Speed limit is way to low and unfair

l wasn't even aware there was a restriction! I've been happily boosting away on four pips like always.

So if the ruling only applies when you hit people it feels like a really well thought out solution. I play in solo so station rammers are not a problem. This seems to have addressed that issue in open without penalty in solo. Unless you're a tardy pilot I guess!

Good work FD. I keep finding more and more nice little tweaks in this update.

Factualy wrong the longer undocking times adds up there for over time it will take more time to do trade routes therefore less income per hour.

You do realise that you can go as fast as you like with no consequences as long as you don't have a collision? The only time this impacts on your docking speeds is if the area is congested and you are worried there might be a collision, so you have to slow down.

Yeah sure losing 10 seconds per docking will probably drop your income in a significant fashion... I mean come one, yes it is slower but so what, 1% slower? Besides, nothing forces you to go slow: it forces you to not hit people above a certain speed, that's different.

What I don't understand still is why this has to apply to the NPCs there's no griefing if you hit an NPC and besides sometimes the system authority vessles will litterly drop down into you while scanning you.

That's all fine and good until the AI comes right up to your face without enough time to slow down.

So you were going at high speed and weren't checking your surroundings?

Hey Folks, I found that SUV-Driver that doesn't need to own one!

so people now complaining about having to fly carefully in the NFZ? damn you folks... you always find something to cry about it

speed limit is fair and it was needed, as a trader it doesnt affect my income/h rates

learn to fly instead of just complain on the forums

I always fly safely when docking (unless I'm carrying illicit cargo), but the speeding limit is too low.

Make this "recommended speed" a bit faster. It could stay at 100 for Anacondas and Type 9's, but 120 instead of 100 would be a big improvement for medium size ships.

Yes I know it only has an effect if you have a collision, and only has serious consequences if the collision results in the other ship's destruction. But the reason why it was introduced was to overcome station-ramming griefers. Now all the griefer has to do is to collide with you with a damaged sidewinder and if you're slightly over the limit you get a bounty and an angry station. The limit needs to accomodate normal careful flying.

It's a good idea. Just that the value is too low for practical use. Seriously, does anyone enter the docking port in a Cobra, Viper, Vulture, at less than 100?

Another change is that the maximum range for requesting docking permission has been decreased from 10kM to 7.5kM. Why? Is there a reason for this?

Is the docking computer exempt from the speed limit? (Maybe from the ramming rule too?)
I think I saw a few videos of it happily boosting around stations and the "Speeding" sign was not displayed. It only started obeying the speed limit when going through the mailslot at ~98m/s.

So true. I never hit anybody in the no fire zone except for the docking slot maybe and there I have less than 100 m/s. Even the security ist easy to avoid if you dont fly brain afk or drunken, they never ram me on purpose and evade by themselves if they get too close. I had no problems at all, not with Anaconda and T9 and not with Vuture oder Cobra. I clearly don't see a problem here, so speed limit if fine for me.

Yup its exempt which is why its now mandatory for any sane person. Now we just need it to handle undocking so we can actually undock faster than watching paint dry.

I don't ram people purposly but the fact that if I go a SANE speed and accidently hit someone I'm then blackslisted from that system for a full WEEK is insanity. When you can be blacklisted from a system for a week due to ONE accident then its a speed limit.

You only get a bounty (and therefore "Blacklisted") if both of the following conditions hold true:

  1. You are speeding (e.g. over 100m/s)
  2. You destroy another ship while speeding and near the station entrance

Here is the corresponding change log piece:

We’ve also been reviewing the feedback from the addition of the reckless flying crime inside starport no fire zones. We are looking at changing this from the current implementation in the following ways:

- If the collision is shield damage only then no crime is committed.
- If hull damaged is caused then it is a fine.
- If a ship is destroyed then it is a bounty offence.

If you get a bounty while not both conditions hold true, it's likely a bug, not a flaw in the concept, and should be reported.

I wasn't sure about this in the beta but am really enjoying it. Keeping my speed down when I enter and leave a station gives me a real feel for it being a busy place with ships entering and leaving all going about their business, whereas before it was just a slalom course.

Throughout 1.3 beta and in the release version I have always docked rather fast often boosting the last 1km into the station itself and have never hit another ship. I have bounced on the cattle grid once or twice but that's it. Leaving the station I tend to go a bit slower, but only until I'm in the letter box.

I do not recommend boosting when you are in the letterbox though. Unless you like sparks and smoke.

The thing is an anaconda or t9 dwarf all other ships so it pretty much instantly goes to the destroyed state even if you bump them over 100ms. Also its not just near the station entrence its the entire huge ass no fire zone, they should have dramaticly reduced the no fire zone to go with this change as it takes for ever to leave the no fire zone. I mean once your no longer masslocked your still in the nofire zone.

Flying a multi million credit ship like the Anaconda but unable to avoid collisions in the no fire zone in open space around stations? Seriously, you should learn how to fly!

AHHH. Now all becomes clear.
So I can boost to get to my Jump point as long as Hit NO ONE.
Now this is a great Idea.
That need some head banging to get in my THICK SCULL.

That also explains why the traffic in the stations seems a bit more controlled.
I should read the forum more.

Ok slapped wrist so lets claify the issue.

DO NOT SPEED IN STATION. OK

You can Boost away from station JUST CHECK SCANNER CAREFULLY.

So if you Hit someone or something at above the limit YOU GET FINED.

Regards Lankspeed.
