Personally I think that you should probably be fined for boosting inside the station, although it wouldn't stop any of us would it? :D

Given the number of stories around from people who have, at one time or another, accidentally hit boost while docking, I think that would be a bit harsh :D

Whilst feeling good after yesterday, I have traded my Vulture in for an Asp, so better get this entry in before I regain my senses.

CMDR Rusticolus
"My bare Asp"
Asp

Now just need to trade for a while to afford the 6A scoop...so I may be in staging for a while as I tend to get bored trading and end up exploring instead ;)

Good luck CMDR!

If your Hauler time is anything to go by then you'll smash my Asp record. I'm curious to see how well you can do compared to the Anacondas.

I'm pretty sure that I could get my time down to about 10h, maybe a little faster with 1.3 updates. Anything much faster than that would put you out of my reach. :)

While ElectricZ recovers from his jet lag, let me do one last update to the Unofficial Big Board.

On the main board, Cmdr Rusticolus (mjmw) swept in to 6th place in the Hauler Running Bare, leaving many of the Asp finishers wondering whether they've got the best out of the 40m+ difference in ship values...

Cmdr Ethelred Unread has finally left the bar in the pre-flight staging area and headed for the core, followed closely by our two new entrants, Chance- and Serraphix. Good luck to all three!

And finally to the pre-flight staging area. A special welcome to new entrant Sodanar - welcome to the party! There are also three old hands lining up for another run: Mangel swapping his Hauler for a Diamondback, mjmw swapping his Hauler for an Asp, and, oh, yes...

I'm finally in a position to confirm the plan for my next run, so here's the official entry :) :
Commander name: Samwell Drakhyr
Ship Name: White Lightning
Ship Type: Asp
Planned departure: 0800 GMT, Saturday 20 June

Good luck Drakhyr!

I can see that my time is going to be seriously challenged this month. I may need to cut my expedition east short. :D

Woah, Drakyhr continues to make things easy for me! Wonder how long he'll keep this up. I mean, I got a whole roll of this blue tape... ;)

I will say that's a pretty awesome run there, mjmw! As soon as Drakhyr stops enabling my laziness, I promise I'll get back to work. You know, sometime...

(again, can't rep Drak enough for doing this - definitely have to come up with a better way to say thanks than taking advantage of his good deeds. ;) )

I managed 0 minutes of trading before jumping in the Asp and taking her for a spin...so I have some initial impressions. Firstly, it isn't very manoeuvrable with small, light thrusters which makes precision scooping interesting...

Of course, I started out with the 8+2 fuel tank combo, and all I can say is that anyone taking that all the way to Sag A* has my respect! I am not even 100% sure it will make 2 full range jumps, and if it did, you may need to scoop pretty damn quickly as you will be sucking down fumes! I ran roughly 8 kylies and had to re-plot twice as I didn't have enough fuel for a second jump at a brown dwarf.

So, 8+4 might make more sense as you have a little bit of breathing room if you don't scoop perfectly, but then I wonder if the std 12T tank makes more sense to get you over the occasional double unscoopable. You will have a slow refill afterwards but that is quicker than potentially 2 re-plots. Things for me to test over the coming weeks :)

Finally, to state the bleedin' obvious, an A6 scoop is essential for a quick time. It would be possible to be fast with a B6, but I was flying the very fine line of being pulled into the star trying to max out the scoop, and then working hard trying to balance the heat to get efficient use of the FSD. I had lots of sparks during the first hour... It would require a lot of concentration for the whole run and isn't conducive to getting a smooth, efficient rhythm going.

Raiko, are you seeing any performance issues when you open the GalMap? I am still getting one processor core pretty much maxing out when I view anywhere near the centre of the map

Finally there! \o/ Now I will wait for CMDR Chance- to get those selfies. :D
Took me "only" 1d 14h 47m 22s.

It was a long run and I had only two emergency stops. Which were because of me microsleeping between jumps, lol. Don't fly and sleep kids!
Now it's time to slowly get back to Goldstein Port and sell all those data for community goal... I smell riches and I will be hoarding all those credits. Rawr.

Congrats CMDR!

Aye! Closing in on those last 8k ly as we speak. You and I will be doing this again in much more expensive loadouts and when we don't have other responsibilites xD

Congrats, CMDR! Don't forget to PM me your mailing address for your very own Buckyball Run A* bumper sticker!

I wish I hadn't been working today. I could have finished on time with Serra. Next time I will allocate for a better fsd and have enough time for a straight shot. I think I may be addicted

Pretty much yes, it's still usable for me though.

When I open the Galmap I get one core at about 80%.

I can manipulate the map though, and it settles down after a few seconds :

Plotting a route takes core 1 up to 100%, but the map is responsive enough to pick a different star if the plot is too slow.

Thanks for that. I am not getting the settle down after a few secs, or even 90 mins, which makes it fairly unresponsive and fundamentally locked up when plotting. My processor is about 3 yrs old, an i5-3570K at 3.4GHz, so I would expect it to cope with this. Think its time to dig through the bug threads and add my data to the 'known issue' :(

Perhaps try changing your view settings.

For what it's worth my processor is the Haswell equivalent of yours, an i5 4670k. I've never bothered overclocking, so I think that it generally runs at 3.8GHz during ED, due to the turbo mode OC.

First off, hello ElectricZ! I am one of the dozen new racers. or i will be, when I eventually Get off the ground:D.
The problem I currently have is whether I should upgrade all of my components to A or just a select few and get the lightest version of the rest. Suggestions?

Second off, I got bored yesterday and read the entirety of the Buckyball run 4 thread. The "Bootlegging race" concept is something I want to try. Is there anyone who organizes a race like that besides you? I am defenantly going to retread your steps for that race, but is there a similar Event where someone is keeping score?

Finally, Shameless plug time!:)
Posted an E:D video, but with a twist... check it out!
