E3 2015 speculations for Elite

i can completely agree on that. I have predicted previously that first expansions will be walking around and boarding - it's doable comparingly faster and don't require huge dev hours investment. I know lot of people want landings badly (myself included)...but knowing their vision and amount of work involved...they better get everything else polished and shiny first (including core gameplay).

Yep. From a development viewpoint it makes sense. Just like you and others I wanna go on planets. But it first needs boarding/FPS/atmosphere/stations interior and so on to actually makes sense. It almost feels like planetary might be among the last steps. Not quite yet then.

Walking around your own ship should be relatively straightforward, although exactly what you'd be doing other than admiring the back of your pilot's seat or the bulkhead separating you from the cargo, I'm not sure. Perhaps you could do some manual repairs in a mini-game? While moving around you won't be flying the ship, so that's potentially risky in itself.
Boarding someone else's ship would be a step up from this, even more so if you allow a firefight. Stealing ships would be a nice feature for pirates, although who'd bother with looting cargo when you can loot the whole ship?
Walking around a station "freestyle" I think people would get bored fast. It would have to be procedurally generated, and it wouldn't be long before one set of rooms and corridors looked much like another.
Walking around inside rooms in a station, like a bar, black market or mission briefing room - more doable, but I don't see you gain that much by it; once you leave the room you appear back in your ship (or you can walk... and walk... and walk back. Stations are huge).
GTA-like detail in space stations or on planets... no. GTA cities are hand-crafted by a team of people with a budget two orders of magnitude higher than Frontier, and it still takes them years to complete one.

Wonderin when: Paid-content Thargoid 'explorer' expansion. Gather intel, meet thargoid ships, ged da ...out before dead!

What would you do after landing 10 times on a planet? Looking by the window of your ship? I believe this game needs more actual content or gameplay, not a mere start port on a planet, which is purely cosmetic.

Same thing I do today with the two avalible docking bays + outposts I suppose... (That is, leave populated space behind and go exploring). :D

My point being that if they could make procedurally generated layout for an open-air type surface base, and one air-lock/subsurface type base, we could have significantly more landing envoriments to enjoy docking and undocking in. :)

More content is good too of course.. like better missions, (I haven't seen the 1.3 mission overhaul yet), and Thargoids...

half the money of these blockbuster games are spent into marketing anyway, and most of all, i find older gta to be a lot better that what we got today, you don't need that much money to do a balanced, competitive game, Elite dangerous proofs it

have you seen how much FPS games pops out these days ? the gaming industry seems very good about thoses, i'm sure the frontier DEVs (which seems to be very disciplined and focused compared to others) will handle it just right

I was just thinking that in several newsletter (waaay before the beta stages) there were lotsa pics about different looking exhaust for engines, and canopies and so on.
Given the "variant" of the Diamondback I was wondering if that kinda stuff would have been announced ...

That would be interesting, especially given what is at www.elitedeadly.com.

That's very curious indeed. The trademark looks almost certain to be registered by Frontier (see here) but that makes little sense with it being Ian Bell's website. The text is interesting too:

"Absence from those we love is self from self - a deadly banishment." --- Two Gentlemen of Verona III.i

Unless.....you don't think.....nahh..........

Of course it does, but it didnt stop them putting PP out there.

They are in it for the money bigtime now, trying to get as many players on board as possible.

Some people are speculating that they will announce an 'Arena mode', seems credible after reading the Galnet post, plus that will appeal to the console masses.

This is very interesting. The article states that FD have the TM for this name yet Ian Bell is the name you see when you visit the site. Is this competition from Ian Bell or FD doing an aggressive move on name ownership ?

Ha! I was just poking around in whois data to figure out who was the registrant of elitedeadly.com (Ian Bell). How odd, if Frontier owns the trademark - which we don't know for sure. Curious.

what you say seems logic, they want as much people as possible into the game to raise some profit, but why ? for themselves (of course) and also for one of the major expansion, which by logic should be FPS mode

what do you think ?

Well i've sent Ian an email. He was kind enough to do an interview with me some years ago when I used to play a lot of Quakeworld on Barrysworld - not that he will remember Im sure :)

Have they given a date for the xbone release yet? Probably their "Big" announcement will be that. I get the feeling we might be feeling a little let down by their "Big" news but you never know...

indeed.

gta like is a lot (too much) to expect BUT....... there are some very good procedural city generators out there now so some detail is possible

further more wildlife is much easier to do procedurally (look at no mans sky) and on top of that iirc I read that Skyrim was done procedurally - albeit with a wide manual brush painted over the top afterwards.

As a DK2 user I'm not currently fussed about FPS or walking around (at the moment). It will just induce nausea when currently ED doesn't.

Bring on planetary landings.

I'm curious, planetary landings, walking around ships and all the fps stuff that would involve. Can all this be done with the current system specs for the game and also the online servers ? They seem to be struggling now with just the ships moving around the place to meet other cmdrs. I'm not being critical I'm just asking.
I Agree, if they added it onto the current engine things would get in a real mess... the game seems to get nearly fixed, to new update then broken again for a while....too many things tagged on with string and tape and not part of the core software....
