ED XBO Beta available to XBox One Preview today

Have we heard anything from the Steam folks about the fact that the XBox version has achievements?

They hadn't spotted when i looked, so made a post laughing about xboxers getting achievements before they do.

Anyone want an achievement for visiting hutton orbital?

Did it escape all your notice that one of the ships being flown is the condor? So that is going to be one of the new ships...

Perhaps its NPCs for when you are in playing CQC in solo mode. ;)

This is a classic case of FD being dammed if they do and dammed if they don't (again).
:
FD announces CQC launching on PC -> forum rages about hating PvP, not wanting PvP, game being dumbed down for PvP, HOTAS being unfair etc.
:

FD announces CQC launching on XBOne and coming soon (tm) to PC -> forum rages about not getting PvP first.
:
The only thing FD could have done is not create the CQC/PvP content in the first place. In fact the only thing FD can do to avoid criticism is nothing, then they'd get criticised for doing nothing......

The most intelligent post I have read all day.

But what about the future? what if , once the game has pushed the Xbox to the limit (not very hard) will it just stop , and no one gets to evolve? what if the Xbox gets tones of new stuff and PC gets nothing

just that, "what if" at the moment. We have to wait and see. If they impose something on us that is not optional and game changing i will assess at that point. There is room in Elite: Dangerous for MANY different styles of play. Wait till they start stuff like space station and colony management with manufacturing and bulk trading. actually i would love that.

CQC would also work on mobile platforms, which i would definitely pick up!

All this would be in the same post by some of our more talented forumites!

This is only partly true. Many people here are more than fair in their critique / praise of this game because we are old enough to know better! :p it's almost always the marketing / pitch that is off with Elite dangerous and gets people's blood boiling!
It's like a diamond being peddled by plastic merchants!

DB needs a new head of marketing IMO because whoever does it now (him ultimately I would wager) has gotten it wrong too many times to count!

... Thank you SlackR for backing the game to the tune of several hundred pounds... To show our appreciation we would like you to buy the game again on xbox so you can try the new features we have been creating. Here is a five dollar discount to really motivate you and feel special.

Honestly Frontier...

Edit: and I may be an idiot but That doesn't mean I am wrong :p

I am okay with it as a one time thing. But if it develops into a routine, then I'll have to find where I kept my picket!

It's a poxy close quarters combat arena! Who gives a ! I don't want it anywhere near the pc version, it can stay on console!

Oh I'm as ready to throw a torch and round up the management with my pitchfork when the time comes. But I don't think it's that time...

Seriously,

Of all the things that could be locked to the XBOX exclusive this the Arena Combat isn't something that will annoy me them having to themselves for a while.

But I'll definitely give it a shot when it comes to PC.

So I don't get all the anger!

That said, can we get back to giving me ship naming now please?

I fully agree, and yes please. I want to name my ship and I want the name to show up ingame for others to see. :)

Some kiddy game mode like CQC on XBOX first? I'm ok with that...

Pull that stunt with Planetary Landing and then you're going to really get some folks upset... me included.

Meh, doesn't affect my regular play...so, I'm good.

The response here is as expected and slightly warranted.

In the very short term we will all be playing CQC, if you choose to. I do wish the next update to ED wasn't yet again about multiplayer, though. Wings, Powerplay and CQC are all fairly cooperative or PvP focused. I'm really dying to see a major update the core bits of the game...NPC crews, customizable HUD (in-game), hire-able pilot NPCs, broader weapons selection, asteroid bases, shipyards...and so so much more.

...but it is getting closer.

That's the problem indeed. After 6 months, still nothing new to find in deep space, no new missions, no new stations, zero meaningful interaction with NPCs, no copilot, no use for the ORCA but RISK and now Elite Quake Arena.

If this gives more money to FD, great. If this means even more pewpew, and even less IQ in the game, not so great.

Good they are expanding, good there is a nice PvP focused update coming.

Laughable that there is a fleet of capital ships in the trailer at the point it suggests that Elite is so much more.

Also the provocation in Tweets from a certain Frontier member of staff is rather childish.

Well... I'm not a backer, and while I like PvP, it's not my whole life or anything like that. CQC looks cool but I don't care if I can play it later or not.

This being said, I can easily understand why so many people are angry. First off, CQC will be tested by absolute noobs. This means their feedback will be worthless, when it comes to balance or game experience. It will only be new user experience feedback, and while it's interesting, it's far from being the most important thing in a PvP module.

Additionally, the fact that console gamers have a reduced price point and an exclusive functionality (that may or may not come to PC later on) is kind of a move, no matter whether you like PvP or not. The backers made the whole company relevant. FD existed before, but that was pretty much it. They made Kinectimals and Lost Winds. Their last really noticeable game was Roller Coaster Tycoon, and I didn't say "good" (maybe their later games were good), I said "noticeable". Before E: D, not many people would have looked at FD twice.
Now, thanks to an extremely dedicated PC community, they have become considerably bigger and richer. Taking care of console players in priority could be taken as a "cool, thanks for the money, have a coupon you little suckers.". I know it's not the message they want to send, but I believe that's what the most angry people here heard from FD.

I don't know if FD received money from Microsoft for the exclusive but I sure hope they did, because this move definitely made them lose the trust of several of their most faithful players.

I'd be careful. The messaging on Twitter says "In 2015". I'm working in the game industry and I have for a while, and this kind of formulation is usually very carefully chosen. When no date is given, it usually means no date is known. It could be shortly after, as you mentioned, and I hope it will. It can also mean "any time before december 31st".

I hope it's a one-time deal to rope in Xbox users and that this isn't a new trend. If, say, Xbox users get planetary landings weeks in advance before PC players, I'll be pretty angry.

The problem is manyfold:

-Frontier already got our money.
-Frontier has repeatedly shown they are ok withusing bait and switch marketing tactics.

Plainly put, PC players got scammed into buying a game that isn't what they were sold... and we can't do anything about it.

The worst is, since the console market appears to be more important to them, that bug fixes are on the backburner for the PC version. I mean, even basic quests ("missions") and ingame reputations don't work. For all purposes and intent ED on PC still hasn't reached the quality of a standard release. It's pretty and not much else. :/

This had to happen, FD need the Xbox owners to fund the android version, and so the circle of life continues...
