Also, I believe that the current proposal means that if you have a bounty against you, you are stuck in "all". So you can't kill another player then go "hide" in solo mode, if that was one of your concerns.

Unless mistaken and FD changed the plans this isn't quite true - for a period of time you're put into the all group to give other real BHs a chance to catch you. How long this is I have no idea but that was my understanding.

ETA:

  • Multiplayer - crimes against human commanders that cause a bounty to exist make the criminal able to be matched with any other human commander present in the “all players” group
  • This punishment lasts for a set amount of game time

*solo offline doesn't appear in the groups proposal but it will be a valid play option and so I have included here.

No doubt people will jump straight in to the full multiplayer scenario, but I do wonder how many people when they first boot up the game will be playing in single player/solo offline just to get a 'feel' for the game before embarking on a multi player online experience?

I voted single/solo offline mode for this very reason. I'd rather get used to the flight mechanics of the player starting ship, and also get a basic feel for other stock game features, for example:- travelling to other systems, trading, NPC reactions to player in certain situations etc.
I wouldn't want to charge into the multiplayer side of things in a 'Bull in a China Shop' type of scenario....most embarrassing for me and other players I would imagine. :D
I probably will be dipping my toes into (so to speak) the multiplayer, but I'd want to be fairly/fully aware of some of the main pilot awareness skills beforehand in an environment that won't affect/irritate other players first.
In short...Passing a self inflicted driving test before allowing myself the pleasure of 'the open road'! :)

Jack :)

For me, it completely depends on the funding model.

If subs are needed to play online, then I'll play offline (I don't beleive this is FD's intent but haven't seen what conclusion(!) the DDF came to on this topic).

If items (except cosmetics) are for sale in the cash-shop that are not for sale in the game, or that are difficult/ time-consuming to obtain in-game, I'll play solo online. Same if the cash-for-credits idea is even remotely unbalancing (and I think it will be but will give it the benefit of doubt initially).

Otherwise I look forward to playing in the 'All' group with all of you lovely and unlovely people.

I'm sure we'll all help each other out with advice, so don't be shy :)

Ninja bump - the poll is still open which means new people to the forum can still vote.

Seemed rather pertinent given the news recently.

Was searching for it for a comment in the DDF section - didn't realise it was a rather low response, but with more backers here perhaps people will vote to give FD a better idea of how many people are going to be unhappy.

10% at the moment are affected.

Good idea Liqua. What isn't reflected in the poll though are cases like mine; I plan a combination of probably mostly solo online with some All, but would also have used solo offline for "playing about" -trying things I probably wouldn't risk in the phone version where you don't have saves you can reload etc. I was also looking forward to the possibility of user generated mods, which obviously won't be permitted ever in online mode. Plus stuff like camera hacks if third person isn't implemented in game.

Thanks for bumping this Liqua,
I just read this though...

We have always said the way to play the game is online - indeed it says so in the quote of me being circulated. The choice was develop the game in the way we wanted, or not. Trying to make it offline would have made both experiences worse than we were willing to tolerate. We had to make the decision and have done so. I would say that an offline rewrite of the game is unlikely for the future.

:( I really didn't expect this. Wanted something to play when I can't get on-line, which is often... I hope iron-man gets implemented or there will be no point in me playing at all. Don't want to be in a universe full of immortals, or to be immortal myself like is planned for normal mode. That would be totally boring...

this really shows where the market for this game is at the moment, I understand the old school offline no friends in internet space players,, but I feel to evolve is a good thing, to remix the game for the modern market and create a great social on-line experience.

I can't answer your poll.

I will play on both Open and on Solo. It depends on my Anxiety level. If I'm too stressed I'll play Solo, if I feel I can't take whatever they have to dish out and losing a ship is less painful I'll go open.... so there is no answer for a mix of the 2, and IF I join a group that may alter the answer again.

I voted all players but that could/would change to private group depending on situations. There are times I just do not feel like dealing with people blockading community goals for "reasons".
