Racial diversity among the powerplay lead figures

Sorry, I may be digressing and offtopping here, but I think it's an important aspect of art. The misconception of "art must ALWAYS deliver a message" is quite common and it can often distort perception of artwork.

Funny you should say that. This happened a lot when I was studying English at the Grammar School I attended.

We'd read a book, and the teacher would field a view-point of "Now remember, the curtains in the room are blue. Are they blue for a reason? Does it reflect the author's attempt to convey that the character was depressed?"

My first thought was always, "No. The curtains were blue. Because the author wanted them to be blue curtains."

It's funny how the people who want this thread closed also seem mostly the people who say the topic is not significant but the thread is on 8 less replies than the launch thread.

Says the person who started this whole subject earlier today.

You come up with some good posts Ben from really early on, but you should be ashamed of stirring the pot on this subject.

I am black and I play this game.
Am I not black enough for you TC?
Top Cat? Are you out there?

I think he has his own racial diversity issues to contend with...

Thankfully now in the UK liberalism has been defeated and PC brigade will become quiet (although 8 still exist and will bang the drum a little) and we can get on with normal life being nice to each other without it needing to be pointed out that we must be.

edit - back from the pub, picked up the dog for a quick walk round the field and back to the local while the update downloads :)

all this will be over soon and we'll all make up and be friends killing each other in space again.

A thousand years from now secondary characteristics like eye, skin and hair color will most likely be changeable via cosmetic gene therapy. These are the most powerful people in the galaxy, so I'm pretty sure that they can afford to look the way they want and not necessarily what they were born as (and this probably changes often with fashion trends - Princess Aisling's new Asian look is all the rage in Achenar this season!). I'd say the only one who probably still has his original secondary characteristics is Archon.

… and that's the message. :)

What is the message?

Exactly! Although you never know. That's the beauty of it. Only the author knows (unless he's told someone). I've had my art interpreted in many different ways and sometimes it's just completely off my initial intention. It's also very interesting from an artist's point of view to find out how the public sees their art. Some of my poems for example are just flow of words - some abstract, some surreal, some just... Words. They don't really mean much, but they sound nice, they form sentences that cause emotions in people. But I didn't MEAN anything when I was writing them, it was just emotions talking through me.

Interesting how all the outrage seems to come from people who don't see a problem here. While those who say there might be a slight one, all seem to be rather calm. Funny how that works. ;)

It's because the people who see no problem are not trying to impose their will on anyone. People insisting that there is something wrong and demanding that something must be changed are simply trying to force their personal agenda onto others. Why can't you just make your own drawings of the characters and post them here? Then everyone can be happy.

"I am a bit disappointed by the lack of racial variety in the current power leaders" --> imposing their will on someone.

"Please close the thread." --> not imposing their will on anyone.

Ok, got it.

Hey, I 've got a suggestion (not a demand, mind you):

Those who would not like to discuss this topic, don't discuss it.
Those who don't even want to see this topic being discussed, don't read the thread.
Those who would like to continue to discuss it, do that.

That ought to make everybody happy, no? Unless I forgot someone?

In that case it'd be nice to see some more imaginative and out there representations of what humanity might look like. I'd really like to see some heavy body modification being adopted by a faction, or certain facial characteristics which would confound our contemporary notions of race. Instead we have the uniformly pretty, mainly white and all pulling that 'Hollywood film star look' crowd ;)

Tbh for me at least this is far more to do with 'what is interesting' than representation or people wanting to label others as a SJW. (I had to Google SJW, good to keep up to date on the terminology UKIP voters and Daily Mail readers use though).

Looking through a glass onion...
(For those who don't know, Glass Onion was written by John Lennon as a reaction to hearing about people spending so much time over-analysing and interpreting their song lyrics as if they were holy text or a Joyce novel or something)
