To the FDL who can't handle being shot at...

Slightly edited, but this would be me if I could play Open:

I would probrably stalk those with bad grammar like some crazy English teacher with a grudge.

Players can't RP a CMDR with anti-social behavior? I thought that would be some sort of public service that adds to the excitement of the game and puts the dangerous into Elite Dangerous?

Can't wait until a CMDR writes into the chat something like: "Sirs, with all respect, you're all like Oedipus and a proponents of the sin of Onan." While he is killing anybody for the lulz.

I hope that this doesn't get me into trouble for hidden bad language - or is it bad language?

13. pages just because somebody wrote something not nice in the chat of a computer game?

How can someone verbally abusing a commander add to the excitement of the game, and what makes it more dangerous?

Swearing just shows a lack of vocabulary.
But it can also show a masterly command of brevity.
Like the time I heard a sparky say about a motor.
"The F'n F'r's F'n F'd." In a broad Geordie accent.
Perfect!

The English language has some superb adjectives that are even better than swearing, and quite often once you start swearing it is implicit that you have lost the argument. Anyway in PvP I would find it far mor menacing to stay silent, plus the fact I cant type and shoot at the same time.
Being ex military there is little profanity I have not had either heard of or had thrown at me, and it really does have little effect, and once it starts in a PvP it is quite comical, like handbags at three paces.
Make that two paces. Better chance of a hit that way. ;)

Best thing to do is to think up some real put downs, of which Churchill was a master:
Woman to Churchill "You Sir are drunk"
Churchill to woman "and you madam are ugly, but at least in the morning I will be sober".

Nah! That is just offensive. Anyone can do that.
I prefer a bit more subtlety. ;)
There is the story of the first mate of a steamer. Who the captain had written in the ship's log that he had turned up on watch, drunk.
Next watch the first mate wrote that the captain turned up sober.

In the same way as forcing players to do something in the game he doesn't want to do? Like piracy or forced PvP, maybe? Just thinking.
OK, it won't probably not get more dangerous unless you count the exposure to bad language as dangerous to the player. Then it would be more dangerous I guess.
It might get more immersive? Immersion is always a good excuse for doing things in a game that really shouldn't be done to other players ;)

To be clear. If something isn't allowed nobody should do it. I have no problem with "bad language" thrown at me from total strangers in a game - usually I'm slightly amused. If others have problems with "bad language" then everybody should stop using it. I just think it's slightly strange that "bad language" is something worth of 14 pages of forum discussion in a game that encourages anti-social behavior in game.

And I wrote about RP (role play) "bad language", not about directly verbally abusing a player. Just in case.

And while winged: "Prithee, dude. Yonder! Shield cells alight like fleeting embers of furious brigandry! Let us be about our gruesome work and bring the bitter tang of mortality to yon pirate this night!"

I think a lot of those 14 pages were off topic anyway and having an unnecessary go at the OP. I think the problem is its a PEGI 7, PEGI 18 and yes its fair game. In my naiveity I used to think past 2300 hrs all the underaged kids would be in bed, sadly thats not the case now.

Ha! Yeah, I think that's exactly what they want. They're British, they want to force the whole world to talk like British folk or get out of their game!

Or we could let standards slip and dumb down Queen's English like other parts of the world do. ;) :D

I think you mean the Queens English. By saying British folk you have just denegrated the Scots and Welsh, not to mention the regional acccents such as Geordie, Norfolk, Suffolk, Brummie, Cornish. If we all started talking Geordie 99% of the forums wouldnt understand, which, thinking about it wouldnt be a bad thing.

I'm fighting in a War Zone at Eravate when I see a two player ships turn red. One a FDL, one a Sidewinder. The FDL is Wanted, so I go for that. The shields in my Clipper aren't great so I bug out when they're low. Then I get a mouthful of abuse, told <guess the obscenity>, and that attacking him was out of order, that I should only be targeting NPCs.

You're a Wanted Commander, sir, fighting for the enemy faction in a Warzone. I have every right to go for you. And taking on 2 player ships, one a FDL isn't being a coward, as you called me. Neither is bugging out of a fight when you know you're beaten. That's all just part of the game. I have reported you to FD for your bad language.

You try to kill him and you are angry that he swore at you ?!!

If he didn't want to be targetted and attacked, he should have kept out of the war zone!
He also had a "Wanted" status, and turned red on the radar, indicating he was hostile to the OP.
Why should the OP NOT try and kill him?
What surprised and angered him so much he had to use obscene language? Or was he that much of a muppet!

Bradford?

LOL

+1

Well, we do try to educate our American friends who insist on saying and spelling English wrong :p
Perhaps they should come up with their own language and then the English couldn't pick fault with how ours gets butchered ;)
