Diamondback Scout vs. Vulture?

I'm looking for a new ship to fly around and do naval missions, which IIRC involves either light cargo delivery or Anaconda assassination. At the same time I hope my ship could take a beating if some naughty Cmdrs decide to pull me over and tickle my rear.

So I'm not torn between Diamondback Scout and Vulture. Diamondback seems like a more agile and a bit slower Viper and can run the classic 2xPulse+2xRailgun loadout, but Vulture is basically a flying tank.

Any suggestions? Any "catches" that aren't shown in the numbers? Money is not problem, btw.

I find myself to be a dedicated Vulture pilot. I was attracted to the Scout for some of the same reasons I like the Vulture. Agility, and small size. But when I tested out the Scout it kinda left me flat. It simply could not do what the Vulture does. I can get the same cargo space on either, so the only thing I loose is the Jump Range of the Scout. That wasn't enough to endure class 3 shields again. If I had to stay in that price range I would likely go for the Cobra, it has more versatility.

Scout's only advantage over the Vulture (it seems to me) is jump range. The Vulture wins in every other way. "Flying tank" is an understatement! Its ramming capability (plus cockpit protection and resilience to ramming) is often overlooked.

Thus if you don't need to fly long distances regularly, the choice is very easy. And even then, setting aside 45 minutes to travel 150-200 light years isn't too bad once in a while; it's only work. :)

No comparison between them. They are designed for different purposes.
Vulture, combat.
Scout, scouting.
You can fit a cargo hold to the Vulture and it'll then do what you need.

DB Explorer with 1 large 2 mid is a little better if A graded with everything else.

The big DB handles very badly compared to both the scout and the vulture though, its also unbelievably slow lol, Couldn't believe how slow it was.

scouting what exactly? There are no scouting missions afaik, just: kill, pirate, and postman. I guess you could role play...

The explorer is a sea cow. No doubt about it. Its probably the least fun I've had flying any ship.

They really need to add variants, theres so much room for people who love a particular type of ship to make it amazing, i'd love to come across people in a tricked out T7 or a much faster DBX - instead I think here comes some $$ :(

You learn about scouting when you have a ship and cargo you don't want to lose...

Vulture is wise choose. 2x C3 weapon class :)

I'm having an absolute blast with the scout. Sure the shields aren't as tough as the Vultures but really if you are even a half decent pilot you can use its agility to get on the tail of just about anything. The vulture is a great ship, but its tiny jump range is the thing

that really puts me off. Makes it a pain to move it around the galaxy.......mine is parked about 150 ly away and I've been meaning to go and retrieve it but I'm having so much fun in the Scout I think I'll probably end up selling it.

The other thing that puts me off about the Vulture is it's power issues. Takes a lot of tweaking to get the best out of.......didn't have any issues at all with the scout in this regard.

I have both. I use the Vulture strictly for combat.
I use the DB Scout for smuggling missions with some light combat thrown in for good measure. The Scout has great Silent Running potential. As such, I can enter and exit stations without being scanned (well most of the time :)).
I'm in to Smuggling missions at the moment as they pay well, and therefore the Scout is my "main" ship. If a high value combat mission comes up, I will usually return home, and swap it for my Vulture.

If money is not a problem...why not have both?

I like the scout if I want to travel a long ways for any reason and I need moderate firepower..mines equiped with 16 cargo just like my vulture and has a 22 ly range.
But my vutlure is my bread and butter fighter....any missions or places that I know I will definately be fighting, I always hop into my vulture....its the tank of small/medium ships.

The DBX is a very cool looking ship. 1 large and 2 mid weapons is very cool. Enough cargo space for missions - perfect. Wonderful jump range with weapons and cargo. To bad those weapons can't be used against anything than other DBX. Most other ships simply out turn the DBX and the rest simply out guns it. The DBX reminds me of the T-9 in combat.

With a little lower speed than the DBS and almost the same maneuverability it would be a hell of a ship.

To the OP: The Vulture is perfect for those Navy rank missions. The DBS has no chance against bigger ships with turreted beam lasers.

Go for the Vulture, a lot bang for your buck.

BTW: I own a DB Explorer too. I use it for exploring but the large hardpoint combined with to mc's will give you a blast of power, i think even more than the scout is capable of. If other ships try to outurn you because of the maneuverability --> FA-Off. But the Vulture is still the better choice for Conda killing.

Well if you can afford a half-decently kitted Vulture go for that, it's way beyond a DBS for combat.
It's as dull as a mid-range Passat though.

Ha.....yes "dull" that's definitely correct imo. People say that Vulture is just about unmatched in combat in its class...and this is true. This is really important in the the PvP environment I guess but for PvE it really doesn't matter whether you have a Vulture or a DBS. If you are even half way decent you should be able to take out any NPC ship in either without much trouble. I just find the DBS a lot more fun to fly.

The vulture is a better fighter big guns/shields and it turns well, but the scout has better options for internals (if you want fuel scoop/interdictor). The scout can also leave most other ships standing to either escape or chase a target down, vulture's not so good for this.

The Scout is more fun, the vulture is more efficient.

Definitely.

(+1 for sig, I had one of those interceptors as a kid - caps behind the missile, good times - always used to annoy me that it was green and not white tho :) )

I re-watched UFO via I love film before it was swallowed and ruined by amazon. The series is still worth a go but like thunderbirds you can't help noticing that all the main characters chain smoke continuously, which is jarring to see on telly now.

Have rep in return purple hair is my thing.
