PVP arena mode confirmed - xBox Trailer

semantics.. its a matter of common practice with xbox live for years (always has been) i agree their newer biggest titles on XB1 are finally getting some cross platform treatment.. they classed ED as an independent game and threw it in their new preview window program plus did you notice NONE of their independent titles are getting that cross platform treatment. (not yet at least) only their 1st party aquisitions

The crossplay problems have always been to do with fps tbh, the last trial with xbox pros vs pc pros in titanfall ended up with the xbox players quitting in the last match :p

ED is a very different and very playable on controller so I still hold out hope for crossplay.

cant believe nobody has made an Erectile Dysfunction quip yet lol

Fear not, bindun:

If you're that way inclined, "CQC" should be the least of your concerns- apparently, "ED" also has a very unfortunate meaning as a medical complaint too, you know. That said, the language filter won't let me post the obvious phonetic pronunciation of "CQC", which refers to a related body part :D

(It's always a little odd quoting yourself, though not as lame as namechecking yourself in a thread title :D)

So, working on a "pvp arena" while mission design is still far behind 10-20 years old scifi games and powerplay feels like a collection of placeholder tasks? ok...

Anyone wonder why powerplay seems slapped together and the 1.3 bugs aren't being fixed? Well, we now have content exclusively for Xbox, I wonder how we ended up with this arena mode developed? Could they have *gasp* taken away developers from Powerplay while keeping the lessened amount on the same time table?

announcing it this way via a pitiful 10 sec head nod on the Xbox keynote and a very misleading trailer probaby hasnt done FD any favours with their core playerbase at the moment.

FD don't seem to give a monkeys about the core playerbase. Remember all those internet provider and banking adverts with discounts and special offers 'For new customers only', that is exactly the path FD are treading.

Once Xbone is settled in they'll turn their attention to PS4 and it'll be rinse-repeat.

Aren't being fixed?

They are bing fixed, my guess is that we didn't have a patch today because of E3.

If the mission bugs and Mostly Harmless enemies issues along with the real gamebreakers were being fixed anywhere nearly as quickly as occasional high profit smuggling runs due to combined modifiers were nerfed, we'd not have a problem.

TL;DR: Meh.

---------

I'm OK with FD making money off of Elite. Game lives longer, more updates (fixes!) for me - eventually. PvP peeps can duke it out between each other - cool.

He's glad to announce that if you already have a copy you can get an xbone copy at a 5$ discount! What a deal!

Seriously tho... It's becoming more and more apparent that this game is not going in the direction I was hoping. I certainly did get my 60$ worth though so it was a good ride.

It looks fantastic. In a rift gunning it through these stations and hopefully some tunneled out asteroids will give me the diamond cutter my wife wishes I had.. ;)

Speed and Scale. What the CQC can bring to Elite Dangerous. Swooosh.

One thing struck me immediately when watching the new CQC trailer.

Flying in close quarters around stations and other large scale structure immediately gives us a sense of speed racing above, below and inside structures. This was reminiscent of the Deathstar trenchrun of the original Star Wars movie.

Speed in space is hard to convey in the empty black. Sometimes in Elite, space combat can even seem static as a python is rotating infront of you, even though both of you are moving at high velocities.:D

Flying close to large scale structure solves this problem immediately.

The same applies to sense of scale.

By putting our spaceships next to other structures like this in combat both of these senses of scale and speed is added.

Now, we have had a little of this with the battles around capital ships, but hopefully CQC can help bring this also to the wider game more.

Give us battles around large space stations, pirate bases etc.

And, in the end of course close to planetary surfaces...

Hunting federation ships in the Grand Canyon anyone?

Cheers.

Looks amazing. Who cares if Xbox gets it first. I'm more hyped for this then I was for Powerplay. Can't wait for more details! Like will there still be insurance to pay on death, will there be a fee to join, what kind of rank and reward system (if any) will there be etc. This will definitely increase my playtime in ED.

Trouble with OP is that there is nothing to disagree with :)

It was my first thought when I saw the trailer too. My only hope (as a solo player with crappy internet) is that I can fight NPCs around these structures.

On the topic of structures, more diverse stations is another good aspect of CQC - that immediately jumped out at me when watching the trailer.

I think you are right. And about your suggestions, I'm pretty sure that this is exactly what they will bring. Except for grand canyon...

"Wow, that game looks cool, I want to play that."

Yes, a lot of people had that reaction to the launch trailer, too:

Sadly, the game bore no resemblance to the dynamic trailer lavishly cut with pre-rendered footage. Sorry, but shame on you if you fall for the same bait and switch a second time.
