The Powerplay discussion thread.

This is the new Elite, I am just sitting in the dock. Waiting another 28 minutes for 25 tickets. Oh what fun, it is not even worth doing the combat. 3 hours and I had 98 merits!!! I might send in a ticket asking for an in game refund of 30 million credits!!! :(

I think you are doing something wrong. In fact I know. But I also firmly believe that it is great fun to figure it out for yourself.

I'm a trader and I have to say that this 20 ton limit is not good. Of course, I don't like being pirated, no trader does. But we need pirates and this is a profession killer. I like pirates. Nothing gets the blood pumping like being prey. We need bad guys. Try playing any game like this without there being bad guys and you will find it will get boring quick.

So yeah, FD definitely needs to fix this. This is not good and is not right.

I agree with the OP.

For me PP has all the excitement and attraction of (Paint Drying, Cricket, Golf, Bowls & Curling) all rolled into one = deadly dull and boring.
Stopped after a few days in Beta because it was clear to me that it was a terrible time-sink and under exciting/rewarding.

But that's just me, there are bound to be those that absolutely love it. Good luck to them.

im aware of the 20 tonne limit, i still want to see how long it takes to take half a t9 load, until i see it taking forever and not the couple of minutes i think it would take i dont think this change is as bad as its being made out to be.

Well I'm sorry to inform you that you are asking for the impossible, though you can try to simulate the effect by mining. Scooping up fragments will probably provide a good insight.

Also, try to undermine a powerplay faction by pirating their cargo, you will notice how fast the cops catch up just by trying to scoop less than 10 tons of cargo.

Love your work here. This describes my piracy to a tee and I suspect 90 % of other pirates. I have always said this since alpha but those naysayers talking about piracy don't have a clue how much effort, skill and timing is required to pirate players. I usually usually say try it for yourself and see then come back and detract and naysay with some idea of the profession.

Completely agree.

Amusingly the station bombing tactic was used by the OPs group during the Diso CG...

That said, piracy is the hardest profession to get right. Both for the player and for the devs. So I welcome any discussions that get that balance right.

Please do not discuss the cause of the patch that is in question, we are focusing on how to fix the issue. If you have a personal issue my syndicate and I, throw that accusation at me in PM and I will sort it out. Also, to my knowledge, we did not use the station bombing tactic during the Diso CG. Please provide screenshot or video to me in PM if it is the case, then I will gladly discuss the issue with my syndicate.

Thus, to relate back to topic, please focus on the discussion of the issue and its solution, not finger-pointing blame.

And I was in George Lucas station when CODE did a big litter drop there on May 4th. So to some extent the OP is a cause of his own misfortune.

Again, like I replied to the thread you replied to, keep this a discussion of the issue and its solution, not finger pointing at the cause. Also, if you have solid evidence that it was Code which apparently released a large mass of cargo on May 4th, PM me with said evidence or use the Code complaint forum. To my defense, I never participated in station-bombing, I am aware of the tactic. Also it is very likely that other players used the said tactic in George Lucas, to accuse Code for being responsible simply because it is a system where Code aggregates does not seem like a sound argument.

Let's keep this discussion productive, I don't see how is blaming people for the patch a productive solution to the given issue.

Again, if you have a personal issue with me or the Code, contact me via PM or use the Code complaint forum, this thread is not used for the purpose of flame-baiting, profession bashing, player group bashing, or trolling.

It would be cool, I'm just a bit worried they would end up sounding like video game characters. It's hard to explain what I mean, but you know when a video game character speaks the voice actors always seem to have a kind of distracted, flat cadence. It would bother me if these people with impressive portraits sounded like a session actor squeezing in an extra paycheque between recording two radio ads for carpet.

Powerplay Question: No merit in system defence?

So here I am in super cruise in a system controlled by my pledge. I come across an enemy faction ship (or five!), pull them out of SC and boil them up nicely. Minor bounty granted, but no merit. Is this intended? I don't get in my pledge's good books by defending his systems? Anyone else think this is odd?

you cant get 5 people together to highlight with video proof that it takes forever to collect say 200 tonnes with the 20 tonne limit in place? good luck with getting it changed, im not fussed if goes back to the way it was or it doesnt

Thank you for your warm wishes, and I will take that suggestion into consideration to strengthen the argument.

Then it wouldn't work and every fan would know it. It would have to be done well and budgeted for the long term.

Another thought.
How about a look-a-like competition for the PP leaders at the next games exhibition?
Might be good PR for ED. And fun for fans.

Am I the only player who feels that Powerplay was an epic amount of effort from Frontier, on something that is optional to most players?

For sure you aren't alone. But then again they are apparently making the game they want and so we shouldn't be surprised if they take it in a direction the player base didn't anticipate. PP was a gamble because it wasn't really what the community was asking for. And here I must wonder if the staff of ED are as divided on PP as the forum is. FD might be able to improve and build upon PP over the coming patches but I can't help but think that there where more obvious areas that they could have focused on.

While I'm no expert on the issue, it seems like an emergency response to a problem that was caused by all the cargo appearing at once.

As much as you may need to do piracy as fast as possible, that's a serious problem that's higher on the priority totem pole.

Perhaps this gives you more of an incentive to group up to hit targets? Piracy doesn't need to be a lonely profession.

That being said, it does kinda make sense that you can't have 200 tons of cargo fit through a tiny hole in an infinitely tiny fraction of a second. It would probably be better to have the cargo spill out in a stream, such that as you collect it, there's more to collect. (and then when the authority shows up, you put space between you and them)

I've wondered whether it'd be worth it or too much for FDEV to create videos for the Galnet, but audio entries would be amazing if they got some good voice actors.

I work alone most of the time. Many does. So why not test this out as a single pirate and post the result here?

If the test is made on wing basis, the outcome can leave us loners in the shadow.

I would still like to see a statement from FD whether the canister limit was introduced *solely* with anti exploit in mind..

I got a strange feeling that they're motives was driven by something else too.

While I agree that game optimization and then improvement of lower-end gear users should take priority, I do not believe that killing a profession is the way to do so. Since no trader will stand having the commodity market screen reduced to five commodities to reduce lag. No Bounty Hunters will stand for having 50k bounty targets flat across the board to optimize memory usage. No explorer will stand for replacing the star models with a copy-and-paste 2D google image. Also that no miner will stand for having only 2 fragments popping out of every asteroids with a total of 10 asteroids per RES/Asteroid Belt.

I believe the preservation of a profession is more important than optimization, for that it is an advertised portion of the game. There is a system requirement ever since the game was released, while optimization efforts are commendable, it should not and need not to sacrifice an entire profession.

For the naysayers who say 20 tons is enough... understand this, coming from a professional pirate who has spent the bulk of his time with this profession...

It can take HOURS to...
a. Find a trader
b. Pull over one of those traders who will finally stop running
c. Get cargo from that trader

One trader. Hours of waiting. To finally get a cargo drop. Because, like it or not... traders are HARD to find in open that actually have something worthwhile. So, when you finally waste hours of your evening to get that one trader... is 20 tons really worth your time?

Sometimes you'll strike it rich and find a busy system that may stay busy for a while. This is rare. It happens for periods but there are long dry stretches where you're roaming around trying to find anything.

So, consider this: 20 tons of Imperial Slaves will net you around 332k for your time. Imperial Slaves are the gold standard for cargo. They're practically as good as it gets. So... say you play for three hours... and collect 332k. That is worth playing for?

I'm not saying it is usually like this. In the past I'd average 250 - 500k in profit an hour in a cobra in North American hours (far less players in North America). That was before the 20 ton nerf. Now it is way, way less.

It is impossible to make a worthwhile pittance of a living as a pirate now.

But pirates aren't rich people so the profitability should be lower.

I have said for a long time illegal and stolen goods need splitting up and one of the factions should be a pirate faction who offers unscannable cargo bays that hold less cargo but slow or negate the police scans.

I like piracy but what kills this game more is the opinion every profession should be equal.

I personally have tried trading and find it dull. I've tried piracy but am rubbish with the interdictor and my chosen profession would be a smuggler if the system worked (I think it almost improved with 1.3 then people backtracked) - flying under the radar trading dodgy goods and ferrying old men with young boys who want to avoid the police... Wait suddenly star wars looks weird!

If you're getting 10% of a T7 cargo for nothing I don't think really there's anything wrong with that.

Actually, if we talk about the in-game state of piracy. It is composed of people with a lot of assets who are looking for reasonable player interaction or very dedicated piracy role-players, or both.

Professions shouldn't be equal in what they earn, that is correct. However their equivalence in their right to exist and function properly to foster a healthy environment should be emphasized and never overlooked, which is what FD did with the 20 cargo limit patch.

In piracy, there is solitary piracy and group piracy. While some pirates may be satisfied with 10%, some are not. Also, when in a group, 10% definitely will not cut it. There's also the circumstance that a pulled over T-9 offers 20 cargo to an Anaconda pirate... I don't see anything short of getting shot out of space with that one.
