PVP arena mode confirmed - xBox Trailer

really am not interested in pvp, normally full of squeekers anyway, but i dont think its fair giving it to an inferior games machine first, especially seeing as it was us, the consumer, that bought this game into existence with crowd funding in the first place. but hey ho, im not holding my breath for it......fly by Oz nothing to see here.

Not to mention that, even if you don't pvp, this affects you. They're taking away manpower to develop exclusively for the xbox. But don't worry, we'll get it on <undetermined date>

It's not as if Frontier is going to run off with the profits of the timed exclusive - they go back into the game. I can understand it to a degree, but if the end result is a better game, who really cares?

there is onething i wish to remind everyone of.. XB1 players cannot play online and interact with PC/MAC players in real time EVER!

they can only effect the galaxy in the goals PP and CG's Econemy etc they are efectively in their own instance group.

now while i understand thats MS redtape for ya i can also (though i dont have to agree with it) see why FD are trying to give something to the console players first.. BUT announcing it this way via a pitiful 10 sec head nod on the Xbox keynote and a very misleading trailer probaby hasnt done FD any favours with their core playerbase at the moment.

in short i can understand it even though i dont agree with it.

+1
I can't see XBone server reaching the 500.000 players in the next 4 months. I do hope so, though.
CQC might be the only place to hang out on Xbox for a while, like Lave was back in December.

I predict that's gonna turn out well.

in a way YES and NO

Yes as it ads in revenue for FD with new platform sales helping them stay in business... (mute argument there)

NO cos effectively what this will be on xb1 is an arena based focus primarily with the option to play the rest of the game wich lets face it most wiill jump on xblive and pvp with friends alot in the arena (initially i'll grant, their will be players exploring and enjoying the rest of the game).

But in a nutshell its being promoted as totally different style of game primarily as a space combat game with arenas for console. Yet a immersive spacee ecperience with optional pvp consentual arenas on its main platforms.. either way your audioence is seperated and FD have had to alas accomodate. i blame Microsoft for this not FD though i am still of the mindset that FD should have stuck to their guns and kept the game exactly on par with the PC/Mac versions.

the real sad part is MS themselves announced cross platform play between xbox and windows10 throughout their keynote yet this game still falls under their old meathod of seperation between other versions. thats the nugget of info that is bugging me

A Space Sim is a Space Sim no matter the Plattform, what Plattform a game runs on does not mean anything for the Genre or the Game itself. Its just a freakin Plattform the Game runs on.

I don't understand People, all that silly Console war and PC Master Race crap is so stupid. People who play on Consoles are Gameres just like you and me and Consoles are just as good to play Games on as the PC is, there is no superiority for any side.

Yes there is. Hardware, for a starter. I'm personaly getting more and more annoyed (to say the very least) to see that games I'd like to enjoy with a good PC setup won't really shine as they could since they are also built for what are no more than cash registers, both in terms of purpose and capacities.

Also, to the entitled backers, instead of crapping on the game because it isn't "MY PERFECT ELITE" should be more positive about FD Expanding the game. Selling more Xbone Copies will definatelly help our PC Version.

Has anyone else guessed why the xbox players will get the arena mode first....

Its simple... can you imagine the carnage when a xbox harmless player whos just managed to fly out of his first station tries taking on the likes of an Asp like me, beams 'til his shields
go, then a couple of rounds from the cannons ... repeat *10000...
gawds knows when mr xbox'er meets an anaconda..... <bump> 'conda pilot "what was that bump?.. oh just a hit a small fly" :D

In short, I suspect the thinking at FD is "lets give them a chance to get some combat practise in before the raverning hordes of veteran E : D players get at them"

You are aware that none of us play on a server right?

All the FDev servers do is match make and send numeric data concerning markets, etc. to our Peer to Peer client?

This is basically a game that match makes various players to play between their own client...so it would be 'possible' for everyone to play together. The Xbone players will be playing right next to the Open players who are also playing right next to the Solo players...except they won't be matched to each other in a given instance.

The reason this game has to keep the Xbone players playing separately is because they will constantly have to fork and reduce the clients between everyone and XBone because of Microsoft's Quality Control requirements.

To reiterate, this game runs on peer to peer technology...no player is playing on a server. Servers are only used for matchmaking and pure data exchange..prices, etc.

This is a lost fight, the best games are about gameplay and not graphics.

Exactly whats been needed from day one ... now let us see how FD create a silly frame work to take the fun out of it.

Maybe make it a console exclusive and develop special controller controls. . .

I see controller sales increasing exponentially after the release of Elite.

So...

I'm going to preface this by saying that I have no issues with this CQC thing in principle. Heck, it looks like it could be fun if the trailer footage is at all like the game play will be when it drops for PC.

However, my big question is this: is that it?

Is the XBone release and CQC the extent of the E3 announcements for ED?

If so I can't help but feel... disappointed. This doesn't feel like the 'big news' the newsletter and Dev updates hinted at.

No, more to come apparently ..

That's never been confirmed. M$ have been championing crossplay with win 10. I'm personally hoping for crossplay as it'll bring more players in to the game rather than being fenced off in to their own little sub groups.

soory to dissapoint but that was confirmed (though that may change over time, we are yet to know, would be nice though i agree)

I actually think the trailer is pretty cool, I was taken by that new looking station right away and an arena mode will certainly bring in console oriented players and $. It seems like sound business, even if it'll be perceived by many as a diversion from the real meat of the game.
