Out of Fuel? - Explorer Rescue Service, The Fuel Rats

I had sacrificed range for max fuel so I really had thought that I could scoop my way around the universe and usually refilled at every star as I waited for the scanner to complete - so I know for sure I didn't miss a single scoopable star in my final run.. and that for me is the problem - I had no way of knowing where to go to find the correct type of star as there was no maps.. I have friends who play so could easily have waited for them to try to come get me - but what is to say they too didn't end up with the same fate.. do I risk calling them for help and have them stranded somewhere close to me, also out of fuel? And yes I know about the economical setting - but the zone was pretty sparse with stars and I just ran out of luck.

Do you know about the classes of stars that are scoopable and how to filter for them on the GalMap? There are several areas of the galaxy that require a bit of forward planning to cross as there are very few scoopable stars, having a good understanding of the map really helps with this.

Very nice initiative. I've been wondering if someone would organize something like this since the refueling limpets and additional fuel tanks were first announced. Also, to the OP, maybe you should write a GalNet article about it. With a bit of luck FDev will select it for official publication and players who do not read the forum will have a chance to know about this too.

Good suggestion; I don't know how to do a galnet article and am right now kind of overloaded (on travel, using airport internets) If someone reading this thread wishes to do it, they may proceed with whatever my blessing's worth.

its going to be like the AA

Alcoholics Anonymous?

Any rat with art skills?

We need a poster version like a railway warning:

IN CASE OF FUEL SHORTAGE
- Remain with your vehicle
- Stay calm
- Reduce your breathing and food consumption
- Call the Fuel Rats
- Praying is optional
- The penalty for loitering is death

etc.

OK, I'm silly. I can't help it.

This is a great idea.

I have only gone out twice so far, 1st trip was in a cobra Mk 3 to the Palades (something like that) Nebula about 2k travel total, but 2nd trip was a bit further to NGC Nebula, 1/3 the way to Sag A*. was a test run in an ASP Exp.

I nearly ran out of fuel when i left the Arms of the Galaxy and jumped into a Brown dwarf field. Didnt realise until i was quite a way in. luckily i found a scoopable star and got across the field.

few questions though for anyone in Beta:

how much weight does the equipment cost? If not too much i would carry it with me whilst out exploring and be happy to be called on to give aid.
If there is payment, and if i'm on the receiving end, i would have to haul tons of Gold etc with me, which will reduce jump distance. better ideas need to be made in this area.

but apart from that, add me to the list and if im in a close proximity to a stranded soul i will go help. no payment needed for me, just the thought of helping a stranded explorer is payment enough.

I did pledge myself as a Fuel Rat, but the 1st post has been updated twice and i haven't been added yet.

CMDR Ozmodion.

So, now we petition Frontier for a transferable variant of the AFMU.

-Can be transferred from one ship to another (preferably using the fuel limpet controller, now called the rescue limpet controller).
-Limited ammo in each unit (needs to be balanced carefully).
-Can only be used once
-Multiple units can be used on same equipment sequentially.
-Price => Economically not viable if compared to a permanently fitted unit.

And now we are the AA equivalent.

Further development could be a data transfer limpet allowing exploration data to be carried on behalf of another player but not cashed in. Needs to be transferred back to original owner to be cashed in.

What would be really nice is an external repair tool that allows one ship to repair anothers structural integrity. Somethign AMFUs cant do.

Id love to see a T6/7/9 or anaconda rescue ship with extra fuel & transfer drones, hull repair and maintenance drones, etc. If theyd just let us transfer credits and data, you could make some profit buying stuff from explorers, and then turning it around and bringing it back into the bubble to sell it yourself. (with them getting name credit for first discovery, you just get the cash rewards). Who needs a station? Just call in the rescue teams to fit you up, swap data, repair you and send you back out.

Repair drones would be awesome... but they need to be able to repair canopies and power plants too.

And if I ever render the fuel rat service the payment is paying forward - the beneficiary needs to be a fuel rat too :)
