What would you like to see from a luxury explorer?
We will assume the capabilities (jump range) are about on par with the Asp or Conda, along with similar layout of internals. Who would you like to manufacture it?
What I would like:
Gutamaya Imperial Explorer
These massive, majestic ships are rightly seen as the crowning glory of the Imperial Navy Research Department, and represent the ultimate in opulence, taste and engineering achievement. As such, they cost a packet, and are only seen sporadically. Originally designed for deep space exploration, they are also seen around the core worlds as status symbols and used to quickly ferry VIPs where the jump range of a Cutter or Interdictor is deemed inadequate.
Roughly Anaconda size, and cost
Hammerhead design, hefty nacelles
Can fit a hefty (Class 7) scoop
Explorer that's pretty decent in combat, possibly paying a bit in armour and shields compared to other large craft of the size
Pretty fast for a huge ship
Zorgon Peterson Urutu
ZPG Group R&D developed the Urutu as a lightweight, luxurious ship made for deep space travel, scouting and bounty hunting based off their old stylish Moccasin light-trader vessel and the Fer-de-Lance. While cheaper and less formidable than the Fer-de-Lance, it still offers luxurious internal fittings like the ZPG's higher end ships, and has decent firepower, and is often chosen as a long range cruising craft by bounty hunters. It is often called the 'Special Moccasin' due to the visual similarities to the other ship.
Between Cobra and Asp in size, but costs more than the Asp (~12+ million?)
Further forward canopy than the FdL, but not quite in the front like a Hauler or Adder. Wider 'wingspan' than other ZPG ships.
Internals slightly more tonnage than the Vulture (5, 4, 3, 2, 2, 1)
1 Large, 1 Med, 2 Small HP - 3 Utility
5 Distro, Thrusters
4 FSD, Sensors, PP
3 Life Support
16T tank
Reasonably fast (faster than Vulture, but much less manoeuvrable)
Less shield than the Vulture, low armour thanks to light hull (around 92T)*
Zorgon Peterson Mocassin
The Mocassin was an entry in the market for a long range, luxurious trader suitable for running exotic goods from one end of inhabited space to the other, and as a 'fashion' ship. The ship is all purpose, but relatively lightly armed so was built for speed and style. Explorers have also taken to it, as it is more pleasant to live in than most of its peers and can be fitted to jump just as far.
Between Cobra and Asp in size, but costs more than the Asp
Further forward canopy than the FdL, but not quite in the front like a Hauler or Adder. Similar profile to the Adder, but more stylish and sleek. Similar to the Urutu but mainly differing in profile from the wing layout.
Internals more total tonnage than the Cobra, but still below the Asp (5, 4, 4, 3, 3, 2, 1)
1 Med, 4 small HP - 3 Utility
5 Thrusters
4 FSD, PP, Distro
3 Life Support, Sensors
16T tank
Fast, but not too manoeuvrable
Less shields than the Asp, low armour thanks to light hull (around 100T)**
*Class 4 FSD with A internals, full weapons and 4A shields, apart from scanners and life support at D would give this around 29LY of jump with this base hull mass I think.
**This one would have lighter weapons and pdist and sensors, so the hull mass is up a bit (along with probably armour) to not push the distance too far to exceed the Asp.
