cargo space of course, but that is the beauty of it. Is this something that you guys would consider?

Also are there any plans to make armor play a larger more significant role in engagements?
Ships like the diamondback, dropship, and Python have stats that seem to place importance on their armor but receive little benefit from their stock values or any augmentation to that value.
 
Being in my Anaconda and seeing those empty seats really got me thinking about the Elite Dangerous Expansions. So my question is kind of a two-parter on those lines.
1. What do you guys plan on being the first expansion. I don't need something super specific, just a general idea on what you would want to release first.
2. Do you guys have a expansion timeline, like 4-6 months for the first one? Or 1-2 years?

Thanks for taking the time to answer questions! It means a lot for us fans!

My question: I know PowerPlay isn't released to everyone and all but, any news of WHAT the first expansion will cover? If you don't want to tell us WHAT could you please tell us WHEN we could expect some information on the first expansion? Myself and a lot of my friends are eager to continue supporting FDEV. We enjoy buying skins and what not but the expansions will be the most exciting :D

..not as much a power related question:

In the DDF we spoke about stations that grow by new facilities that are getting build around the station.

Will we see these growing stations and will new facilities (if they come) have functionalities for players to use?

I love this sort of thing.

Yes, we will build on it over time.
 
Other than the 10 powers that are coming out for powerplay, is there any other powers you can hint at? Like say a certain imperial senator from a certain book?
 
Could you commission some of the many authors in the ED family to produce an ongoing in-galaxy reality story about some of the galaxy's bigger personalities? "Dallying with the Duvals" or something like that? If I had a few tidbits of juicy galactic gossip, I'd have more to share with my wife about my other life in the 34th century ;).
 
David and one more question - why new mission system is required rank "elite" for some missions? To my mind - "Elite" is top rank, and people who is "Elite" in pilots federations not so interested in missions, such as those who do not have this rank.

Hello mr Braben Will your ranking in combat trade and exploration play a bigger role in future game play for example that powers/factions wil try to recruit high ranking Commanders for their own benefit?
Ps I had a run in in the Beta 1.3.5 With a NPC called Chris Braben is that a rellative?

Hello David,

Now that the essence of the game is firmly in place I feel like it would be an opportune time to flesh out the Galaxy and make it feel more habitable. Even something as simple as those glorious portraits of the powerplays makes such a difference! (Putting a face to the name and dastardly deeds!)

There are already text comms from NPC's and mission contracts etc, but I would like to know in what ways you plan to flesh out the Elite Universe?

Some examples perhaps...

Inhabited stations AKA that cool video you guys made with the pilots and little people on the landing pads.
Audio / visual NPC comms
Audio / visual NPCS offering missions
More sentient like dialogue with your ships computer (like the books)
Radio stations
Galnet news audio
Co pilots
