97.7% of my Youtube viewers male shock!

Hi guys,
I just looked at the Youtube analytics for my alpha videos (the only videos I've uploaded). Out of the 6314 views, 2.3% were female, and 97.7% were male :p! I'm sure you're as shocked as I am :D!

Interestingly enough, my channel stats show almost the same percentage for the last two weeks.

BUT if I check out the lifetime statistics, the female viewership grows to 13 %. Seems that Elite: Dangerous footage is very male-oriented compared to more widely appealing footage from medieval fairs and myself shooting a bow...

you used a gun to shoot a bow????? what kind of sick ******* are you?

guys got a bow all you have to do is hide behind a tree and hope it rains, no need to shoot him.

2.3% were female,

Looking at the :D in OP, I don't think dr.Wookie was more surprised about the male/female ratio than he was surprised about water in the shower feeling wet :p

Why's this a surprise? The Male:Female ratio in videogames has always been heavily biased toward the former.

Am I reading your post in the wrong way ? If so apologies....If not then

I don't think its in any way biased.. Are women not allowed to buy video games then ?

Of course they are....Its just because they don't want to.....

The percentage would be about the same in a pub with men and women buying pints of beer..Nothing stopping them they just prefer not to .. its a fact of life not in any way biased ;)

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
there is a joke there.... nah, i'll just leave it.

My character in the game is female, but I've never been deceptive about my identity! :) Just because someone has a girl avatar doesn't mean they're a girl!

Yeah you missed slightly. Wasnt saying they cant/shouldnt, just less generally do. When I said biased, I meant it in terms of ratio/balance not of origin or opinion. Videogames are just overwhelmingly more popular with the male crowd. Its about 10:1 estimates as of ~5 years ago...

In fact, theres even been HUGE internal debates from game companies how to market to women better.

Sorry I wasnt being meaning to be rude.

@Crystles : Ah right well apologies again :)

Sometimes text can come across differently to individual readers so I tried to cover my butt just in case I was misreading :)

Using simplistic anecdata from the female gamers I know, don't try and specifically market to women.

Thats generally the conclusion. I studied game design in in college, and its pretty much conclusive that the barrier to the market is as much social as it is preferential. Most attempts to "feminize" games are met with backlash from the larger male market and is ineffectual to the females who are already IN the market, in many cases being just as undesirable which looses consumers on both sides.

So yeah, as you stated, its best just to leave it alone. Yet theres billions of potential dollars to be made in this untapped market. The genius to breech it would shatter records, and thats why companies sometimes still try.
