ED XBO Beta available to XBox One Preview today

Why are people whining about having to buy an XB version? I'm struggling to think of any game that lets you have a game you bought for one system for free on another system. It's always been this way. I had to buy Head Over Heels for the Amiga despite having a Speccy copy. I've got a PC MMINECRAFT and had to pay for an XBox MINECRAFT.
.
I've got a car on my drive, but for some reason that doesn't entitle me to drive any car I like.
.
Don't even get me started on having to pay for a hotel room which is smaller than my house and doesn't even have a kitchen!
.
Wait I thought of one game! If you bought Elite Dangerous as a backer you get the Mac and PC versions for the price of the PC version!

Beta backers do not give a whit about providing feedback. They don't care about testing. It's just an advance ticket to the new stuff for them, and a chance to wave that ticket in front of everyone else.

Ummm. no. a) What's the point of an 'advanced ticket' if any progress using that ticket is wiped? b) Do you really think one week of testing is enough to find all bugs in complex software? c) AFAICS the only point of the betas is to test things as a soft launch, and iron out the major problems. Nothing more.

I don't really mind that Xbone is getting ED to play, but I don't think it's right to give the console generation an arena mode as one of the first things you could do, especially if the universe is going to be merged with them at a later date. We get more than enough complaints about people being destroyed for no reason now, let alone teaching all the console kids to destroy ships from their first few moments in game.
They may start off playing in the arena, but it's going to be a very short time before a good number of them decide to head out and just start blowing stuff up.

Xbone should have tested PP in a controlled environment rather than having an arena.

Welcome to the players of the XB1

Even if there are points of tension and disagreement for some commander PC / MAC, we can to wish welcome to new commanders of the XB1. They join the great family of the Elite

I demand that Frontier give me an XBox One so that I can play this new content. I gave them forty pounds, goddammit, and I've only had a couple of hundred hours of game time out of it. Who do they think they are?

Dude, chill. If anyone should get early access it's me, because I'm better looking. Frankly, I'm the most handsome bounty hunter in the galaxy, and FD are doing themselves a disservice by not giving me access. Access to everything, before everyone else. Because. Handsome.

It says it was relised to day on xbone but I cant find it to play or even look at... how do you get early access on the xbox?

eddit... found it after a few re trys...

I beg to differ.

From the PowerPlay Beta Discussion (archived):

There, I Fixed It: 5 Steps to Improve Powerplay (13 pages, a must-read)

Diamondback Explorer Feedback (5 pages)

Reputation Decay (24 pages)

Opinions of PowerPlay so far? (16 pages)

Lasers "toned down" to uselessness in latest patch of 1.3 Beta (22 pages... and actually about NPC AI advancements, lol)

Black market on system map (14 pages)

The Powers, the Law and You! Should system police act as protected political assassins? Discuss... (3 pages)

"High intensity" resource extraction site ? (bugged?) (5 pages)

Cargo Canister limit in beta too low, large scale piracy impossible (3 pages)

There are TWENTY-FOUR PAGES of feedback in that subforum.

...and there are TWENTY-SIX PAGES of threads in the 1.3 PowerPlay Beta Bug Reports forum.

"Beta backers do not give a whit about providing feedback"?

Wrong.

"They don't care about testing"?

Wrong.

Nothing wrong with with the XBOX Beta or CQC at all, but...

But I do think it is not a case of what you do, but the way you do it. Like offline mode, I completely understand why you did it, I just don't agree with the way you did it. More honesty sooner, would have been a good start on that one.

And for a lot of people, they feel the core of game is not in place yet. Of course, I know little of the development process, but with the empty room approach you would have thought the basic core of the game would come first. I think some sneak previews of what you are planning would be a great help, so we can see how the jigsaw pieces are being fitted together. As such, being patient is a lot easier when you have some to discuss and look forward too and an idea of what is happening. And being a little more open would also help in this area.

All the people I have spoken to don't really have a problem with the X-Box beta and CQC, we see it as much need income to further develop the game, especially in the type of game we all wanted it to be.... whilst looking like fun too. Maybe you are going to release some information for the PC players over the course of the week, but then I am not to fused about that. For me, I want to hear about the core of the game developement.

The best thing about PP being released IMO, was rank level missions, that was such a fantastic subtle change that made a huge difference to the game. Missions become more meaningful to you personally, I am ranked dangerous in combat, I can do x, y and z. Look at that, elite in trading and 1,000,000 cred's here I come. What a brilliant, brilliant addition... We just need more that and not whole sale changes, but things like, multi-point missions that may take days to do, passenger ferrying missions (What was the point of releasing the Orca now?), proper exploring, explorer missions, group missions, group multi-point missions and it is stuff like this that is the core of game and needs updating... And you know what, I can wait for that even if it means waiting an extra few months for walking around or planetary landing, so as long as the core is there to keep us busy.

But it would also help if you was a little more open about what you planning and tease our little sadistic souls, like the naughty people you are.

And if you can't do something, it's okay, we will understand, just be honest with us.

Meh, doesn't affect my regular play...so, I'm good.

The response here is as expected and slightly warranted.

In the very short term we will all be playing CQC, if you choose to. I do wish the next update to ED wasn't yet again about multiplayer, though. Wings, Powerplay and CQC are all fairly cooperative or PvP focused. I'm really dying to see a major update the core bits of the game...NPC crews, customizable HUD (in-game), hire-able pilot NPCs, broader weapons selection, asteroid bases, shipyards...and so so much more.
I completely agree with you. I enjoy PVP/Co-op a lot, but it is only because I've exhausted the number of things to do alone. The game's background simulation and overall NPC mechanics are still very much barebones and bland, IMO.

Do I care that Xbone can play ED? Nope
Do I care that Xbone are beta testing the combat sim? Nope
Do I think that FD are gonna have the resources to develop for the 2 platforms at the same time, given past performance? Nope

I have to admit I'm kind of guilty of that. At first, I was beta testing, but all my tickets just got a reply saying "this is how it's supposed to be", and I stopped sending in tickets. Now I don't actually beta test, but use it to have a look at new ships I haven't got to yet in the main game. If Frontier would be willing to, I would happily give up my beta testing status so someone else who will beta test, can have it (but how do you know they will actually beta test?)

All new content after the Xbox release will require console parity.

Did you see what console parity did to Doom 4 ("Fast gameplay")?

I downloaded the free trial what a joke you can only do the training missions you cant actually play the game and try it out. Unless that was a bug and you can.

I cant play the game with just a controller like the xbox controller. I need my joystick and keyboard.

And of course loadtime sucks compared to my computer
