Speed limit is way to low and unfair

Seriously when going at the speed limit you move at a crawl and the no fire zone is so huge it takes forever to get out of it. Heck if you want to jump to super cruse in the no fire zone you have to speed just to be fast enough to jump. Please double the speeding limit or remove it all together. Its making the game much less enjoyable.

Go as fast as you want!

Just don't hit anyone.

There is no actual speed limit, you are free to travel as fast as you wish in the no-fire zone. However, if you collide with another ship, that's where the recommended speed maximum actually has consequences. This was imposed to deal with people that rammed other people's ships for fun.

That's all fine and good until the AI comes right up to your face without enough time to slow down. Seriously the docking computer is at a resonable speed so its now mandatory to actually dock in any resonable time frame.

If that was the problem then it should have ONLY been INSIDE the station itself not like 5miles out from the station.

I am really astonished how many people struggle to understand this despite it being a pretty simple rule: go as fast as you want, if you don't hit anyone you won't receive a fine. How is that unfair?

Do you prefer deliberately ramming and damaging or destroying other ships near station entrances go unpunished?

AI ships don't appear in front of you out of thin air. It's really easy to follow them via the scanner and see if something is up ahead or not.

The one annoyance I have found with this speed limit is that station authority vessels will come in to scan me and head directly for me on a collision course when they do so. Let's just say I've come close a couple of times to getting a bounty on my head since last night. Barely managed to execute evasive manoeuvres in time.

I don't ram people purposly but the fact that if I go a SANE speed and accidently hit someone I'm then blackslisted from that system for a full WEEK is insanity. When you can be blacklisted from a system for a week due to ONE accident then its a speed limit.

I respectfully disagree, since there is no speed limit per se. You can boost as much as you want to go around get people scared of how fast you go, it's won't hurt you. What will hurt you is when you hit into somebody while going above the "recommended" speed. It's not a limit though.

Its not recommended if you get punished for hitting someone by accident when going above it. Its like saying there's no speed limit in Real Life as you'll only get introuble if the police see you. Your still breaking the speed limit if you go over it. What I don't understand is why it had to apply to the NPCs. Just make it apply only to players so those of us in Solo don't get punished.

Well then you don't get punished for speeding, you get punished for reckless flying with subsequent incident.

so people now complaining about having to fly carefully in the NFZ? damn you folks... you always find something to cry about it

speed limit is fair and it was needed, as a trader it doesnt affect my income/h rates

learn to fly instead of just complain on the forums

Nothing is fair in this game since they removed offline mod. I want my money back ;-)

I'm carrying on as I always did - proper "balls'n'all" docking technique. Every now and again I have to pay a fine for bashing another ship, but no biggie.

Not really like a speed limit in real life, you can go whizzing past security vessels at any speed you like and they don't care. It's only an issue when you hit someone.
:
If you've ever gone skiing you should know the rule that the person lower down the slope has absolute priority. If you hit them from above, it's your fault regardless of if they swerved/stopped/whatever. That doesn't mean that being further up the slope than another person is illegal, just that the onus is on the person further up to be responsible.
:
If you chose to go faster than 100m/s in the NFZ then the onus is on you to avoid collisions. If you are unsure of your ability to do that, slow down or suffer the consequences.

No, there is a speed limit in real life, and just like in real life you can choose to break it and deal with the consequences if caught, at least Elite doesn't have speed cameras... yet...

Yep

I'm employing a top secret tactic - which I will share for free - called "Codename: Speed Limit Be Damned I'll Go As Fast As I Like" ;)

There are (unfounded) rumours that I employ this rule on some highways as well from time to time...

In Elite - don't hit anyone.
In Life - don't hit anyone, and don't get seen/photographed.
