The Powerplay discussion thread.

Powerplay - this is the most confusing thing I have ever seen.

just looked at the new stuff in 1.3.... what the hell is all this stuff?! What does it mean?!?! I've not been following the forums but I am so utterly confused by what all this new stuff is or what I am supposed to be doing?

It looks like some sort of Civilisation 5-thing (incidentally, I love Civ5 so no harm there) but on special Confusion-Pills? What does it all mean? Is there some sort of tutorial to tell me what to do? How to play? What all the stuff means? Gah.

Utterly confused and frustrated. Rather than try and work out what the hell all this stuff is I just closed ED. Tl;dr - sorry FD.

I just picked Zemina Torval (she reminded me of the new M from 007) and pledged. Was in a fed station and was instantly Hostile.. though I was able to get a Powerplay Contact and pick up some trade doohickeys on my way over to their HQ in Synteini. I had Federal Agents tailing me the whole way, and cashed them in. I will try and play some more tonite and figure out how we expand into the Pirate lord's lands....

Look at some YouTube videos. It's similar to games with command points an hold. The more system you hold the better your powers rating.

Prepare - Do this action action to prepare a sector for expansion
Expansion - Do this action to take control
Fortify Do this action so it harder to take by other factions once controled.

After a week if the criteria for the system is met for that action the action will take place opening up the other action and change the map. I am also guessing they will start patrolling the system if it is new making smuggling harder.

You can fight rival factions try to take there systems.

Video guides are useless - I wish people would stop posting video guides. Just give me the script and let me read at my own pace instead of watching the captions slowly scroll past (hint - not everyone can hear/understand the audio for various reasons)

Thanks for the presso - I must say though that the first few slides are just adding to the confusion. If it needs a 32 page presentation to explain what the hell is going on, it sounds pretty awful.

This is very frustrating for something that should be fun :(

The official video tutorials are not good enough. Frontier should really have put more effort in.

Powerplay Expansion video.. 4minutes long. Really? Seriously?

So it's not Powerplay that's the problem, it's the fact that you have to bother learning how it works?

  1. Choose a Power
  2. Run missions for the power - most don't pay directly, but you get merits which give eventual benefits, and you can still make cash from other activities while doing them
    • Prepare support in areas that will be expansion candidates
    • Contribute to expansion activity
    • Fortify your Power's holdings
    • Undermine the opponent Power's holdings (usually by combat), so they can't support their territory.
That's it in a nutshell

I think the problem is that the trailer shows one thing and we're stuck doing some rather overly complicated thing instead.

I would much rather just have a powerplay bulletin board thing like the trailer suggests available instead of having to click around the UI like crazy in order to figure out what to even do.

forgive me but you are very approximate :)
I am in troubles too:
I just pledged with Denton Patreus, and now for the preparation I have to "hands in with Marked Military Arms". I docked to the selected system station and they tell me that "I do not have Marked Military Arms to deliver".
Herm... What are those marked military arms? What do I have to do?

Exactly.. There needs to be some kind of available tasks screen that shows what opportunities are available and where. I don't want to be manually trawling through the other power screens trying to figure out which systems are in conflict and where I am needed.

Its pretty poor design IMO and making the whole thing more complicated than it needs to be. The 4 minute video explaining the expansion process is whoa fully inadequate and seems to fudge over the fact that there is a lack of player information available to us and assume quite a bit in order to fulfil its task of delivering a training video that doesn't really help.

I realise some people get it - good for you but that doesn't excuse the lack of good documentation and video presentations that are so desperately needed for something Frontier clearly put a lot of thought and time into.

Jeez.. what happened to the simple space trading game!

I was going to edit my post but I guess I'll make another one.

To FD's credit, the videos are well done and the speaker speaks very clearly.
