Cockpits look amazing but...Readon

Turning individual systems on and off should take a little time, like half a second each. There should be no need to turn all systems off when you dock, but you can, then you can just press a button to restore all the systems at once (resulting in a boot up sequence.)

When you purchase a ship and power it up for the first time, or power it up after servicing, or having turned off the power source for whatever reason there could be a longer sequence that includes extra diagnostic checks.

Any boot up sequence should reflect the actual condition of your ship, rather than be a standard "always the same no mater what" sequence.

I agree. It can be a strategic decision too - what you power down during docking, especially when the walking expansion comes into play. Things drain power... that power keeps being drained whilst it's powered on (rather like leaving your headlights or radio on with the car engine off). If you expect to need to get away in a hurry, you leave more things powered up, if you're expecting to be a while on the planet / station you turn stuff off.

It should take longer to power up a damaged system (sometimes it may even fail to boot!) than a working one. You might be forced to keep something on because you know if you turn it off, it might not come back up again until it's repaired / replaced.

Plenty gameplay options here. It doesn't (shouldn't) be a standard cut scene that will get boring after 3 views, annoying after 10, and maddening after 20.

I like this :D

But i wud have the longest start sequence when you start the game again, but as long you are playing it shud just do a shorter version like a sleeper mode when you not at the controls/pilot seat of the ship.

Seconds it shud be in the options menu off the game as a on/off option :)

A distinction empire/federation built ship wud also add a lil immersion, :) but this might already been covered since all playable ship cockpit will have a lil difference in look to it.

The problem (as I see it) is that it's always the same sequence no matter what mech you're in, lasting exactly the same time, with exactly the same voice. Only the appearance of the cockpit changes. It starts to feel like some sort of nervous twitch you can't stop doing. Even a small amount of variation would help, then you could have the immersion without the irritation!

I was hoping it would be a different sequence and voice for each ship of course....That would be preferable and as you state it would stop the irritation :)

The thing you want people to say is....That's my favourite ship and I never get bored hearing those engines power up to life

...but I do get bored by those constant warning lights! The garage robs me from just the simple troubleshooting... That's it, this old wreck's being traded-in at the next shipyard!
:)

Oh look a damaged ship drifting dead in space:smilie: think of the salvage?

Scan scan again yup! dead in the water:D

As you approach readying your towing grapples your console bleeps an alarm to alert you to the fact that this dead ship is powering systems up :mad:

I hope there are the options to power down properly but also give realistic times of powering back up to give it a balanced risk from both players point of view.

Running totally dark in an asteroid field could mask your ship especially if said field is rich in metals and isotopes.....

Then you realise that your ships shields take a while to charge and you have in fact just killed yourself! :)

Cockpits look amazing but...Will there be a power up function?

In other words you enter the ship and the cockpits may look pretty dull...Then when you power up all the systems light up and come to life at a nice pace, checking systems.... powering functions etc ?

I think that would add to the atmosphere of the ship...

Any thoughts ?

Nice idea, and around 5 seconds sounds about right. Great for the realistic touch and immersive functionality.

And it could sometimes not start, like a cranky old car, if it needs servicing.

Hahahaha neat idea, like it.

Give me realism, and immersion!!

However, just to point out that electronics may not function in the way they do now, in a thousand years and may be 100% reliable...Indeed the same goes for mechanical engineering...Imagine alloys and polymers in one thousand years...Possibly self engineering and maintaining.

A thousand years is an awful long time to evolve technology, given where we were just a hundred years ago...

But I do still like your idea, its great. :)

We already have self repairing materials. Give it another 1000 years and just imagine...

5 seconds to power a system up?

You folks have never worked on real aircraft systems have you....;)

The more complicated systems get the more buggy they'll get the more you'll have to power off and on to get them working again:D

5 seconds is nothing to do with realism, more the maximum tolerance of player to a delay every time they launch;)

I would be happy to spend 5 seconds listening to some cool startup effects after I flip my engine start switches! FD can have those 5 seconds gladly! :)
